a/n: okay I'm sorry I didn't post for like two months, ngl I simply forgot that this blog existed😭

Percy
he's always barefoot during spring and summer
you'll never catch him with shoes on because he things that they are "blocking the fresh air his toes need"
at least they never get that dirty because he can't survive five minutes without jumping in the sea
when he was younger sally had to force him wear shoes to school, to the parkt et cetera and he was always so angry at her after that because he hated it with all his passion
that anger quickly faded after she baked some blue cookies
after growing up he learned that he should wear shoes to school et cetera but the second he is at camp he gets rid of them
after you dressed it he delegated that he always washed them and kept them clean so there was no wrong doing it and that it's actually healthy for your feet
Annabeth
listen, I love annabeth
but she's always mansplaining
Like u could be talking about ur close family that she only met once and she‘d say something like „actually, i had the impression that…“
It’s so annoying
she doesn't even mean it mean or something
but it also could be just a conversasiation that she isn't even involved in and she'll just randomly pop up and mansplain the topic
jason
That boy doesn’t have any basic knowledge
Like he is at camp jupiter since he’s three or something
I‘m not sure if they even knew what they where teaching him
Like that boy doesn’t know algebra
You could be talking about something in history and how deeply that event infected the way society lives now and he‘d be like „what do you mean?“
And he’s serious
Everytime Percy and Leo make fun of him for not knowing something he‘ll run to you and beg you to explain it to him
Most of the time you make a bit fun of him too because a 17 year old boy who doesn’t know what the french Revolution was is kinda funny
He knows that you‘re just joking though
hazel
I love her but she's like one of the extra careful mom's whose world break when their child hears a swear word
every time you are someone near both of ou swears she has this weird shocked and impressed look and looks around the room
you had to stop swearing around her bc she always starts blushing and looks at you in awe
they don't even have to be the "bad" swear words, it could be something like shit and she'd still be shocked
you had to learn to find alternatives like fudge or fox
she made you browse for the alternatives to swear words for around two hours at midnight and made you subscribe to the mommy blogs incase they had "more cool little alternatives"
piper
she's a die hard romance book hater
she always gives you the weird look when you read one or even only look at one at the bookstore
like she doesn't even have a plausible reason besides that they "always have the same ending and are very predictable"
I mean she's right but still
when she was 14 she had an instagram where she just talked shit about romance books because she was bored
it's not even that she doesn't like reading or books that much, she just doesn't like them because they (as already said) have the same ending and because she gor sick of the perfect romantic ending after drew talked night in and out about it
you once convinced her to read your favorite romance book and she tried her best to be nice
she actually didn't find it that bad and liked the ending but she would never admit that to you
leo
that boy either doesn't shower for one week or takes two hour showers
it's a bit better in the summer but especially in winter he never shower because he "would just get dirty later again"
you have to force him too properly shower because he would just forget it again
and when he actually showers for once he takes two hour showers
but especially in summer he's just gonna swim in the lake and call it a day because he basically "got clean already"
frank
I love frank sm but he would 7 in 1 shampoo
he doesn't get why it's bad and insists that it makes his hair shinier
you try to explain it to him once but he just doesn't understand 😪
he also tries to convince you all the time that it's so much better than owning body wach, shampoo and conditioner
nico
is a pop music hater
he always has this annoyed look on his face when you play pop music
he always makes this disappointed dad sigh and says "again?"
nico sounds so disappointed
he secretly loves it about you tho
reyna
she's like a confused mom and never gets jokes
"what do you mean by that, y/n? I never do that"
you try to explain the joke to her but give up after 10 minutes
she's grumpy for the rest of the day because you wouldn't finish explaining it to her
eventually she gives her pride up and asks you again
and after another ten stressful minutes she finally gets it
she kept arguing that what you said doesn't make sense

Hello! just wanted to say that i really don’t mean to make you uncomfortable at all with this ask since i know you’re sex repulsed ace but i swear i don’t mean it in that way. as in in the sex way. it’s more as in the overcoming religious trauma and being proud of ones sexuality way!
picture this : nico di angelo. he’s at the Grammys. he’s just released guilty as sin? and everyone’s going absolutely bonkers bannanas. he’s walking the little carpet (added detail he is wearing the dress taylor wore at the show announcing ttpd). he sees a reporter and smiles at them and there recording and being like “omg nico is love your new song aaaa!” and nico just deadpan stares at them as he slowly walks by and lifts up the slit in his dress just a tiny bit and boom tattoo that says mine. ON HIS UPPER THIGH?!? 😨😨😨😨 he sets his dress back down winks and walks away like nothing ever happened. the reporter ( a gen z) puts it on tiktok with the caption “NICO WTF?!” CROWD GOES WILLLDDDD PEOPLE ARE GOING INSANE NICO THAT NICO HAS A TATTOO AND ITS ESPECIALLY MINE ON HIS UPPER THIGH LIKE IN THE SONG WHEN DID HE GET THIS WHAT THE FUCK?!?!? and everyone assumes it’s just so sexual when in reality it’s sexual in the way that the guilty as sin bridge is sexual. yes it’s based around sexuality but more the acceptance that he is allowed to feel those feelings towards someone especially another man. it’s a celebration of how far he’s come from that little scared christian boy who thought he was dirty and wrong to now and something that he can look down at and be happy from how far he’s come. (also nico had to train will for a few days so that his barely legible doctors handwriting at least looked nice enough to be readable) (also will made the haha so many couples break up after they get tattoos comment when nico was getting it and he was like “will if you ever even try to leave me the entire universe will be destroyed and that includes you” and he’s like “well i wouldn’t leave you anyways but remind me from time to time it’s funny.” “yeppers peppers” (also hc that nico says incredibly silly phrases cause he picked some of them up from will but some of them are his)
anyways sorry about this very specific scenario! you do not have to respond to this if you don’t want to since there isn’t much to say and i know you must be busy with a ton of asks haha. just wanted to share one of the scenes i imagine happening in tyt in the FARRR future! Might low key write a fic about it if i ever figure out how to write if that would be okay with you!
have a good day! :)
Tumblr media
KSDJFSD NO BC ppl's reactions to his tattoos (though, tbf, they're mostly grief-related tattoos) has been something i've been thinking about for agesss and will probably include at some point.
so many little details in this that i LOVEEJSDF nico training will's doctor handwriting😭😭 i actually plan to add a tattoo at some point of will + all of the rest of nico's found family drawing stars and then having like a collection of them on his chest, which i will definitely be including at some point, and i can just imagine nico trying to teach will how to draw a star (he draws them like taylor swift's "stars, do u like dem" drawing)
but on to the main point: i absolutely love this idea! though i'm not planning on guilty as sin actually being a song that nico releases (unfortunately ://) he will 100% be making moves with his music that displays his growth as a person and his increased comfort with himself in all forms!!
the silly phrases hc is wonderful. CANON NOW. i also especially like nico also looking up like old-timey phrases and then just using them for no reason other than to confuse his friends
AND THE CIWYW NECKLACE!!!! will already has nico's ring on his necklace, but i think nico would 100% get either a necklace with a sun on it to represent will (maybe personalized to have the same design that he has as his tattoo) or his initials, or both. the ciwyw necklace will always be peak romance though <33
i would 100% support writing the fic!! go for it!! even if it may not be compliant with the.. idk if it's called the canon of this fic, but you get what i mean, i'd just love any kind of work related to the au, so definitely let me know if you ever end up writing it!!! thank you for this!

🐍 same, there were many things i did not enjoy about HoO but leo is one of the highlights i will always treasure from it. in fact I made my OC just so I could make them be friends with him bc it's like an old childhood dream of mine 😭 it's several years late but i will do it anyway. have u ever made any pjo ocs?
I read your post and i agree with you so much!! EN did jamil so dirty and just the few changes they made to his lines flipped the entire dynamic between him and kalim and basically completely erased how tragic and difficult their situation is, and portrayed jamil as basically just someone throwing a fit over something easily changeable when it isn't. I play on JP so I was so surprised to see the changes EN made, it sucked seeing so many ppl hate my fav
oh nooo yeah if both riddle and jamil are in the athena cabin i have no clue who'd become the head counselor... this is so hard, if only we could have more than one :(. Kalim'd def be in a different cabin at least, but just him being around camp would make it so much harder for jamil to be himself, it hurts my heart. there are so many ways you can write this and it all has so much angst potential. on the other hand you're so right abt the missed leo nico friendship bc i always intuitively felt they could've be good friends without knowing why, but your analysis puts everything into words and makes me even sadder we had such a missed opportunity... like cmon rick....
idia labwear groovy but nico is actually so funny - nico ominously approaching cats with his hands out like the grabbing emoji when nobody is looking and completely unaware how scared the cats feel, meanwhile all he wants is to spend some time with kitty before the chain sneezing sets in
I love your ideas abt the outfits I think they fit super well!! if i get around to doodling the characters in a twst au i'd like to reference your ideas if that's okay with you! They'd both probably attempt to wear the uniforms as a full set in the beginning then decide it's way too much of a hassle/feels too stiff (totally not an excuse to want to draw them in the full outfit), then begin modifying things so it felt more like themselves, though at least I think they both would like the ignihyde uniforms better than the other dorms, igni's seems more casual and practical than the other ones imo. for some reason i feel like the savanaclaw colours would look good on leo, i just picture yellow being a nice colour on him - but leo in savanaclaw would just be like him stuck with a ton of jocks feeling confused why he's even there lool
also imagine leo meeting ortho, he'd be so fascinated that something like ortho was possible and be inspired to make a robot of his own (twst festus origin story?) idk if there's a robotics club but i could see that being leo's club of choice, nico maybe board games... which means he'd meet idia and azul omg, what do you think?
sorry it took me a bit a longer to answer this time. i haven't!! i don't make OCs super often in general, i don't even really have one for twst haha, but i love seeing all the creativity other people put into their OCs.
yeah exactly!! i do keep up with the JP main story updates and have read most of the JP events through fan translations, but i started by playing on EN. and i feel really lucky that i recognized the words for master and servant and could tell they were mistranslating some things, because i can imagine that otherwise i would've come out of it hating jamil for "betraying" kalim too. instead i loved him and was a little annoyed with kalim until book 5 showed more of his growth. i don't ship jamil and kalim but i do love both of them and it's sad that the complexity of their dynamic got watered down so much... i will note, though, that the app is rated E10+ on the google play store and 4+ on the iOS app store, so my guess is that higher-ups at disney thought the actual story wasn't kid-friendly enough.
something else to keep in mind with athena kids that i actually sort of forgot about until recently, is that they're all claimed from birth and therefore are pursued by monsters from birth :( and then also the fact that athena is a virgin goddess who just sort of gives babies to people who might not have been prepared to have one... i bet that would make things so much rougher for riddle and jamil. some other ideas i had are that if jamil's parent was a minor god, it could be nemesis (goddess of revenge) or terpsichore (muse of dance). and for kalim, if his parent was an olympian it would be either dionysus or apollo and if it was a minor god it'd be tyche (goddess of luck and fortune). like you said, there's so many different ways i could see their story going in an AU like this and they'd all be so angsty.
if you wanna see more analysis on how nico and leo fit together there's some stuff i've reblogged from others in my valdangelo tag! not all of it is necessarily romantic, i just basically use that for anything about the two of them--and a lot of the reasons why people like the ship are reasons why they'd work platonically as well. but yeah one of my biggest criticisms of HoO is how even though i like all the new characters for the most part, i feel like their relationships to each other were largely defined by romance (and i don't just mean the actual couples, but also the frank-hazel-leo love triangle for example) and a lot of potential was missed because of that!
oh yeah go for it!! feel free to use pretty much any of these ideas we've been brainstorming as basis for your own headcanons and stuff, i don't mind at all. and like i've been saying, if you did draw anything for this AU i'd love to see it. i can definitely see that about leo and nico both trying on the full uniform and then quickly deciding not to bother with it anymore lol. i imagined them both not wearing the tie because i just think nico wouldn't really want to and that leo might not even know how to tie one AFSKJGHDF. do you think leo would add any other accessories or personalization to his school uniform? also, i was thinking, i totally agree that they'd both like the ignihyde uniform, especially nico because it resembles the bulky jackets he normally likes to wear! but i wonder what nico would wear for a dorm uniform if he transferred to ramshackle... according to one of silver's voice lines at least, they canonically don't have one, so maybe he'd just wear, like, a my chemical romance shirt and call that a uniform lol. or keep his ignihyde uniform and confuse everyone.
omg, i love the thought of leo meeting ortho and being inspired to make festus because of him. he'd definitely be so fascinated by everything ortho could do. as for the clubs, i saved this excellent post about NRC's clubs for reference a while back, and since no other existing clubs were mentioned in either of the camp vargas events, i assume that that's all of them. but afaik there's nothing that says leo couldn't start a robotics club, and i'm sure there'd be people willing to join! out of the existing clubs i can totally see nico being in the board game club, i think that'd be a lot of fun for him.

Hi! Love your writing my dear ❤️ I was wondering if I can request head cannons with Marco, thatch, crocodile and Rayleigh with fem readers (separate) . They are having sexy time and then there crew mates walk in during the sexy time and fem reader is in a certain positions (any positions ) reaction from both parties.. thank you so much ! ☺️
Hey Anon! Thank you for requesting! This was a very interesting request and I enjoyed writing for them. I'm also a huge Rayleigh fan so glad to get a request for him this time!! I have no idea what Thatch was like since I never really cared for him (sorry) so I hope it somewhat fits what I wrote.
Warning: 18+, nsfw
Characters: Marco, Thatch, Sir Crocodile, Rayleigh
Marco
Marco usually has not that much free time to fool around with you but when he does it’s always quick but intense. He loves to make love to you even when it’s just a quicky and he is usually pretty careful as to not get caught. But even he can be forgetful, especially when your legs are wrapped around his waist so perfectly, giving him the perfect angle to drive his dick into you.
Neither of you hears how the door to the small room opens, too occupied with panting and quiet moaning. Your forehead rests against his strong shoulder and his hands are gripping your thighs tightly, pushing his member inside of you over and over again, the dirty sound of skin on skin filling the room.
It takes you two to realize your new audience simply because he is just standing there in shock, not knowing what to do. Ace always has something to say – just not right now. It doesn’t happen often that he catches the two of you in a compromising position; to be exact, it’s the first time!
But as much as he is in shock, you are terrified. I mean, it’s a pretty intimate position and most people like to keep this part of their life private. Marco is also shocked but it doesn’t take long for him to get his composure back. Good thing is, he is covering your body with his, so Ace doesn’t really see your naked form and he doesn’t really care that Ace sees him naked.
“When you’re done staring would you please leave yoi?” he’d ask, voice even and with no embarrassment. Is it awkward to face Ace after this again? Yes. Does Marco really care about it? Probably not and neither should you. Ace, however, will probably avoid the two of your for the next couple of days but it’ll go away.
Thatch
He’s a very open man when it comes to most aspects of his life and if both you and him would be okay with it he would have no problem someone watching (no sharing though!!). He likes to show you off to his crew mates, not in a tasteless way like “oh, look at how hot my partner is!” but rather in s more subtle way like moving his hands along your curves while he is talking to someone, diverting their attention to your body (you probably wouldn’t even notice he dies this on purpose sometimes).
I can also see him being the kind of lover to give oral rather than receive it. So, when the two of you are alone in a room, he probably coaxes you into allowing him to give you head, telling you that he wants to spoil you for no reason. In reality, it’s all just self-serving since he loves your taste and especially the sounds you make while he tongue-fucks you.
He likes to tease you a little while giving head and one of the things he does is have you stand on one leg, the other one is draped over his shoulder and you have to keep balance and not collapse onto the ground. He just loves to see your thigh quiver right next to his face.
This is also the position you two get caught in; him on his knees in front of you, his tongue eagerly fucking your core, one of your hands tangled in his locks and your mouth biting down on your other one to muffle your moans. So, given your position, you’re the one to see the intruder first and you’re horrified, to say the least. A loud squeak that sound unnatural coming from you in this position has Thatch alarmed and one quick look over his shoulder has him cover your body immediately.
“Don’t you ever knock before entering a room, Marco?” he asks, a small scowl on his face. Marco is not as shocked as Ace in this situation and he finds his composure rather quickly. “Sorry. Didn’t know this room was already occupied yoi.” He says with a grin before he leaves the room, not looking at you to save you from more embarrassment.
“Did it just turn you on when he saw us like this?” he asks, of course noticed you clenching around his tongue. This doesn’t deserve an answer and you push him down between your legs again, wanting him to finish what he’s started. You wouldn’t tell him weather you liked it or not – at least not yet.
Sir Crocodile
It would be very difficult to actually catch the two of you in a compromising position. Sir Crocodile is a man who likes to keep most of his live to himself, even Nico Robin doesn’t know half of it! So, naturally, he also only has sexy times with you in his private chambers. But there are times which are rare and far in between, where he lets you seduce him in a more ‘public’ area (still inside his private domain!).
In the contrary to Thatch, he likes to receive oral rather than give it and every time you seduce him in starts with you between his legs while he sits in a chair, smoking a cigar. He makes sure not to drop any of the ashes onto your head though. It’s dirty and nothing else. Plus, he doesn’t want you complain to him about it.
He loves hearing the lewd slurping sounds you make when you take him between your lips, the small choking sounds when you try and take him in even deeper and your small, muffled moans while you do. He can’t help but get turned on by it even more.
He probably knows that someone is approaching the door way before it actually opens – and he does nothing to stop you. Don’t get me wrong, he doesn’t like being walked in while you deep throat him but you just had to seduce him so you had to live with the consequences.
“Nico Robin. Can’t you see that I’m busy?” he asks in his usual dragged tone, a small simile on his lips. When you hear her name you instinctively try to get off of him but the hook on the back if your head doesn’t let you. He is not too keen on Nico Robin seeing his dick so naturally, he has you cover it with your mouth. You feel the heat come up in your face and you want nothing more than to just disappear but you have to sit through.
“Oh my, you should’ve told me that in advance. Now I’ve caught you two in a quite compromising position. I apologize.” You hear her say but you know she doesn’t feel one bit remorseful and neither does Crocodile. They have just a way higher tolerance for embarrassment than you do. When the door clicks, indicating she’s left the room, the man lets you come up again, letting you take in a deep breath. “Next time, maybe you should think twice about wanting to fuck you anywhere else but the bedroom.”
Silvers Rayleigh
Rayleigh is an open man and he rarely, if never, feels shame when it comes to his personal life. He doesn’t go around telling everyone about him and his sex life but if someone (he knows) asks or more likely wants to have some tips or advise he is glad to give it to them. When it comes to details about his sex life he is like a book with seven seals. He can talk about his experience in general but not what he does with you in the bedroom. It’s just common decency.
He loves to flirt with you on deck in front of the crew and he also kisses you from time to time but anything more intimate is reserved for the bedroom (or anywhere else, really). He’s quite some experience, even during his younger days. He doesn’t sleep around a lot but if he wanted someone, he usually got them. Because of this, he got to explore some kinks and his most favorite is you in blindfolds. It’s nothing special but it really does it for him.
He also likes the reverse cowgirl when you’re wearing the blindfolds. Given, he doesn’t see you wearing them but the knowledge that you’re completely relying on him turns him on. When he can hold your hips while you move on top of him, your ass always in sight; that’s just the best.
Just like Crocodile, he knows when someone is approaching the room but in this particular moment he wasn’t fast enough to bring you underneath him to cover you with his body and Roger just marches in, wanting to tell Rayleigh something. When he sees you two in this position, he’s already out of the room, not uttering a single word and Rayleigh has never been so glad that you were wearing blindfolds.
You’re confused as to why he stopped thrusting up into you. “Why did you stop?” you pant and he just chuckles a little. “No reason. Just appreciating the view.” He lies, not wanting to bother you with the thought of your captain not only seeing you naked but also you fucking yourself on Rayleigh’s dick. He knows Roger will never mention it and like hell he would bring it up. It will cause nothing but trouble

you have any nico headcanons where he’s ftm trans but then realizes he’s also nonbinary (he/they/she)? just struggling with gender identity lately ig.
Alright, anon, I hope these help you some, my gender has been rather ~~~ lately, if that makes any sense... I would also like to remind everyone to bind safely and if you need resources on how to safely bind without a binder feel free to reach out to me:
Nico always just knew he was a boy, dresses were a no-go, couldn't stand to wear anything that wasn't undeniably boys clothes
In the beginning Maria thought maybe it was just a texture problem, but when Nico was three she came home to see him cutting all of his hair off she knew it was deeper
This is why they ended up moving to America eventually, Maria decided that if they started over then Nico would be able to be himself
Bianca named him on the way over, she liked the name because they were "winning" by leaving Italy
Nothing really signifigant happens in regards to Nico and his gender through this point, he is able to play freely with other boys, and he goes to school with them and such
The same in the Lotus Hotel, nothing signifigant
When he and Bianca go to Westover Nico is kind of scared the whole time, because he is worried about being "caught", changing for afterschool soccer games and having communal shower spaces at the school is difficult for him to feel comfortable
He usually tries to shower late at night or early in the morning when nobody is around, and that works out okay for him
His chest starts developing around this point and he freaks out, he has no clue how to hide it or how to deal with the new stress
He ends up trying to find Bianca one day, and they do all sorts of crazy stuff to see if they can help, eventually they figure out how to use a piece of cloth they sew together
When Nico ends up at camp alone without Bianca, there's the problem once again of communal showers and they're rarely ever empty
This is how he befriends the Stolls
At some point the pair of them notice Nico is weirdly panicky about the bathrooms so they go stand outside and keep people out when Nico's in there... It's honestly how they perfect their pranking techniques
When Nico runs away from camp upset, just the day before his binder had quit fitting and he had been upset by that because he had to make a binder again
Although his sister dying pushed all other thoughts out of his head, the emotions from previous events were still leftover
This is why he buys his jacket TM, because the layers help hide his chest more and the weight is comfortable
At some point during the Labrynth he ends up binding with ace bandages (AN: Don't do this)
He also starts his period at some time around this point and kind of freaks out "oh no" and it's not entirely that his period bothers him, but more so that he just doesn't know how he's supposed to hide it
He also realizes at some point around here that he likes Percy, which makes him feel odd and more freaked out
He's struggling because "boys are supposed to like girls" and also he's struggling because if most boys oon't have periods and he does... why doesn't his bother him?
Despite Nico himself being trans, he doesn't have the vocabulary to describe anything he's going through, and he doesn't know there's other trans people, or even queer people of any sort
So he sort of begins to question "am I really a boy?" but there's so much going on in the world and he's got so much to do, so he can't really devote much time to thinking about it
Everything continues about canonically until he's in the jar after Tartarus
During a fight with a monster or something he was knocked over, and combine this with the fact that Nico was binding with ace bandages, he definitly breaks a rib
Which makes breathing with little air a lot harder
Eventually he's saved and through ambrosia and nectar Nico manages to heal his ribs a little
He isn't able to bind that whole time though, so he does his best to keep away from The Seven
After Cupid outs him to Jason, Jason asks a few days later if he wants to talk about it, at first Nico is like "no go away I don't like you don't talk to me"
But eventually he opens up to Jason, because Jason was like "I'm sorry you had to do that I promise I won’t tell anyone and if you want to talk we can talk"
Anyhow eventually Nico kind of just breaks down and he's like "I don't know if I'm a boy or a girl? I think I used to be a girl, but now I am a boy and I don't really remember how it happened” or something similar
It takes Jason a moment but eventually he’s like “Oh you’re trans?”
And Nico;s like “heh? What’s that?
And so him and Jason talk, but Jason is only kind of well versed in this topic, so he only covers “basic MtF and FtM transition because he doesn’t really know enough about other genders to feel comfortable explaining it
And Nico’s like “there’s people? Out there?? Like me??” and he’s just Happy Nico ™
Nico is like “and there are people like me who like boys?”
And Jason is like “Yeah totally!” but internally he’s like (I think so??)
Anyhow Nico feels a little better, but he doesn’t feel perfect, he’s still struggling a little bit internally to recognize that there’s other people like him and he’s not wrong for being him
Anyhow, Jason doesn’t know enough about this stuff to know binders exist, Jason just has a little bit of secondhand information from tv shows and from being from California… He promises he’ll look into various things more when he’s back at camp or has decent access to internet
On Nico’s quest with Reyna and Hedge he obvious evaporates Bryce, and Reyna and Hedge find out
They find out he’s gay as in canon, but they realize he’s trans when caking him in mud
Hedge just goes into dad mode about the situation and is like “son”, “sport”, “kiddo”, “my male child” etc
Reyna knows a little more about trans stuff than Jason, but she’s kind of in the same “ehhh I’m not really sure of a few things” boat, but she’s supportive and she’s like “I will beat anyone who gives you a dirty look up so fast”
Eventually they get to camp, and all that happens
Three days in the infirmary happens, and basically Nico has to tell Will for medical reasons that he’s trans because Nico needs stitches or something
Anyhow Will is like “Oh yeah cool me too, can you take your binder off now?”
And Nico is like “heh???”
Anyhow Will finds out Nico is binding with ace bandages and he’s like “no, don’t do that” and then he goes and finds a proper binder in Nico’s size which he gives to him after his stay is up
When they befriend one another they have a short conversation about gender and Will is discussing like gender theory 101 type stuff, and he’s like “wait why dont you know this- oh yeah you’re from the thirties- wait do you even know what nonbinary means??”
And Nico is just staring at Will like he has three heads for the whole conversation
So Will teaches Nico about gender and pronouns, and gender presentation vs gender identity, etc
And so Nico goes “wait so there are people like me who are also gay?”
And Will is like “I like boys and girls and everything in between so yeah”
And the whole enby thing doesn’t really stick with Nico at that point he’s just like “hmm interesting, so testosterone?”
It’s just not his biggest concern, he’s just happy to know there are in fact others like him, and no he’s not crazy for not being dysphoric over his period, and that’s normal too
And he’s just like “oh so that’s top dysphoria?”
And Will is like “yeah :/”
“Oh :/”
“Mhmm :/”
Anyhow they become like good friends and they start dating sort of on accident, like they’re too close to just argue they’re friends anymore, and at some point Will just shows Nico how to give him a T shot and it’s like chill, they’re chill
Anyhow one day someone is kind of confused by Nico’s gender so they use the word “they” and it makes Nico really happy for some reason, so he goes back to Will and he’s like “tell me about this whole nobinary thing again?”
And Will is like “yes absolutely”
And Nico goes “I think I might be nonbinary can we try new pronouns?”
And so they go through all sorts of new pronouns, and Nico decides he still likes he/him but he also likes they/them and xer/xem… They likes she/her too but Nico finds it too uncomfortable sometimes because it reminds him of dysphoria
Nico decides xyr uncomfortable with using she/her but they like using female gendered terms so he does that
(Listen, I know Will saying “this is my boyfriend” was a big moment but Will calling Nico his “wife” is 10/10)
Nico’s friends are all super supportive and they do their best to learn more about gender and such things in order to better support and care for Nico
They all use different pronouns for xem and some people alternate pronouns too, but Nico knows that takes more practice
But it’s just like good and positive in Nico’s life
And he begins to play with fashion a lot and xe finds out xyr love of skirts with tights and combat boots because it’s 10/10 the best fashion
Nico also loves their big jackets and they just looks so comfy all the time everyone is like “I want to be him” and Nico grows their hair out long again, and gets his ears pierced and xe’s just a nonbinary fashion icon
They are just so cool once they figure out gender more and Nico’s just happy to play around with xyr gender and he just enjoys it
Will doesn’t play around with gender so much, he’s 100% a binary trans guy but T helped make him comfortable enough in his femininity to wear skirts a little bit on the occasion (Will in a cat maid dress 10/10), but heels and skinny jeans for some reason are still big dysphoria triggers for him so he does have some limits on what he’ll wear
Will gets top surgery when he’s like 17 because Naomi is an extremely supportive parent
So that’s how Nico meets Will’s mom and she’s like “it’s so nice to finally meet you!” and Naomi just immediately falls in love with xem and Will is like “I know they’re amazing”
And Nico is just really supportive and they sort of role reverse and Nico plays nurse while Will recovers from top surgery and they has to like brush his teeth and stuff
The experience (despite the fact that Will had an easier recovery) assures Nico in how much he wants top surgery, and he’s sad he’ll have to wait another year until he’s 18 to get it done
Anyhow Hades finds out and agrees to sign the wavers, so once Will is healed up enough to wear he can put his own clothes on and stuff, Nico decides to go through with xyrs own top surgery then too
Reyna comes to help Will take care of Nico, and Jason does too
Originally Will was supposed to help more with Nico’s care but he wasn’t able to do as much as he thought so they had to phone their friends
Eventually they both heal up really well and they’re happy to be done with that
Nico spends time debating testosterone, while Will spends time debating lower surgery
During this time Nico starts art school and Will starts medical school
Meeting more nonbinary people makes Nico feel at home and he determines that xe doesn’t want to go on testosterone but it’s still a maybe in the future
Will however decides he does want lower surgery, so Will and Lou Ellen decide to get lower surgery together as friends so they can share in the pain (Lou Ellen is a trans woman as far as I’m concerned this is canon)
Nico takes some time off to do school from home so he can help the two of them, and Naomi comes to live with them as well for a bit
Will and Nico both finish school eventually and they decide to adopt trans kids to help them out more
Anyhow, I hope you enjoy all of that anon! I'm all ideaed (idea-ed??) out and so I hope this is at least similar to what you were looking for, and this is helpful with your dysphoria somewhat <3

Love in the Time of Corona <Three>
Three.
Scott and Chris greet Nico and Colton as they come back inside from the cold.  Even though Nico is in Colton’s hoodie she still looks cold and shaken a little, but she has a smile on her face so maybe everything is ok.
“We all good now?”  Scott asks giving Colton a slightly dirty look.
“Yeah, we are good just had to have a sibling chat about being over protective.”  Nico says giving Colton a look with a small smile.
Chris nods his head in understanding.  “Overprotective is not a bad thing.  Sometimes it is needed.”  He gives Colton a smile to let him know he gets it.
“I’m sorry Chris and Nico.”  Colton replies.  “I just worried and shouldn’t because we are adults who are out of their twenties and know how to act.”
“Agreed”. The three replied.
Nico gives her brother a hug then pulls away excitedly from him to tell him good news.  “Guess what was made last night… well this morning and is ready to eat?”
“Pepperoni rolls!”  Colton replies excitedly.
She nods her head and walks over to the kitchen.  She proudly pulls out 4 rolls wraps them in a paper towel then put it in microwave for thirty seconds.
The smells of freshly baked bread and melting mozzarella cheese fills the room making everyone’s mouth water. Nico proudly put a roll on a paper plate and then in front of everyone. Scott and Chris look at the delicious roll, while Colton digs in and moans at the taste.
“Sis, it has been wayyy too long of me not having one. It’s so good.”  Colton says. “ Babe what do you think?”
With his mouth full of food, “Oh wow!  Nico this is absolutely amazing!  I’m going to probably need another one.”
“Hey! Save the rest of us some!” Colton says as Scott heats up another roll.
Nico looks at Chris as he is eating, waiting to hear him say something. “Well, Chris . . . What do you think?”
Chris looks up from his roll and gives her a genuine smile that made her heart stop.  “It’s amazing. I had fun helping you make this.  It’s so simple but wow.”
Nico leans across the island and smiles back at him with pride.  She can’t help but feel proud when everyone was complimenting her baking. Thankfully they know she can carry her weight around the house.
**************************************************************************************************************
Mid afternoon rolls around and Nico decided that it was time for a nap.  After the last few days she needed sometime to just fully unwind and not feel so stressed out. When she packed her paci originally she didn’t think she would really need a few things like this but she is glad she did.
She closes the door and grabs her fuzzy Hello Kitty blanket and her sea foam green pacifier.  Nico was a little and needed to be in little space for a little bit because she was feeling overwhelmed and didn’t want an anxiety attack.
It’s something she has been doing for a few years with very few of her friends knowing. Age regression wasn’t something she was ashamed of but some people just wouldn’t get it and instead of explaining she just never told anyone.  It was her own little secret from the world.  She had gotten into it from an old boyfriend who was her daddy and realized she loved being little, just didn’t love him.
After pulling off her leggings she snuggles with her blanket wrapped around her arm and under her head with her paci in her mouth and falls to sleep. Aside from having Chris snuggle with her the night before, this is what helps her sleep and feel safe.  She just hopes that she won’t have the urge to be little the majority of her time there.  Not sure if Colton can handle anymore surprises.
**************************************************************************************************************
Chris has finished up his last meeting for the day and was curious to see what Nico was up to. He appreciated the fact that she could keep herself entertained instead of being loud and crazy like Scott and Colton.
When he didn’t see her in the common areas he figured she was in her room. He knocked on the door two times and no answer so he slowly opens the door. What he saw shocked him a little bit.
Nico was fast asleep with the blanket she had last night and a pacifier in her mouth. From the way she was breathing it was a very deep sleep. Chris admired how peaceful and beautiful she looked while she slept. He was still curious about the pacifier but figured he would ask a later date.
Part of the reason was because obviously she wanted her and the pacifier to be private hence why she was in her room with the door shut and not on the couch as before. And the other part he wasn’t sure if her brother knew anything about it and didn’t really want another confrontation.
So he did what he usually does outside of Googling. . .
Chris: Hey guys I have a question.
RDJ: Ok then what is it,
Chris: She is sleeping with a pacifier. That’s not normal but I want to know why but don’t want to ask her.
Hemsworth: Well, maybe she just has like a secret addiction.
RDJ: Highly unlikely.
Sebastian:  Maybe she is a little.
Chris: A little what ?
Sebastian:  Umm how do I put this . . . She is submissive and like the idea of being a little girl with a ‘Dom Daddy’.
RDJ:  Do I want to know why you know this?
Hemsworth: I can already figure why he knows this.
Sebastian: Look I’ve dated some interesting ladies. A little is actually nice and they call you Daddy 🍆🍆
As Chris reads this he tries to run through all the things that she might have done or said to prove that she is one.  He does know that she does likes rainbows, unicorns, and glitter but that doesn’t make him think she is a little.
Chris: So dating a little?  How does it even work?
Sebastian: Pretty easy to a certain point. Rules, punishments, and rewards. The one I was with worked a normal job and everything but a few days a week when she got home she would regress and I would take care of her.
Chris: And punishment as in. . . ?
Sebastian: Spanking, sitting in the corner, or maybe ignoring her for a few hours. It was odd she hated that one the most. But man, calling her a good girl or kitten would be her undoing.
RDJ: Seb you are a weird little man. How did you find her?
Sebastian:  I didn’t know she was when we first met. She eased me into it. It was fun.
Chris: Ok then. I’ll have to do some research.
Chris closed out his messages and decided to take Dodger outside so he could run off some energy. The dog had become fond of Nico since he would follow her around and was even sitting outside her door while she slept.  Good to know he wasn’t the only one fond of her.
While walking outside with his dog he hit another text message privately from Sebastian.
S: Hey it sounds like you are still unsure about her. Here is a few links about the lifestyle.
C: Thanks. I really have been enjoying her company. And if that is what she is into I can be her ‘daddy’.  Just not sure how her brother would handle it.
S: He doesn’t need to know about what she like to do in and out of the bedroom. And it’s not like she wants to be walked around on a leash.  Just likes to be submissive and care free.
C: I know. Maybe it is a coping skill that helps with her anxiety.
S: She has anxiety!  That is probably a driving force. It helps them to relax and not worry about the things that are bothering her.  Also it helps her to sort through her feelings a bit.
C: That’s a different way to cope but who am I to talk?
S: Exactly. If you really want to see if she is. Offer her something off your fork or spoon. If she doesn’t want to tell her to “be a good girl and have some” and if she does say she’s “a good girl” and see how she reacts.
C: Sounds incredibly sexist and might piss her off.
S:  Maybe so but there is a time and place for it all. And if she is. She’ll go for it.
C: Idk man. That just seems extreme but I might try it. Just to see.
S: I mean she is sleeping with a pacifier . . . I feel like that’s a pretty clear indication.  Hell you might like it too!  Being a daddy is fun.
Chris shakes his head then looks at the link that he was sent.  Scrolling through it and reading it made him feel unsure but excited by the idea of being a dom daddy and not just in the bedroom.
He would be lying to himself that he didn’t enjoy being in control and making his female at the time cum when he said it was ok. The idea of Nico under him and calling him ‘daddy’ made him hard.  He could see her with pigtails and her large brown eyes looking so big and expressive wanting and begging for him.
Scott came outside and made Chris shake his thoughts of Nico doing naughty things. He feels like he is going to need a cold shower after all those thoughts
**************************************************************************************************************
Nico woke up from her nap after an intense sex dream with Chris. She was dreaming about having him as her ‘daddy’.  She dreamed of wearing pigtails and glasses and just begging for snuggles and then it transitioned into something different. It has been a few years since she had sex. So maybe she was slightly overdue.
Dinner was uneventful thankfully. Granted thorough out the meal Nico would look at him while he wasn’t paying attention and vice versa. By the end of the meal she was squirming with semi damp panties.  Really wishing he knew that side of her.
When Chris saw Nico with her hair in pigtails at the dinner table it made him hard instantly and was thankful that they were at the table. She would unconsciously twirl her hair around her finger while talking. As innocent as she was doing it the thoughts both of them had were not so innocent but neither knew what the other was thinking.
Scott and Colton had went to bed early since both had early morning meeting, leaving Chris and Nico alone with each other. While they were making their exit Nico had changed out of her contacts and once again put her unicorn glitter glasses along with shorts, cami, and over the knee socks.
Chris almost lost it when he saw her come out with the glasses and the pigtails from his fantasy. They had watched one episode of Rick and Morty then he decided that he would try as Seb had suggested.  He grabbed a peaches and cream fruit cup and starting eating it.
“Oh wow this is really good!  You should try some.”  He said getting her attention.
She shifted from sitting criss cross applesauce on the furtherest most part of the couch to standing and moving closer to him to sit.  Her nose scrunched at the cup.  “What is that?”
“It’s a peaches and cream fruit cup.  Do you want to try some?  Here?”  He states as he offers the spoon to her.
“Ummm no thanks.  I’m good right now it does smell yummy though.”
“Ohh come on be a good girl.  I don’t have cooties.”  He replied calmly.  He waits to see her expression to making the comment.
Nico tried to have a poker face but hearing ‘good girl’ struck a nerve.  Her eyes got larger and she wanted to be a good girl too she scoots closer to him and open her mouth to the spoon he is offering her.  He was right it was really good.  As soon as she accepted the spoon Chris replied. “That’s a good girl.  Yummy right?”
Without thinking Nico fell back into little space making her voice get softer.  “Yes daddy it was delicious.  Thank you.”  After she realized what she said to him she blushed hard and got up to leave embarrassed by saying something so private out loud.
Chris picked up on her shock and embarrassment and realized he had to do be a Dom daddy at that moment.  “Kitten?  Did I say you could leave?  We still have the rest of the fruit cup to finish so come here and eat it with me please.”
Nico nodded her head going back into little space.  “Yes sir.”  She sat back down on the couch close but far enough away from Chris.  She felt her chest getting tight but figured for the night being little with him might not be too bad.  It has been a while since she had a daddy.
“Would you like another bite of it?”  He asked.  She nodded at him.  “Use your words kitten.”  Despite not having done this before he was easily falling into the role.  Later on he will have to thank Seb for the links that he sent because he probably would have messed it up without a little bit f studying.
“Yes sir.”
“Such a good girl.”  He replied while feeding her another spoonful.
Soon enough the fruit cup was empty and the two sat there still watching Rick and Morty.  Chris figured that she would try to run again but she didn’t. She sat there quietly, obviously processing everything that has just happened.  While she was processing it all he pulls her into his lap.
Feeling so confused about what happened stressed Nico out but then suddenly relaxed when he pulled her into his lap.  She shocked herself by not even pulling away, she just let him do it.  He smelled amazing and she felt like she could stay like this forever.  He sensed her body was slightly tense still so he rubbed her back and stroked her pigtails.  A small yawn escaped her.
“Are you tired?”  He asked her.
“Just a little bit.”  She replied fighting the urge to fall asleep in his arms.
He looked at the clock and realized it was almost midnight so it is time for bed.  He thought about what to do next.  Putting her to bed was the option but wasn’t sure if her bed or his bed.  She looked so beautiful in his arms she looked up at him with her large brown eyes and didn’t want her to sleep alone or her to be woken up with her brother.
“OK, lets go to bed.”  He stated firmly but calmly.  The tone of his voice was everything for her.   She was about to pull herself away from his lap but he still held her close. “Do you want your pacifier before we go to bed?”
She was pleased by hearing him ask her if she wanted her paci. It has helped her sleep times than she cares to admit. “Yes please.”
He lets her stand up, “Ok kitten go get it and whatever else you need to go to sleep. Come back to my room. You have 5 minutes.”  And with a lite tap on her bottom Nico was quickly walking to her room.
While she was gone Chris turned off the tv and the lights and headed to his room. He couldn’t believe she was little, but didn’t know really where to go from there. At this point he figured he would play it by ear.  As if on time to knowing he needed some more help.
S: So did you try it? Is she a little?
C: Yes. And she is most definitely one.
S: Nice!  So what all have you done together?
C: After she ate off the spoon I cuddled her. She relaxed a lot in my lap. I told her it was bedtime and I told her she was sleeping in my room tonight. She is currently going and getting her pacifier and blanket.
S: Look at you. Like a duck to water.  How does this make you feel?
C: Excited to a certain point then nervous. I don’t want to do it wrong or hurt her.
S: Gotcha and understandable. If you just remember her mind set isn’t of an adult but a child. Might wanna ask her what her little age is.
C: That seems like a lot. But I like her and am willing to try this whole thing out.
S: You got this. You can most def be her dom daddy.
Chris locks his phone then looks at his clock. One more minute then I’m getting her.  Before he could get up to head to her room she comes running in with her blanket and pacifier in hand.
While she was gone she had changed to an oversized shirt that barely covered her thighs and kept the socks on.  Seeing her made him mentally groan with satisfaction.
“I’m back sir with one minute to spare.”  Nico said softly.
Chris stood up and towered over her making her feel small but safe. He puts a finger under her chin. “Good job kitten. But from now on you call me daddy or sir when we are alone. Understood?”
“Yes sir.”  Nico rubs her eyes again with a small yawn. “Can we go to bed now?  I’m really tired.”
“Come on daddy’s tired too.”  He says cheerfully but still slightly tired.
Nico gets in the soft cool sheets, she uses her blanket as a pillow and blanket like always. Chris take her pacifier from her and examines it. He pulls the covers over her. He crawls in bed next to her and she moves closer for warmth.
“Are you warm enough?”  He asks as she buries her head into his chest.
“Yes sir.  It’s perfect not to hot or to cold.”
Nico closed her eyes feeling very comfortable with him. Comfortable not only because she was tired but for the fact that he was accepting her little. She lets another yawn come out and Chris puts the pacifier in her mouth. She slowly sucks it into her mouth letting her tongue come out in a very erotic fashion.
She fully relaxes once she has her paci. As she was closing her eyes Chris pulls her paci from her mouth. Making her whine a little bit.
“Daddy?”  She said in a voice just above a whisper.
“Kitten, I forgot a good night kiss.”  He replies in a seductive voice.  He leans in and cups her face. First a kiss on the forehead then the nose and finally her lips. When they connected    both felt no longer tired but aroused.
Her arms went around his neck and his hands traveled and cupped her bottom. He nips at her lip a little causing her to moan. Chris wanted to kiss her from top to bottom but pulls himself away and once again kisses her nose then forehead.
“Good night kitten.”
“Good night daddy.”

So this ended up as ficlets because I wanted to do something more in depth than just headcanons :3 I switched it up a little from the request just so it didn’t feel like I was repeating myself too much, so Vergil’s doesn’t involve him returning directly after a mission. I hope this is still ok!
These are actually also SFW because for some reason I am in fluff mood today! The break is just due to the length since this ended up longer than anticipated!
Dante
Dante sighed as he walked through the door of the shop, worn out from a 3 day job he was unwittingly signed up for. He threw his coat onto the stand expertly and turned the key to lock the door. He walked towards the kitchen, planning on grabbing himself a cold beer from the fridge before stopping, startled by the sound of soft snoring.
He glanced towards the source of the sound, a soft smile spreading up his cheeks, crossing his arms across his chest at the sight. His S/O was curled up wearing one of his spare t-shirts, a pair of his boxers and was wrapped around what he could only assume was his old worn coat. She was lying on her side, hugging it tightly with her arms and legs, mouth slightly ajar, nuzzling the collar of the coat against her face.
He sighed, arms relaxing to his sides, the tension in his shoulders all but lifting at the sight of her peaceful face. He walked over to her quietly and knelt down next to the couch, brushing her hair behind her ear gently and placing a light kiss on her forehead.
“Hmmm... D-Dante?” She stirred, mumbling his name, eyes opening slightly, eyelids still heavy with sleep.
“The one and only babe. Making yourself comfy there?” He ran his fingers through her hair, helping her wake.
“Huh? Oh!” She sat up quickly, scrambling to straighten out the coat, pressing out any creases. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to fall asleep like this. I just saw it hanging up over there and... well...” Her eyes fell to the floor, cheeks flushing red as Dante chuckled at the sight, slotting himself between her legs now hanging from the couch, wrapping his arms around her waist.
“You missed me.” Dante finished her sentence, smile on his face as she gasped slightly at his words.
“Y-yeah... I did.” She placed the coat down, wrapping her arms around his broad shoulders, nuzzling her face into his hair, inhaling his musky scent.
“Well, I’m here now. Sorry for leaving you for so long, I’ve missed you too, so damn much.” He nuzzled closer to her body, squeezing her tightly, before letting out a sigh. “I better go get a shower, even I’m not shy to admit how gross I am right now.” He moved to stand up before his S/O held onto him tighter, stopping him in his tracks.
“N-no! You don’t need a shower. You can... stay like this, if it won’t bother you too much.” He smiled at her words, tightening his grip on her waist.
“In that case then,” taking her by surprise, he picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder as he walked towards the stairs, “lets take this upstairs. Seeing you wrapped around that old coat of mine made me jealous.” He cheekily groped her ass getting a restrained yelp from her. “And seeing how well you wear these clothes of mine is giving me all sorts of dirty thoughts.” He nipped at her thigh with his teeth as he kicked the bedroom door open, dropping her on the bed, quickly removing his cumbersome clothing before climbing over her.
“Time to show you just how much I’ve missed you babe.”
Vergil
Vergil stirred from his sleep, the first rays of sun waking him. He turned over to find the other side of the bed empty, much to his surprise. He had expected his S/O to creep up part way through the night, against his wishes, to join him. A part of him felt somewhat... touched at the fact that she had given him the distance he requested.
He had been seeing his S/O for some time now, and was slowly allowing them closer to him. She had asked if they could stop over for the night, having had a few beers and missing the last bus home. The evening was spent mostly in a comfortable silence, as Vergil read and his S/O had watched, what he described as agonisingly dull late night TV. He’d be lying however if he said he didn’t enjoy her company and liked hearing her laugh at whatever it was she was finding funny.
By the end of the night, she was insistent that she was coming to bed with him, mind hazy from the strong beers that Dante always kept stocked in the fridge. He had made his stance clear that if she was stopping, she would be sleeping on the couch. What he wouldn’t say however was that it wasn’t that he didn’t want to share his bed with her, but more that he just didn’t trust himself not to accidentally lash out in the night; after all, he’d spent so long alone that he wasn’t sure how his prone self would react to the moving body of another next to him.
He climbed out of bed and pulled on a pare of loose joggers, something he’s only comfortable wearing in the confines of his own space. He wandered down the stairs to check on her, anticipating that she would probably need some water for when she woke up. He grabbed and filled up a glass in the kitchen before walking back into the foyer of the shop. Dante was away on business and didn’t expect to be back for a few days, so he knew her sleeping on the couch wouldn’t be an issue. Even he wasn’t cruel enough to subject her to sleeping in his unkempt brother’s bed.
He walked over to the couch, seeing her laying there as expected. What was unexpected however was that the blanket he had given her was strewn on the floor and she was actually laying under... his blue coat. His breath hitched at the realisation, unable to comprehend the many feelings that went through him at that moment. His eyes fell to her face, resting against the collar. Her mouth had fallen slightly open and drool was pooling against the leather.
He knows he should be irate, if it were Dante in the same position he would have already pierced him through the gut but for some reason, seeing the peaceful sleeping face of his S/O, he just couldn’t bring himself to be annoyed. As much as he wasn’t annoyed however, he still wanted his jacket back. He placed the glass of water on the table a bit more heavy handed than necessary, the sound startling her awake.
“Urgh...” She grumbled, pulling the jacket over her face to shield herself from the light. The creak of the leather made her gasp as she realised all too quickly what she was holding.
“May I ask how you came about having that? If I remember correctly, that went with me to my room last night.” She gingerly lifted the coat, handing it back to him, her hair dishevelled and eyes set back with weariness.
“Verge, if I knew, I would tell you but that damn beer did a number on me last night. Gods my head...” She sat up slowly as Vergil handed her the water, walking over to the kitchen with his coat in hand to wipe down the dampness.
“I-I hope you’re not mad. I really don’t remember getting it. You know I wouldn’t lie to you.” As she worried in the other room, Vergil wrapped the now dry coat around his shoulders, lifting the collar before his eyes went wide at a realisation; his coat now smelt of her. He stood still in the kitchen, enveloped in her scent, the smell of her perfume, of her shampoo even body odor that he would normally find repulsive was making his heart race.
“If you’d like,” She started again, “I can pay for the dry cleaning bill. I know you don’t like people touching your thi-”
“No!” He cut her off abruptly as he walked back into the foyer. She sat noticeably tense at his tone. Vergil’s brow furrowed as he sighed. “What I meant is there’s no need. It merely rested on you while you slept, you didn’t drag it through the gutter. It isn’t like you have no concept of bodily grooming unlike my idiot brother.” His shoulders dropped, body relaxing as he took deep breaths through his nose.
“Next time you decide to stay, I will permit you to sleep upstairs... with me.... if that so pleases you.” Her face lit up.
“R-really? Are you sure? I mean, yes I... I would love to.” A smile threatened to tug at Vergil’s cheeks seeing her expression. He ran his hand through his hair to regain his composure.
“Now, if you would like to get yourself ready I will accompany you for breakfast.” The smile still hadn’t left his S/O’s face as she stood with a renewed vigour, planting a sneaky kiss on Vergil’s cheek before darting towards the bathroom. The feeling of her lips hung on his cheek for a few moments, as he allowed himself to smile in his own company.
If her scent had this affect on him while awake, he had little doubt that she would be safe while he slept.
Nero
Nero quietly opened the door to the van, cautious so as not to wake his S/O. He had returned early from his job with Dante, expecting to be away for at least a few days, but after a day and a half of being strung along to find that these so called “demons” were some kids playing practical jokes in a “haunted house”, they decided to head straight home. She had been running errands with Nico while he had been away so he knew to expect her.
Nico was flat out, reclined in the drivers seat with her feet up on the dashboard snoring lightly. He tutted, knowing fine well how much grief he gets from her whenever he does the same. He carefully placed red queen up against the wall and slung his coat over the back of the passenger side chair. His eyes wandered to the futon, soft smile setting on his face seeing his S/O curled up sleeping soundly, hair strewn over her face.
He moved closer, unable to hold back a chuckle when he saw she was wearing his favourite hoodie, gripping it tightly to keep it pressed to her face. The sight was nothing short of adorable as he reached his hand down to brush her hair from her face. Her body shuffled at the contact, hand grabbing his wrist before his hand could leave her skin. Her eyes opened slowly, meeting his with a smile.
“Hey sleeping beauty.” He whispered to her gently. “I forget you’re such a light sleeper, sorry for waking you.” She shook her head, pressing his hand further into his face.
“Hmm don’t worry. You’re worth waking up for. You’re back early though; did everything go ok?” He knelt down on the floor, placing a soft kiss on her lips before leaning his head next to hers.
“Hmm kinda. Managed the job fine, just turned out it was a bunch of damn kids playing dress up with some overly techy gadgets they managed to get a hold of. Luckily they still paid us so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.” His S/O started to giggle.
“Please tell me you tied them all up in a circle before unmasking them. Did you guess it was the village kids, or did you think it might have been the church undertaker?” The giggling got louder as Nero’s face dropped.
“We would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for those meddling demon hunters!” She said in a mocking tone, snorting with laugher, trying to use her hands to drown out the noise.
“Oh haha, very funny. No we didn’t know it was the damn kids. Hey, this hard earned money pays for all those damn pop tarts you eat!” He pulled his face back from hers, crossing his arms as tears flowed from her eyes.
“Before ya’ll ask; we’re not renamin’ the van to the Mystery Machine.” Nico’s voice was the final straw, causing hi S/O to break into an outrageous fit of laughter.
“Come on Nico, dammit.” He all but spat in her direction. “Don’t throw fuel in the fire!”
“Hey Nico!” His S/O spoke through the laughter. “What do you think; Dante as Shaggy and Nero as Scooby?!”
“Ruh Roh Dante!” Nico mocked back, as they both fell into fits of laughter. Nero huffed before stomping off towards the shower cubicle.
“For the record, I did not sign up for this shit! Should have put it in the small print or something! You’re meant to side with me not her!” He pointed his finger towards Nico.
“Hun, I can assure you, I never agreed to that.” His S/O said, wiping a tear from her eye. “Just stop making yourself such a damn easy target and maybe one day I’ll stop.” With a final huff he slammed the door to the shower cubicle.
“Miiissed youuuu!” She shouted to him through the door. They both burst back into laughter when his response was an upturned middle finger poking out through the slightly reopened door.
______
Sorry if this went a bit off tangent from what you might have expected but I had way too much fun with it and just kind of rolled with it xD

somebody wants you - chap 1
First attempt to write about LuNami, one of the ships I love the most!
A quick reminder that English is not my primary language, so forgive me for any mistakes.
And our daily disclaimer: obviously, I don't own anything in One Piece because if I did, Luffy and Nami would already be together. Yeah.
You can read in AO3 and FFNET.
Chapter 1 - fissure
“Why the hell did you come with me, Luffy?”
Nami had been wondering that since the moment she left Sunny. Usually, the redhead tended to do the same activities during the time they stopped to recorder the Log Pose, especially while no fuss was yet to be settled. And as she believed that today would be no different, she thought she’d just need to divide the money between the crew members, say goodbye to everyone and go looking for her beloved clothing stores.
The magnetization would take around forty-eight hours, so it would be enough time for her to enjoy the city center, looking at stores after stores very calmly and still enjoy a little bit of the festival that would happen the other day.
I mean, if it weren't for the captain at her side.
For some reason, Luffy had stated loud and clear that he’d make company to Nami today and that "please, Usopp and Chopper don't cry" ("But they are already crying, Luffy.") because they would definitely explore the island together the next day.
That was an hour ago. Incredibly, neither Robin nor Sanji joined her and only the captain actually remained. Not that she minded spending time with the boy, quite the contrary - discreetly, Nami always tried to take advantage of any opportunities to be with him when it appeared.
After all, when you love someone, spending time together is always welcome.
Yeah. Love.
Not a crush, not an infatuation, let alone an affection from very close friends.
Currently, it was much more than that and Nami would no longer deny it.
The girl has been in denial for so long that since she finally managed to admit to herself that no, all this affection and concern can’t be just friendship, everything seemed to be much lighter. And it is not as if the whole world knew too - only Robin (and for the record, it was not of her own free will) because, let's face it, Nico Robin, unfortunately, is a very perceptive person.
Oh, and a certain pirate woman too.
So, as she knew that her archaeologist friend knew, Luffy's unexpected company could only be…
"Robin! She said that you needed my help!!". He happily exclaimed.
Sure. And in what exactly, Robin?
"I see... and she said what kind of help I needed?"
Nami was facing the fitting room mirror looking at the reflection of a completely electric Luffy running from side to side. As the redhead has been around for a long time, the captain's hyperactivity was nothing new, but she knew that the girl at the store was about to go crazy with so much random yukata that he picked it up and threw it in her hands.
"Tomorrow's festival! She said that you really wanted to go, but that neither she nor Sanji could help you choose the clothes, so she said I could and here I am! Nami, Nami ... look at this yukata? What do you think of this? Look at this one!! It's that-
"BE QUIET!!". Nami screamed and Luffy pouted.
"Namiiii-"
She had no option - she had to hit his head. And it's not that the navigator got angry by the captain's fussiness, but that she knew very well why Robin had suggested it and why Luffy had accepted it. But honestly, she just wanted to have a peaceful day.
She just wanted to have one day without thinking about Monkey D. Luffy.
But okay, Nami is a grown woman. Her times of throwing a tantrum with the boy and being angry because of her own feelings were no more. If fate (Can I also say that fate is called Robin?) decided that today she would have to endure all the shenanigans of her best friend, so be it. She is much more than her unrequited feelings.
Their friendship is much more than her unrequited feelings.
In reality, the redhead never got to confess. Today she can identify that these feelings have always existed since the moment Luffy put the straw hat on her head, but it was only five months ago that she finally realized. Coincidentally, when she met Boa Hancock, the Pirate Empress.
The navigator admits how childish she was - what she deciphered that could have been a serious crisis of jealousy. Nami never thought that she could feel this much jealousy in her life and it almost ended the spirituality of the Empress's visit. Right from the start, the redhead didn't like how Hancock talked to Luffy, how she hugged him, how she looked at him, let alone how she said over and over again that she was going to marry the boy.
This caused her to simply raise hell inside the Thousand Sunny, raging at anyone at any time and even being rude to the woman. Obviously this didn't go unnoticed by the captain and Nami is almost sure that it was the first time that Monkey D. Luffy called her out seriously, which left her feeling so apprehensive and guilty that, in the end, it was enough for her to wake up.
"I don't know what's your problem, but you're not acting normal. Hancock is our visit and she's my friend. I will not let anyone mistreat her, not even you, Nami."
On the same day, the navigator addressed the empress alone, apologized and gave a lame excuse that she didn't even remember, but she knew that the words of the beautiful pirate would be forever marked in her mind.
"I know you don't like me because you're in love with him. I completely understand and don't judge you. But deep down, you know you’re not enough for him, don't you? Don’t get me wrong, I’m saying this it's what I see. He’ll always have to save you and you will never be able to really pay for everything he did, don't you think? Are you sure you could live in such a relationship?"
Few things have hurt Nami deeply - the impotence in the face of the murder of Bell-mère, the inability to save her village from Arlong, the need to discard a good part of her childhood for a greater cause… and now, the words of Boa Hancock. Each sentence felt as if the empress was sticking a knife into her chest and turning. The raw truth of the shichibukai's words remained with Nami in the same way that her tattoo remained on her arm after all this time.
She remembers how much she cried that day hidden in the bathroom after the party for the Kujas pirates ended. Deep down, she knew it was all true - she loved Luffy more than anyone could imagine, she knew that he really always found a way to save her from any situation even if she didn't ask, but that she was always with a heavy heart because at any moment, what the hell would she do if he got hurt irreparably because of her own weakness? She knew it was an unbalanced relationship.
She knew all this.
It hurt to finally stop pretending to herself and at the same time discover that she really wasn't enough.
However, the other day, Nami was a totally different person with Hancock and the entire crew. No more angry faces or snarky remarks - she tried to be as nice as she could, since the empress, despite giving a dirty look at the two women on the crew, did no harm to the navigator. Besides, Nami was fully aware that she was acting like a child just because Hancock was right in all of her observations and all the redhead could do was just accept it.
Besides, it's not like Luffy has any idea what it means to like someone more than a nakama. Nami didn't even have to confess to know that the captain didn't really see her that way. Few words were necessary to confirm this fact and she would be lying if she said that his firm denial about the mere idea of possibly being married to her had not hurt her either.
This escaped from his mouth shortly after Hancock's departure when Usopp and Chopper were messing with him about what he thought about marriage and romantic relationships since the beautiful pirate left no doubt about her true intention with Luffy. One word leads to another and Usopp, incredibly impertinent, asked if he had already thought about this type of thing about his female crewmates.
"Haa? No!! Robin is too old and Nami doesn't always do something fun. I don't think it would work, shishishi."
It really took the redhead by surprise - so much that she couldn't even hit him in the head for being rude. The reaction (or lack of) did not go unnoticed by the Straw Hats, much less by Luffy. He had the usual silly and innocent smile on his face, but when he realized that Nami just stared at him with no expression, the captain became confused and soon he started to panic thinking that his friend would hit him and "please Nami, don't do anything, sorry, sorry"-
In fact, the navigator did nothing. After a few seconds, she merely gave a fake laugh and agreed with Luffy ("Maybe you're right, Captain."), but everyone realized that since then their relationship has changed almost imperceptibly just because Nami was good at lying. But secretly, everyone was trying to fix this "something" that seemed to have been broken in the past few months, but that nobody knew exactly what it was.
Not even Nami knew. She tried to not show anything, but unconsciously, she started to avoid fondling with Luffy's hair (although she is often unsuccessful), tried not to wear the hat anymore when he puts it on her head, started to draw maps more often in the library, walked away when they were to close. Still, she still enjoyed every moment she could have with the rubber boy while maintaining a safe distance between the two. Since then, Nami has been stuck in this duality of wanting to get close, but at the same time to move away.
It's not as if an abyss had formed between them, but there was a slightly open fissure so that she knew where she should be when he was completely out of her reach.
It was also unnecessary to say how much she cried hidden in the bathroom for two days. And that's when Nico Robin found out. Nami really had no intention of telling anyone - it would be the secret she would keep under lock and key. But Robin... Robin was very observant and intelligent. Obviously, she noticed how Nami came back with puffy eyes in those two days that followed the captain's statement.
On the third day, the navigator cried on her friend's lap.
Initially, Nami tried to be as discreet as possible, but something told her that Luffy had noticed and since the Empress's fateful visit, the captain tried to get close to her whenever he could. She got tired of telling the boy that it was okay, that she hadn't been upset, that he doesn’t need to worry, but for some reason, he still persisted.
The funny thing is that Luffy, in one way or another, taught her and showed her several things, including what was a broken heart.
"Luffy, honestly, you didn't have to come. You could have gone for a walk on the island with Usopp and Chopper, no biggie. And tomorrow, I just intended to stop by the festival and go back to Sunny."
The girl sighed heavily as she smoothed the boy's dark hair. Of course she wanted to spend time with him (while not - and she gave a double sigh because nothing seemed to make sense in the last few months), but Nami would not impose her presence on someone who wasn't in the mood to enjoy it. Initially, she felt super offended and enraged every time she thought about how they almost never go out just the two of them during stops around the islands because he always ran to be close to Usopp, Chopper or Zoro, but nowadays she simply accepted that this is how it is.
Deep down, she wanted him to yearn for her company just as she craved for his, but you can't have everything, right? Luffy's friendship is one of the most valuable things that she possessed and she definitely would not lose everything due to selfish desires on her part.
Luffy accepted the pat on his head and just tilted his face expressionlessly.
"You don't want me to stay here, Nami?". His suddenly serious tone really surprised her.
"Of course I want. I just don't want to make you do something you don't want to do, you idiot. I can manage here without any problems. I'm sure you would rather go exploring the island than to look at clothes with me, nee Lu-"
"Would you prefer Sanji instead?". Luffy asked in his characteristic blunt way and Nami was startled again. I usually want your company, you idiot in a hat, the redhead thought, holding on the urge to roll her eyes.
"Haa? I didn't say that. I just meant that you would have more fun if you had gone with Usopp or Chopp-"
"Yoshi!! If you don't mind, then let's continue, Nami!! There are still other yukatas here that I separated- Oe, Nami! What time is the festival? Do we still have time??". The boy opened his eyes comically and Nami held on tightly to keep from laughing. He himself just said that the festival was tomorrow and has already forgotten. It's almost impossible to be upset with you, you fool!
“Calm down, Luffy. The festival is only tomorrow. Let's do this way: you finish helping me choose a yukata for the festival, then I buy you ice cream and you're free, what do you think?”
"Ice cream?? I want ice cream, Nami! Now?"
Another hit on the head.
"Didn't you hear what I just said, you moron??!! AFTER!!”
Luffy pouted and Nami almost gave in but preferred to keep her scowl on. The captain really managed to be uncontrollable when he wanted to.
"Okay, but you have to help me too, Nami! I’ll need clothes to go to the festival and you always say that I dress badly, but I’ll show you that you’re crazy and wrong."
"Are you going to the festival?? Why?? And… c-c-crazy? …CRAZY??"
The redhead raised her arm to beat Luffy up, but he was faster - he threw the yukatas on the floor and ran. But before leaving for the men's store, he looked at Nami from head to toe and said in a simple and cheerful way something she never imagined hearing from him.
"You look very beautiful, Nami! I think this is the best you have tried so far!! Shishishi."
And she could neither answer nor prevent her face from blushing.

CARRY ON COUNTDOWN DAY 20: Fairy Tale/Myth Retelling
AO3, AU
You must never show your magic to anyone except for your aunt, his mother’s voice reminds him.
It’s hard to keep that in mind while a man is being executed right in front of him, on the grounds that he’s a magician. Baz knows the man is not a magician, he doesn’t feel any traces of magic coming from him, but he can’t do anything about it.
He watches, alongside the group of townspeople surrounding him, the man getting dragged to the middle. Above them, on the castle balcony, the king is speaking. David Pendragon. Apparently, the queen was killed by magic, or “sorcery” as the king calls it, and since then magic has been punishable by death. That’s what his mother told him, anyway.
When the executioner lifts his weapon (it looks like a big axe), Baz looks away. His gut tells him to do something, but he promised. He’s not planning on dying anytime soon.
His gaze falls on a long open window, on the side of the castle, where a woman is looking out. She’s holding onto the side of the window, her wide eyes on the execution platform. Wild brown hair surrounds her round face, big spectacles on her nose and she’s wearing a dark blue dress. She doesn’t look very happy. Baz wonders who it is and why her reaction doesn’t match the excitement of the people.
The axe comes down and the crowd applauds.
As the king finishes his speech (“bla bla, sorcery is evil”), Baz turns away and wrestles through the gathered people. Fiona should be inside the castle, and he wants to get there before the guards return.
The voice of an old woman makes him stop. The crowd gasps when she shouts at the king with tears in her eyes. Baz watches, intrigued, until the woman says: “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a son for a son!”
He feels sorry for her, but she won’t escape after threatening the prince like that.
“Seize her!” The king shouts.
Then, the woman mumbles something, and vanishes with a flash of light and whirling wind. Everyone looks astonished at the place where the woman had been just a moment before, but after a few seconds the crowd disperses with loud whispers.
Baz is rooted to the spot. This woman, a clearly potent magician, vowed to kill the crown prince. He doesn’t harbour any strong feelings for the royal family, but he’s supposed to be a student of the court ‘physician’. The death of the prince would definitely hamper his lessons and he’s looking forward to them. His mother might even say he needs those lessons more than he needs food. An exaggeration, of course, but she’s right about his grasp on his magic.
Natasha taught him as much as she could in their house, behind Malcolm’s back, which wasn’t ideal. His father is an advisor to the advisor of the king, and he certainly wouldn’t condone magic. He obviously doesn’t know about Natasha’s magic, and she’s tried her best to keep Baz’ magic a secret as well. That didn’t make it quite easy to practise, so his mother send him to the palace to learn from Fiona, because apparently it’s safer in the castle than at home (absurd).
He glances up at the open window again, but the young woman is gone. With one last look at the spot where the magician disappeared, he heads to the castle.
*
The next morning, he’s suffering through breakfast. If bland porridge counts as breakfast. “Aunt Fiona, this is disgusting.”
Fiona’s walking around the kitchen, touching objects and mumbling words to make them move and clean. It’s strange to see magic being used in such a mundane way, but it also feels nice. As if this is where he’s supposed to be. “Stop complaining, Basilton. I’m teaching you magic for free, the least you could do is not be an arse.”
Even though it’s been five years since Baz last saw her, Fiona still looks and acts the same. Her dark hair has a white streak in it (she told him it happened during a fight, but his mother said it’s just an ill-advised choice that Fiona doesn’t want to fix), and her black robes are tied with a blood red cord around her waist, the same colour as her lips.
She disappears into a side room, and comes back holding two vials. She puts them in front of him. “Deliver these for me. The yellow one is for Nico, the blue one for Possibelf. Make sure she doesn’t drink it all in one go.”
Baz looks down at the vials and back at Fiona, standing before him with crossed arms and a lifted eyebrow. “I have no idea who those people are.”
She rolls her eyes and picks up his bowl. “Ask around.”
“I wasn’t finished eating.”
“Be quicker next time, I have a busy day planned.”
Baz gets to his feet with a sigh. The porridge was awful anyway. Maybe he can steal a sandwich from the kitchen. If he ever finds the kitchen.
“Wait, Basilton.” Fiona holds out a few sheets of paper. “Throw that in the fire, will you?”
The fireplace is on the other side of the room, though. And he hasn’t used his magic in a few days now, it’s starting to prickle. So instead, he puts the sheets on the nearest stone table and waves his hand over them. They light on fire immediately, and in a few seconds they’re nothing but ash. He smiles. Fire magic has always been his favourite.
“What the fuck was that?”
He turns around with a frown. There wasn’t anyone around, right? Fiona looks at him and back at the incinerated sheets. “What?” He asks.
“What did you just do?”
“I burned the sheets.”
“How?!”
“I...” He feels lost. “Magic?”
“But… You didn’t use a spell. How is that possible? What did you do?”
“I don’t need a spell to light something on fire, I just think about it and it happens. Is that not what magic is?”
Fiona’s eyes are wide. “It’s definitely not. All forms of magic require spells, even the small ones. You didn’t say anything?”
“No? I just,” he waves his hand around. “I thought about lighting it on fire and it worked. I did it all the time at home.”
“Natasha knew?”
“Of course!”
“Shit. So she wasn’t exaggerating when she said you were powerful.”
“I’m powerful?”
“Kid, you can do magic without saying anything. I’ve never heard of that before.”
Baz leans on the table for support. Natasha always told him he was special but he thought that was just a thing mothers did. “What now?”
She takes the vials and pushes them in Baz’ hands. Then she shoves him out the door. “Deliver those. I need to think.”
*
Two hours pass, and Baz is looking for the kitchen. This castle is massive, he keeps ending up where he started. He managed to find Nico and Possibelf eventually with help from the guards, but it wasn’t an easy task. He’s hoping Fiona doesn’t keep using him as a carrier pigeon and actually teaches him some magic spells in the afternoon, but that does not seem very likely.
He turns another corner and finds himself in a wide room, empty except for three people. He immediately recognizes one of them as the woman he saw the day before, with her wild hair and round figure. She’s wearing another expensive-looking blue dress. Next to her is a taller woman, with long blonde hair and fair skin. She looks like a maid, wearing a dirty servant dress, but she’s chatting with the noble woman so she must not be that low-ranking.
The women are looking at the spectacle in front of them. And what a spectacle, indeed. Baz creeps into the room and leans against the back wall, hidden in the shadows. Now he has a better view of the man, untamed blonde curls on his head, bright blue eyes, a tight shirt across his broad chest and sweat dripping down his neck. He’s incredibly attractive, and Baz’ eyes are stuck to the muscles in his back, flexing when he swings his sword around.
Baz never found sword fighting appealing, but he’s quickly revising that opinion.
When he finally pulls his eyes away, however, he notices the lack of skill the man possesses. Being the son of the advisor of the advisor of the king, he’s had his fair share of sword lessons. This man, it seems, has not had a lot of practice.
The women aren’t giving much commentary, they look like they’re mostly chatting among themselves while the man tires himself out, punching around with the sword in hand.
When the man does another inexperienced jab and stumbles over his feet, Baz can’t help a loud snort. The three of them turn around immediately to face him.
Having blown his cover, he walks out of the shadows confidently with a smile and raised hands. “Excuse me, hope I’m not intruding. I’m afraid I got a bit lost.”
“You got lost so you decided to watch us from the shadows?” The man asks suspiciously. It doesn’t make him any less attractive. Baz tries to focus by looking at the women.
“I’m Basilton Grimm-Pitch,” he tells them. “New assistant of the court physician.”
“Nice to meet you, Basilton,” says the smaller woman with an amused smile. “I’m Penelope Bunce, King David’s niece.” So he was right, she is a noble. A highly noble woman, family of the king. She gestures at the blonde woman. “This is my friend, Agatha. She works here.”
Baz tilts his head forward. “It’s an honour. If I may ask a question?”
Penelope nods.
He gestures at the man, who hasn’t said a word since his first sentence. “Why are you two wonderful women wasting your time watching this incompetent idiot? He doesn’t even know how to hold his sword properly.”
Penelope bursts out laughing and Agatha covers a smile with her hand. Baz looks over at the man with a smile, but he’s met with a withering look.
“Excuse me?” The man says, his face turning red.
“I didn’t mean to offend,” Baz says, but when Penelope keeps giggling, he figures he could go a bit further to entertain. He steps closer with a cocky smile. “Your moves could use some work. I’ve seen toddlers fight better than you.”
Penelope starts laughing again and she has to lean on Agatha to keep upright. It seems like he’s made a friend, maybe.
He’s not made a friend of the man, though. It’s a pity, but it would probably be better to steer away from attractive men.
Then the man lifts his sword in Baz’ direction with a menacing look in his eyes. “Do you have any idea who you’re talking to?”
Baz huffs a laugh, not wanting to be intimidated. “The king?” He jokes.
The man steps closer and pushes the sword tip into Baz’ chest. “My name,” he growls. “Is Simon Pendragon. And I’m the crown prince.”
Baz’ soul leaves his body. Fuck. He’s staring at the man, the crown prince, Simon bloody Pendragon, with wide eyes. Now he’s definitely never seeing his mother again. He’ll rot away in a cell at the bottom of the castle.
Thankfully, Penelope comes to his rescue. “Simon, calm down. He’s joking.”
Baz nods and steps backwards, away from the sharp tip. “I’m very sorry, your highness. I simply did not recognize you.”
“No shit,” the prince says, not lowering his sword, his eyes fixed on Baz. “Agatha, fetch a guard.”
Panic starts to rise but he presses it down and musters up a smile. “You’re going to throw me in jail because I made a comment about your sword fighting skill?”
“I could have you hanged, if you prefer that.”
“Simon.” Penelope doesn’t look too bothered. Maybe the prince is just all talk. Agatha has disappeared, presumably looking for a guard.
“I have a proposition,” Baz says, digging his grave even deeper because, for some reason, annoying the crown prince brings him pleasure. Maybe it’s because the scowl on his face makes him look more human, and less perfect. “What if we fight it out?”
“What?”
“Give me a sword, the winner decides what happens to me.” Baz throws him a challenging look.
The prince looks confused for a second. He must not be used to people talking back to him. Then his expression clears up and he smiles. It’s not very reassuring. “Fine,” the prince says. “I’ll fight you. Too bad there’s no sword for you.”
Before he can react, the prince charges at him. Baz panics and closes his eyes, bracing himself. When he doesn’t feel or hear anything after a second, he opens his eyes again, and his mouth falls open.
Everyone’s frozen in time. The prince is in the middle of his attack, raised sword, eyebrows furrowed, not blinking. Penelope stands still, her eyes on the prince, one hand reaching for him.
Baz walks around slowly, the pair like statues, and goes to a window. He’s shocked to see that everything outside is frozen as well. Everyone and everything is stuck, unmoving, in the middle of a motion. It looks like a painting.
Shit. Did he do this? How does he undo it? He’s not looking forward to telling Fiona about this.
He walks back to Penelope and the prince, and goes to stand in the same place he started. Then he looks at the prince’s sword, aiming for him, and he takes a big step to the left.
He tries to think about what makes his magic work. Fiona says it’s not normal, but it’s how he does it. Baz waves his hand and thinks, ‘please, let the time continue’.
Suddenly, the prince stumbles forward and Penelope’s reaching for him. They both look confused at the spot he was at before, and then at Baz. Penelope squints at him.
The prince says, “What the fuck.” Very princely.
“You missed,” Baz can’t help but say. He looks over at the window but everything seems to be okay again. The birds are flying around and people on the ground are moving. Disaster averted. Nobody even noticed.
“Impossible.”
“You should work on your aim.”
“You fucking git.”
Before the prince can insult him more, Agatha arrives with a guard.
“I’ve got this handled,” Penelope says before Baz can come up with an escape plan. She nods at the prince. “Go have some lunch.”
Surprisingly, the prince doesn’t protest and leaves with the guard and Agatha in tow. Disaster averted, again.
“Thank you,” he says.
“Simon can get a bit hot-headed sometimes. Definitely when he’s practising.”
“Why can’t the prince fight? Shouldn’t he get training?”
Penelope shakes her head. “David doesn’t want him to fight. He says a good king doesn’t need to be able to fight, he needs to be righteous and diplomatic. Personally, I think the king is afraid of being overthrown by his own son.”
Baz’ eyes snap to Penelope. “Why would the prince overthrow the king?”
She shrugs. “Simon isn’t planning on it, but he doesn’t agree with a lot of his father’s policies either.”
“Hm.”
“Not the magic one, sadly. The death of his mother hit him hard. One of these days I’ll convince him.”
“You don’t think magicians should be punished?” He asks, carefully. It would explain why Penelope looked like that at the execution the previous day.
She snorts. “I’d be a hypocrite if I thought that.”
“What?”
“I’m a magician, Basilton.”
“What?” He sputters. “You can’t just… tell me that. You don’t know what I could...”
Penelope rolls her eyes. “I’m not an idiot. You did something while Simon tried to hit you. You’re clearly a magician too. And Fiona told me.”
He’s still trying to process the fact that Penelope has magic too. Fiona told her about him? And she didn’t even bother to mention it? He was going to have words with her later.
“Don’t look that scared about it, this is great! I’ll have a magic mate. Could you teach me what you did? Was it a teleportation spell? I didn’t see you cast anything, though. What was it?”
“I’m not sure. I don’t think we should be talking about this here.”
Penelope looks around them. They’re still in the empty room, but there are probably guards outside. “You’re right. We’ll chat later. You should meet the dragon first.”
“Dragon?”
*
Great. Just great. Now he’s apparently part of some prophecy, destined to protect Simon Pendragon until he becomes king, and help him unite Watford.
He never asked for this.
And the crown prince would never accept his help, let alone be his friend and listen to his advice.
Terrific.

“An Unexpected Return”- OneShot
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I’M BACK FROM THE DEAD!  🙌🏻 🙌🏻 🙌🏻 🙌🏻 🙌🏻 🙌🏻 🙌🏻
I never thought I’d write Nico’s POV but, oh well, a prompt is a prompt  🤷🏻‍♀️ Kudos to whoever came out with this idea because I don’t remember who it was and I can’t find the ask 😂
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nico stood outside the Jam & Roller with sparkling eyes and a huge smile on his face. The place hadn’t changed a bit, at least from the outside. He breathed a long, contented sigh, thinking about all the moments he had lived inside those walls, all the people he had met, how much he had missed them and Buenos Aires. He almost couldn’t believe he was there again. He was finally back.
He had barely stopped by his hotel room to drop his bags before he was out the door, grabbing a cab and heading directly to where he was now. Even if the exterior was the same, he knew things had changed. None of his friends worked there anymore, they went to a bigger rink when anyone wanted to skate, and all of them had found bigger stages for themselves than the small one of the Jam & Roller. The building had become too small for all the stars that had been born there, but every once in a while, they all liked to hang in the place where all had started.
Nico knew some of the guys would be there that day because he had spoken to Pedro. He had wanted to surprise everyone, but it would’ve been hard to find them all without at least some help, so Pedro had been the only one he had talked to in advanced and informed that he was coming back. Pedro had always been his best friend after all, even while he was away. Of course, he had met new people in New York and made new friends, but he had kept in touch with everyone from the Roller in at least some degree. He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t drift apart some bit with some of them, that was just how life worked, but never Pedro. They may have been born from different parents, but that guy was his brother, nothing would ever change that.
Finally, he shook himself out of his reminiscing and walked inside. Some furniture had been changed, there were new paintings on the walls, but overall, the Jam & Roller remained the same.
He only needed to take a couple steps into the cafeteria for him to see them. Sat around a table on the right, were Pedro, Matteo and Ramiro. The three were drinking and talking avidly. Ramiro had his hair shorter than Nico had ever seen it, but otherwise he looked pretty much the same. Matteo had a beard now, which, of course, he had seen in photos, but it was almost weird to see it in real life. He had met him before he could grow any facial hair.
God, time really flies.
Pedro was the first to notice him since he had been waiting for him. He made a sign to the others to look in his direction. A second later, Matteo and Ramiro were staring at him wide-eyed and jumping to their feet.
“NICOOO!”
After that everything was hugs, questions, ‘I missed yous’ and a lot of smiles and laughs. They sat in the cafeteria like they used to do every day at some faraway point in their lives, and Nico felt wave after wave of nostalgia hit him, followed by happiness of being back to the one place that always felt like home.
They spent some time catching up with Ramiro’s and Matteo’s life while they asked about Nico’s time in New York. They all agreed to not go too into it right there though since they wanted everyone reunited to hear the stories. At the idea of gathering everyone later that day, Nico asked:
“Where’s Simón? I’ve missed that guy. I can’t wait to see him.”
Everyone seemed to think about it.
“Mmm, he must be—” Matteo started.
“In his apartment,” Pedro interrupted him. He retrieved a keyring from the pocket of his jeans. “Here, he gave me a key in case of emergencies. I’ll lend it to you so you can surprise him.”
Matteo and Ramiro looked at Pedro weirdly. Pedro didn’t seem to notice as he took out one of the keys from his keyring. Once free, he handed it to Nico.
“Simón’s got his own place now?” Nico asked as he received the key. That was news to him.
“Actually—” Matteo started, only to be interrupted by Pedro again.
“Yeah, a little while back. We may be a band but, we didn’t need to be together 24/7. We all got our own places now.” Pedro took out his phone and started typing. “There. I sent you the address.”
“Cool.” Nico smiled from ear to ear and sighed. “God, I’m so happy to see all of you. I can’t wait to see Simón’s face!”
“Oh, he’ll be surprised for sure,” Ramiro commented with a funny tone before taking a sip from his drink. Matteo laughed under his breath but didn’t say anything. Nico ignored that, too excited from the prospect of seeing his friend again to notice. He said his goodbyes to the guys, promising to see them all later, and went his way.
--------------
Nico turned the key and opened the door of Simón’s apartment as quietly as he could. Of course, there was the chance that Simón was in the living room and therefore he would immediately see him, but if not, Nico didn’t want to ruin the surprise by making too much noise.
He wasn’t in the living room, turns out, and for the looks of it, he wasn’t in the kitchen either. Nico took a moment to appreciate the place. It was big with a shiny wood floor, casually decorated, nothing too fancy except for a huge TV in front of the black leather couch. Nico was a little surprised by how clean and tidy everything looked. He had been half expecting to see dirty clothes and music sheets spread around everywhere, but the place looked good as new. Well, to be fair, Simón had never been the messiest of the three when they lived together in the loft, but Nico still wasn’t expecting to see his apartment look so pristine.
Maybe his room is a disaster and he only cleans here for appearance’s sake.
Smiling at the idea, he walked to what he assumed was the bedroom since he could see the bathroom with its door open at the end of the hall on his left. The closed door next to it, he gathered, had to be were Simón was.
He bit his lip to try not to laugh as he softly turned the knob and pulled the door open. It had been a while since he did something mischievous like this and he almost felt childish for it but, whatever, he could afford to act childish once in a while.
The moment he opened wide enough to look inside though, he lost the smile.
Simón was indeed there, yes. The issue was that he was shirtless, pants-less, with just some black boxers covering his ass as far as Nico could tell. That alone was nothing new, he had seen him like that before. The real issue was that Simón was not alone. He was sitting in bed with… Ámbar, yes, that was Ámbar, on top of him straddling his hips. She wasn’t wearing more than two pieces of underwear and Nico definitely hadn’t seen her like that before.
The reason it had taken a moment to recognize her was because they were sucking each other’s faces so fervently that it was hard to distinguish one from the other.
As if that hadn’t been graphic enough, Simón had his hands on Ámbar’s hips, guiding her movements down as he thrusted up. What was coming out of Ámbar’s throat were definitely moans.
What came out of Nico’s throat was definitely a panicked shriek.
“OH MY GOD!”
The couple jumped and snapped their heads towards him. In a flash, Ámbar was under the covers while Simón placed a pillow on his lap and screamed at him at the top of his lungs.
“NICO, WHAT THE FUCK?!”
“I’M SORRY—”
“—YOU CAN’T JUST COME INTO—”
“—I’M SO SORRY—”
“—SOMEONE’S BEDROOM LIKE THAT—"
“—PEDRO GAVE ME A KEY—”
“—WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM—”
“—I DIDN’T KNOW, I SWEAR I DIDN’T KNOW—"
“—WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING HEre… Oh my god.”
Suddenly, the fight abandoned Simón and he stared at Nico open-mouthed.
“You’re here. Nico, you’re— NICO!”
Simón stood up and hugged him excitedly before placing his hands on his shoulders.
“Oh my god! When did you arrive?! Why didn’t you tell me anything?! We could’ve gone pick you up at the airport or organize a party for you.” He hugged him again. “God, I’ve missed you so much!”
From the bed, Ámbar cleared her throat pointedly. “For as much as I’m happy for you, could you perhaps have this reunion outside?”
Simón let go of Nico and turned to her. “Of course, my love. Sorry.”
He guided Nico outside the bedroom and closed the door behind them.
“Seriously, what are you doing here? Vacations?”
“Actually, I’m here to stay.”
“Really?!” Simón exclaimed with a grin before his expression turned to confusion. “But wait, I thought you were gonna stay there even if things with Ada didn’t work.”
Nico shrugged. “That was the plan, but then I got an offer for a music deal here in Argentina, so, here I am.”
“That’s so great, I’m so happy for you!” Simón hugged him again. “It’s so great to have you back. I’ve seriously missed you, we’ve all missed you.”
Nico gave him a funny look.
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re very happy to see me,” he said, moving his eyes down and then back at his face.
Simón lost his smile, visibly flustered. He punched Nico in the arm.
“You freaking ill-timed idiot. That’s on you, and you own me big time,” he pointed with his finger.
“Sorry, I didn’t think Ámbar would be here.”
Simón frowned. “Why wouldn’t she be here? We live together.”
Nico blinked.
“You—” Suddenly, every piece fell into place inside his head. “That son of a bitch, he didn’t tell me that! Now I know why Matteo and Ramiro thought it was so funny.”
“Pedro sent you?”
“Yeah. That bastard. He must have known what I’d find.” Nico was mad for haven fallen in his game so innocently. He’d definitely make him pay for it later.
Slowly, Nico’s frown turned into a wicked smirk. “…Who would’ve thought Simoncito would be like that, huh?”
“Don’t start,” Simón said, but Nico definitely wasn’t about to miss the chance to tease him, even if just a little.
“Should I tell her about how you used to talk about her in your sleep?”
“Don’t you dare,” was Simón instant response. “… Although,” he reconsidered, “she probably knows by now.”
“I do!” Came Ámbar’s voice from inside the bedroom.
Simón stepped next to the door and talked back to her.
“Love, if you’re listening, does that mean you’re decent now?”
“Yeah, just a second.”
Some moments later, Ámbar walked out of the bedroom wearing a red plaid shirt that seemed too big for her (probably Simon’s) and a jeans skirt. She had managed to make her hair look straight out of a hair salon while Simón’s still looked like a bird’s nest.
“Nico, hi, so good to have you back,” she greeted him with a smile.
Then she slapped him in the arm. Hard.
“Never walk in again like that or I swear you’re going to regret it, understood?”
Nico gulped under her threatening look and rubbed his poor arm that had received two hits in the last five minutes. “Of course, Ámbar. Sorry.” He looked at Simón. “I see she’s still feisty.”
Simón laughed and passed one arm around Ámbar’s waist. “I wouldn’t have it any other way,” he said and kissed the side of her head.  The way he looked at her and the look she gave him in return somehow seemed more intimate than what he had walked into before.
So that’s what love is supposed to look like, Nico thought with a little ache in his heart. He hoped one day he’d find that with someone.
He cleared his throat and smiled. “Anyway, I just wanted to come by and say hi. I’m gonna go now, but we should totally do something later.”
“Yeah, definitely,” Simón perked up. “Let’s see the details via text, okay?” He walked Nico to the door and gave him a pat on the shoulder. “See you, brother!”
“See you!” Nico said back with a grin. He looked behind Simón. “You too, Ámbar.”
“Until later,” she said with a wave.
Nico turned and heard the door close behind him. He went back outside and decided to head back to his hotel.
On the way there, he tried not to think about whether the couple had continued what they had been doing or not. A part of him would feel bad if they didn’t, but a bigger part of him just wanted to erase the whole notion of his friend having sex out of his brain.
----------------
It was later that day, during an improvised welcome party they threw for him at the Benson mansion, that Nico scolded Pedro for giving him Simón’s and Ámbar’s key without telling him anything.
All Pedro did was stare at him.
“If I have to be traumatized, so do you,” he said.
The dark, life-less look on his friend’s face made Nico wonder just what he had seen.
He decided to never speak about the subject ever again.
...
..
.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In case you were wondering, this was the prompt:  “ What would happen if Nico comes back and he is like "I miss Simón. Where is he?" And Ramiro, Matteo and Pedro just look at each other for three second then turn toward Nico, give him the key of the apartment and tells him the address. So Nico walk in the house and thinks "He must be sleeping" So he walks in the bedroom and he just find Simón and Ámbar half-naked making out, ready to do other things. What happens next is your choice (I'm all for Simón screaming and throwing him out)”

~~~~~
It was barely six in the morning when Cyrus shuffled into The Pit, one hand wrapped around a paper cup of coffee while the other sluggishly patted his pillow-mussed hair into shape. The sun was still making its slow ascent into the sky, spilling its morning glow across the ambulance bay outside, but Shadyside Hospital was already alive with people – patients and practitioners alike. As always, the air was buzzing with a frantic, suspenseful energy, but Cyrus had a feeling that today’s shift was going to be even crazier than usual.
As soon as he spotted Andi and Buffy standing next to a row of gurneys on the side of the room, Cyrus downed the last of his coffee, dumped his cup in the nearest bin, and dragged himself across The Pit to join them. His presence was met with a couple of weary nods.
“Morning, Cy,” Andi greeted him, blinking her tired eyes open as she attempted a small smile. “Sleep well?”
Cyrus groaned. “Too well… I didn’t wanna leave my bed.”
“I never do.”
“You two are depressing,” Buffy said with the quirk of an eyebrow. Despite the dark smudges beneath her eyes, she seemed relatively well-rested, and Cyrus envied her for it. “Whose service are you on today?”
“No clue,” Cyrus said. He stifled a yawn with the back of his hand and shrugged. “I’ll probably be stuck in the clinic again, knowing my luck.”
“The clinic isn’t that bad.”
“It’s grunt work, and you know it.”
Buffy opened her mouth to protest, then changed her mind, probably deciding it was too early in the morning for a debate. “Okay, you’re right. It isn’t great in there.”
“You’ve never worked a day in the clinic,” Andi said, shooting Buffy a teasing glare. “The residents probably fight over you.”
“It’s not my fault everyone wants me on their service.” Buffy cracked her knuckles and grinned, playfully rolling her eyes at Andi’s unimpressed expression. “Oh, don’t look at me like that… You’re the one dating a resident.”
Andi folded her arms defensively. “I’ve never asked Amber to do me any favours.”
“I’m not suggesting you have. But if anyone’s got an advantage here, it’s definitely you.”
“Please stop bickering,” Cyrus pleaded, gingerly rubbing his temples to ease the pounding in his head. The bright lights of The Pit never failed to give him a headache, especially when he was still in the process of waking up. “I would give anything to be put on radiology today,” he continued groggily. “Somewhere dark and quiet, where I could nap in peace…”
Buffy punched him in the shoulder. “You’re a surgical intern,” she said, as if he needed reminding. “You don’t get to nap.”
“Yeah, you’re right. Sleep is a thing of the past for people like us.”
“Don’t be so dramatic.”
“I can’t help it!” he exclaimed, flapping his arms like a bird caught in a net. “I’m tired. And when I’m tired, I get cranky. And when I’m cranky, I get dramatic. It’s a vicious circle!”
“Well, you better reel it in,” Buffy said, dropping her voice to an urgent whisper. “Dr. Metcalf’s coming over.”
Within seconds, the Chief of Surgery was looming over them, wearing his signature frown as he carefully surveyed the interns with a pair of sharp, judgemental eyes. After a few moments of tense silence, the older man wrinkled his nose and leaned back.
“Don’t you three have someplace to be?” he asked, phrasing the question like a warning.
“Yes, Dr. Metcalf,” Andi and Buffy squeaked in unison, their eyes as wide as dinner plates. When Cyrus didn’t say a word, they both turned to him with questioning looks of horror.
“I don’t actually know whose service I’m on today,” he hurried to explain, his voice trembling slightly.
Dr. Metcalf sighed. “The incompetency of you interns is astonishing.”
“Sorry, sir.”
“Don’t apologise. Just get to work!”
“But –”
“Go with the first resident you see for today. But don’t let this kind of amateur mistake happen again. Do you understand?”
Cyrus gulped. “Yes, sir.”
As soon as Dr. Metcalf walked away, Cyrus allowed himself to breathe again, his wobbly legs giving way as he slumped against Buffy’s side for support.
“I think I just peed myself.”
Andi snorted. “Are you okay, Cy?”
“Yeah. Just traumatised. Nothing major.”
“There you go again with the dramatics,” Buffy said, shoving him off with a shrug. As she was pressing the crinkles out of her scrubs, her eyes landed on something across the room, and a devious smirk appeared on her lips. “Well, I guess that answers the question of whose service you’re on today.”
Before Cyrus could ask any questions, Buffy grabbed his chin and turned his head to the right, pointing his gaze towards a dirty-blond man in dark blue scrubs standing at the opposite end of The Pit, his green eyes scrolling up and down the tablet in his hands.
TJ Kippen. Or, as Buffy and Andi liked to call him, Cyrus’ big fat crush.
“Oh no,” Cyrus said, shaking his head as he took a step backwards, accidentally stumbling into a (thankfully) empty bed. “I can’t work with that guy… No way!”
Andi sidled up to Buffy with a matching smirk. “Dr. Metcalf did tell you to go with the first resident you see. You don’t want to disobey the Chief of Surgery, do you?”
“First of all, he’s a fellow –”
“Still counts.”
“ – and I can just pretend I never saw him,” Cyrus said, frantically scanning The Pit for any signs of another resident. The room was swarming with pale blue scrubs and white coats, but TJ Kippen was the only spot of darkness in sight. It was hopeless. “I can’t spend the entire day one-to-one with him,” Cyrus insisted. “What if he –”
“Winks at you again?” Buffy suggested, biting back a grin as Andi smothered her giggles with the sleeve of her coat. “Oh, the horror!”
“This is serious!”
“He’s only flirting with you,” Andi said, taking a deep breath to compose herself. “Maybe he likes you.”
“He’s a guy!” Cyrus hissed, instant heat rushing to his cheeks as a couple of heads turned their way. As soon as the attention had shifted away from them, he lowered his voice and continued, “A guy’s never flirted with me before. What am I supposed to do?”
“You let him down gently.” Andi flicked a glance at Buffy, her eyebrows raised in a silent question, then turned back to Cyrus with a shrug. “Unless you don’t want to, of course.”
Cyrus blanched. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Well… You do talk about him a lot.”
“No, I don’t!”
“Yes, you do,” Buffy said, scraping her hair into a bun on top of her head. The pager at her hip started buzzing as soon as she dropped her arms, and she answered it without hesitation. “Well, I wish I could stay here and talk some sense into you all morning, but some of us have work to do.” And with that, she pinched his cheek and made her way towards the double doors leading to the rest of the hospital, turning at the last second to give him a thumbs up. “Just go with your gut,” she shouted across The Pit. “You’ll be fine!”
A few minutes later, when the bustling crowds slowly started to thin out, Andi bit her lip and sighed. “I better get going too,” she said, offering Cyrus a sympathetic smile as he desperately clung to her arm. “Don’t worry, Cy. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do.”
Cyrus gulped. “But… What if I don’t know what I want to do?”
“Well, now’s your chance to figure it out.” She patted his hand and kissed his cheek, giving him a moment to gather his nerves, then pulled away. “I’ll see you at lunch, okay?”
“Okay,” he said, a sickly pallor washing his cheeks as he forced himself to nod. “See you later.”
With Andi and Buffy both gone, and the rest of the interns slowly trickling out of The Pit, Cyrus had no choice but to force his jellified legs across the room and formally introduce himself. Besides a few snatched looks across the operation table, and a couple of unexpected winks thrown his way in passing, he and TJ had never really interacted before. Cyrus had always tried to keep his distance, afraid of what he might do if he were left alone with the frustratingly charming paediatrician for too long. But apparently, he couldn’t avoid the other man forever.
“Um… Hello,” Cyrus said as he approached TJ, anxiously wringing his hands together. He could already feel the nervous sweat beading on his skin, and his face was practically starting to smoke as the blush in his cheeks grew darker and darker, almost reaching the tips of his ears by the time TJ finally turned around and acknowledged him.
“Hey,” the fellow greeted him, the corner of his mouth twitching with a smirk of recognition. “Are you on my service today?”
Cyrus cleared his throat. “Not exactly, but… I-I don’t really know where I’m supposed to be, so Dr. Metcalf told me to go with the first resident I saw.”
“But you picked me?”
“No! I-I mean… I saw you first, so…”
TJ’s gaze skipped over him – from the toes of his tennis shoes, all the way up to the unartfully-tousled mop of hair on top of his head – and finally settled on the spot between his eyes. After a moment of consideration, he made a humming noise and took a step closer, his flirtatious smile almost brushing against the shell of Cyrus’ ear.
“Lucky me,” he whispered.
A bolt of attraction pierced through Cyrus’ chest, taking him by surprise. He tore his eyes away from TJ and coughed into his fist, internally begging the heat in his face to finally subside, before it melted the skin off his cheekbones.
“You look nervous,” TJ observed, sounding genuinely concerned. “Are you okay?”
Cyrus nodded a little too enthusiastically. “Yes! I’m fine, I just… I’ve never done, um… p-paediatrics… before.”
“Oh.” TJ tilted his head to the side, probably wondering if Cyrus had deliberately injected as much implication as possible into that sentence, then gave him a friendly clap on the back. “Don’t worry about it,” he said. “I’ll walk you through it.”
“You will?”
“That’s what I’m here for, isn’t it?”
“Right! Yes. Exactly. Um… Thank you, TJ. I mean… Dr. Kippen. Sorry! I didn’t mean to –”
“Calm down,” TJ said, his eyes twinkling with laughter. “You’re Cyrus, right?”
“How do you –”
“I try to familiarise myself with all the interns. Especially the cute ones.”
Cyrus spluttered a nervous laugh and ducked his head, studiously avoiding TJ’s eyes. He hadn’t expected the fellow to be so forward with his flirting. A couple of winks in the corridor was one thing, but face-to-face compliments? He hadn’t prepared himself for that. How was he supposed to respond?
“Relax,” TJ said, as if he could sense the mental breakdown currently taking place inside his mind. “I’m only messing with you.”
For some reason, that didn’t make him feel any better. If anything, it made him feel worse. Disappointed. Did TJ flirt like this with all the interns? Was Cyrus nothing more than an easily-flustered nerd for him to play games with? Or was he completely overthinking this and acting like an idiot? It was probably the latter.
“Sorry,” he said, smiling and exhaling at the same time. “I guess I’m a little on edge.”
TJ grinned. “Little kids aren’t that scary, you know?”
“It’s the parents I’m most worried about.”
“Now that’s a legitimate fear.”
The two of them shared a smile, and Cyrus could feel the blush finally draining from his cheeks. When he wasn’t overanalysing every little thing TJ did, the man wasn’t too difficult to get along with. He was actually pretty nice. And… handsome? There was no point in denying it, especially inside his own head. TJ Kippen was a very handsome man, and Cyrus was at least 60% attracted to him. Maybe even more. Well, definitely more, but that wasn’t the point. Cyrus had never felt so comfortable about his sexuality – a thing only he, Buffy, and Andi were aware of – before. It was refreshing.
“We should probably get a move on,” TJ said, glancing down at his pager. When he looked back up at Cyrus, his usual smirk had fallen into place again. “There’s a broken arm with your name on it.”
“Um… Yay?”
“I love the enthusiasm.“ TJ gave him a quick wink, then spun on his heels and marched towards the doors. With his considerably long legs, it only took him a few strides to reach the other end of The Pit, leaving Cyrus standing by himself with his mouth hanging open. “Follow me, intern!”
Cyrus scrambled after him, the tail of his too-long coat slapping against the backs of his thighs as he rushed across the room. For the next few minutes, he followed TJ through the hospital, slipping through dense crowds and dodging incoming trolleys and wheelchairs as TJ seamlessly glided down the corridors. He clearly knew his way around the hospital, and Cyrus didn’t know whether to be impressed or intimidated.
“You still with me?” TJ asked over his shoulder.
Cyrus shouted a breathless “Yes” in response, almost running straight into the fellow’s back as he came to a sudden stop.
“Here we are.”
“Thank god,” Cyrus muttered under his breath.
TJ turned to him with a smile. He was standing with his arms folded in an authoritative kind of stance, but Cyrus could see the childlike excitement brimming beneath the surface. He obviously adored his job, and he couldn’t wait to share it with someone. Cyrus was just glad he got to be that lucky someone.
“This is this paediatrics ward,” TJ said, tapping a few things on his tablet as he swept Cyrus into a large room covered in stickers, paintings, and colourful posters.
“Wow,” Cyrus said, his heart fluttering at TJ’s responding grin.
“Impressive, right?”
“It’s amazing!”
“All of the paintings were made by the kids,” TJ explained as he guided Cyrus deeper into the room, taking a left at the end of the beds and down a corridor flanked by private rooms, some of them with crudely decorated nameplates hanging on the doors. “Painting seems to relax them, you know? The parents, too.”
Cyrus smiled at the back of TJ’s head, privately admiring the obvious affection the fellow had for his patients. “Looks like there’s a few budding artists in here.”
“Yeah.” TJ huffed a laugh. “Some of these kids are scarily talented. All of them, really, in their own little ways.”
“You really care about them, huh?”
TJ paused, his back still turned to Cyrus. The stiff set of the fellow’s shoulders made him worry he’d said something wrong, but when TJ turned to face him, his eyes were as bright as the radiant smile dimpling his cheeks.
“I do,” he said sincerely. “Working here… I’ve seen some stuff that’s changed me, made me wanna throw in the towel and get out of medicine altogether. It’s not always easy, taking the responsibility of a child’s life into your hands.” He scrubbed a hand over his face, a shuddering breath passing between his fingers. “But then I think of all the kids I’ve saved, all the ones that still pay me visits and send me thank you cards, and it makes everything else worth it. The bad times. The hard times.” He smiled. “Working in paediatrics is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.”
Cyrus swallowed thickly, his fingers twitching with the urge to reach out and comfort the other man. But then TJ blinked, and the unshed tears in his eyes were replaced by a familiar hint of playful arrogance that made Cyrus’ heart stutter with uncontrollable desire.
“Sorry for the sob story,” TJ said, flashing him a smile. “I guess I can’t control myself around cute guys.”
Cyrus spluttered. “Wait, what? Are you telling me that was just an elaborate pickup line?”
“Well, it was true,” TJ said, his lips twitching as he fought back a smirk. “I really do love the kids here, and working in paediatrics really is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. But I need to exaggerate it a little bit for the guys, you know? The sad, brooding doctor act never fails to work wonders.”
“That’s… kinda messed up.”
TJ shook his head. “Nah. The kids here are constantly bugging me about my love life. They’re kinda like my mini wingmen.”
“You’re sick,” Cyrus said, but his words were light with laughter. There was something quite endearing about the thought of TJ’s patients being so invested in finding him a boyfriend. But he still couldn’t ignore the dull pang of jealousy deep down in his stomach when he pictured TJ recycling the same, meaningless lines on a bunch of other guys who weren’t him.
“You say sick, I say smart. Agree to disagree?”
Cyrus rolled his eyes and smiled. “Sure.”
“Great.”
For a moment, neither of them said a word. They just stood there in silence, barely inches apart in the near-empty corridor, and smiled at each other. But then a child started crying a few rooms down, effectively ruining the moment, and they both sprung apart, staring down at the floor and rubbing the backs of their necks like a couple of guilty teenagers.
“So, um…. We should probably stop chatting and actually do some work,” TJ said. There was a light dusting of pink on his cheeks, the closest Cyrus had ever seen the fellow to getting flustered, but other than that, he seemed completely unaffected by the unshifting tension in the air. “You ready to start?”
Cyrus licked his lips and nodded. “Yes.”
“Okay. Let’s go.”
The next few hours passed in a blur of wailing children and anxious parents, all of them with an abundance of questions that Cyrus wasn’t sure how to answer. Luckily, TJ was always by his side, offering his support whenever he noticed Cyrus struggling. When the fellow was totally immersed in his job, and not trying to woo Cyrus with dazzling smiles and wry comments, he was actually a very gentle and patient person, and Cyrus found himself falling deeper and deeper for the other man as the seconds ticked by.
“You’re good with kids,” he blurted out at one point, after TJ had given a little girl a lollipop in exchange for her sitting still for an injection. When TJ looked at him, clearly taken aback by the unexpected compliment, Cyrus felt his face flush. “I mean… You definitely made the right career choice.”
TJ’s surprise softened into fondness, his eyes flicking curiously over Cyrus’ pinkening face. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
“You’re not too bad yourself, you know?”
Cyrus snorted. “Yeah… I’m not so sure about that.”
“Trust me,” TJ said, placing a steady hand on his shoulder. “You’re doing great. More than great.”
Beneath the touch of TJ’s fingertips, Cyrus’ skin sizzled and ached with longing. It seeped into his veins and punctured his heart, oozing a strange combination of fear and excitement that flooded his chest with warmth.
“Thank you, TJ,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
They were standing so close that TJ could probably feel the heat of Cyrus’ blush in the tight space between them. If it weren’t for the little girl happily sucking on the strawberry lollipop in her bed right next to them, Cyrus might’ve done something stupid, like lean forward and kiss the other man. In fact, he might’ve kissed him anyway – privacy be damned – if one the attendings hadn’t suddenly appeared and stolen the fellow away from him.
While TJ was going over some charts with the attending in the corner of the room, occasionally glancing over the elderly woman’s shoulder and meeting his eyes with a secret smile, Cyrus busied himself by smoothing the sheets at the end of the little girl’s bed.
“Enjoying your lollipop?” he asked her, trying his best to ignore the heat of TJ’s distant gaze.
The girl swung her head up and down. “Yep.”
“How’s your arm?”
“Better.”
“Well, you’re braver than I am,” he said. “I used to be terrified of needles when I was your age.”
“I thought you were a doctor?”
Cyrus laughed. “Yeah, well… I’m a doctor in training. But the needles still freak me out a little bit.” He glanced around the room, pretending to make sure no one could hear them, then leaned across the bed and pressed a finger to his lips. “That’s our little secret, okay?”
The girl giggled and nodded, using her lollipop to draw an invisible cross over her heart. “I promise I won’t tell!”
“You’re a star.” Cyrus lifted his hand, and the girl slapped a high-five onto his palm. “Maybe you can teach me how to be as brave as you are someday.”
“Okay!”
When he turned away from the bed, Cyrus was surprised to find TJ watching him from across the room, his eyes lidded softly. Despite the attending still yapping in his ear, TJ’s attention was fixed solely on him, and Cyrus couldn’t seem to wrangle himself free from the fellow’s unwavering gaze. Probably because he didn’t want to. It felt nice to have someone look at him like that, even if it was just a well-rehearsed act for flirting with random men.
It doesn’t feel like an act, a voice whispered in his heart.
Cyrus sucked in a deep breath, still staring intensely at TJ, then allowed himself to smile. It felt dangerous, succumbing to this, but he didn’t care. Especially when TJ returned his smile with a boyish grin that made his eyes dance like scattered sunlight cascading through the trees.
“Are you even listening?” he heard the attending say.
TJ tore his eyes away from Cyrus and cleared his throat. “Sorry, yes. Go on…”
As the attending continued to ramble, TJ flicked one last smirk across the room, and Cyrus felt his heart soar. It was like being back in High School, passing suggestive notes under the desk and grinning like an idiot every time your hands brushed.
“I think Dr. Kippen likes you,” the little girl said, leaning across the bed to poke Cyrus in the arm. Her strawberry-tinted lips were stretched into an impish smile. “Do you like him back?”
Cyrus blushed furiously. “I… I don’t… Um…”
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
“How old are you?”
“Six and three quarters,” the girl said, sitting up straight to make herself seem bigger.
“Okay.” Cyrus reached forward and ruffled her hair. “Well, I don’t think you’re quite old enough to understand –”
“He looks at you the way my daddy looks at my mommy,” the girl interjected, jutting out her chin defiantly. “He never looks at other boys like that. Just you.”
Cyrus felt his stomach drop. “Really?”
“Uh huh.”
“Oh.”
“So?” The girl ripped the lollipop out of her mouth and waved it impatiently in the air. “Do you like him or not?”
Cyrus risked a glance across the room. Even from this distance, he could still appreciate the fellow’s profile – the long slope of his nose; the sandy swoop of his hair; the delicate curve of his smile… There was no denying how handsome TJ was, just as there was no denying his ever-deepening feelings for the other man.
“Yes, I like him,” Cyrus admitted with a sigh of defeat. “I like him a lot.”
~~~~~
By the time Cyrus dragged himself into the interns’ locker room at the end of his shift, it was verging on ten o’clock, the crisp morning light he’d last seen filtering through the boxy window at the back of the room now reduced to a deep, almost inky black. It was a few weeks shy of winter, and the nights were now long, dark, and cold. He was almost tempted to return to the paediatrics ward, where the corridors were bright and warm, and TJ’s dazzling smile was there to keep him company. But after sixteen hours of stitching gashes, poking needles, and splinting broken bones – all the while trying not to spontaneously combust every time TJ so much as looked at him – all he really wanted to do was go home and get some rest.
He was pulling a dark green sweater over his head when someone else came through the door, silencing the idle chatter of the interns dotted around the room. Confused, Cyrus wriggled his head into the light and peered around the lockers, barely containing a gasp when he saw TJ standing in the doorway. The moment their eyes met, the fellow turned to the other interns and swapped his easy smile for an intimidating glare.
“Clear the room,” he said, the commanding tone of his voice leaving no room for argument. “I need to have a word with Goodman.”
It only took a handful of seconds for the interns to follow orders, all of them practically tripping over each other in their haste to get out of the room. When the last of them had disappeared, leaving him and TJ alone, the fellow closed the door and joined Cyrus by the lockers.
“Sorry,” he said. “I just… I wanted to talk to you before you left.”
Cyrus tugged nervously at the hem of his sweater. “Did I do something wrong?”
“What? No! Nothing like that.”
“Oh.”
“I just wanted to tell you how great you were today,” TJ said, stammering slightly as a light blush crept up his neck and blotted his jawline. It was strangely comforting to see a hint of nerves amongst his seemingly limitless supply of confidence; it made him seem more human, and therefore more obtainable. “You should be really proud of yourself.”
“I am,” Cyrus said, nibbling at the shy smile slowly blooming across his face. A beat of silence passed, and he took a step closer to TJ, daring a glance at the other man’s face – so close, it was almost blurred. “I’m glad you came here,” he added, his voice breathy. “I wanted to thank you, for being such a good teacher.”
TJ shrugged. “I mean, it’s my job, so…”
“Just take the compliment,” Cyrus said, rolling his eyes with a teasing smile. “You were great, too.”
For a moment, TJ’s face fell slack, and Cyrus was worried he’d overstepped somehow. But then the fellow swallowed thickly, his throat rippling, and reached out to touch Cyrus’ arm, tugging him forward slowly, cautiously, giving him the option to resist if he wanted to… But saying no to this was the last thing he wanted, so he stayed where he was, eyes falling closed and lips parting slightly, waiting for the warm pressure of TJ’s mouth against his own. And when it finally arrived, the breath hitching in his throat and stars swimming behind his eyelids, it was everything he’d hoped for and more. So much more.
“Wow,” he mumbled as they pulled apart, his hands fisting in the lapels of TJ’s coat. “That was…”
“Unexpected?”
“Yeah.” He laughed, breathless and giddy. “But, also no.”
TJ lifted an eyebrow. “Oh?”
“Well, you have been flirting with me or a while now. I mean, you’re not exactly subtle.”
“You didn’t seem to respond to subtlety,” TJ said, smirking slightly as his fingers brushed the back of Cyrus’ neck, “so I had to kick it up a notch.”
Cyrus grinned. “That’s fair.”
“I’m glad you approve.”
“I do.” He placed a hand on TJ’s chest and chuckled, already leaning in for another kiss. “You really are a good teacher…”
Before their lips could connect for a second time, TJ pulled away, the warmth of his fingers slipping from Cyrus’ neck. “Are we still talking about paediatrics?” he asked, a frown creasing his brow.
“Sure,” Cyrus said, winking clumsily. “Amongst other things.”
He leaned in once again, but TJ rebuffed him, his lips thinning into a grimace as he loosened Cyrus’ grip on his coat. “Hang on,” he said, keeping Cyrus an arm’s length away. “Was… Was that your first kiss with a guy?”
Cyrus winced. “Is that problem?”
“Well, yeah.”
“Y-You said you wanted to teach me,” Cyrus said. He heard the desperation in his own voice and cringed, a distant echo of shame pounding in his ears. He clenched his fists and tried again. “You said you would teach me, and I want to learn.”
“Look.” TJ closed his eyes and inhaled through his noise, like he was trying to keep his temper in check. When he opened them again, Cyrus saw the pity staring back at him and shrank away, embarrassed and ashamed and confused. “You’re cute, Cyrus. And I like you. I really do, but… I’ve done my coming out already. I can’t go through that again, okay?”
“You wouldn’t have to!”
“You’re new to this. I get that. And I’m glad you’re trying to figure yourself out and everything. But I don’t wanna be a part of it.” He shook his head and sighed. “I can’t teach you how to do this.”
“But –”
“You need help with paediatrics? I’m there. But not with this.”
Cyrus hunched his shoulders, a flash of anger slicing through the muddle of emotions storming inside his chest. “So, what? I’m not experienced enough for you? Is that it?”
“It’s not like that.”
“Then what’s wrong with me?”
“Nothing’s wrong with you!” TJ exclaimed, tearing a hand through his hair. The violent swipe of his fingers ruffled the gel-stiffened waves, fluffing them out and sending locks of hair flopping over his forehead. He looked much better like that, despite everything. “I just don’t wanna help you out of the closet, okay? That’s something you’ve gotta do by yourself.”
“I don’t understand.”
“You will,” TJ said grimly. “When you’ve spent years learning to accept yourself, you’ll understand.”
“You have no idea what I’ve been through,” Cyrus said, sniffing back tears.
TJ cocked his head in agreement. “Fair enough. But that doesn’t change anything.” He flitted his eyes over Cyrus’ face once more, his breath catching in hesitation, then finally turned around. With his hand on the door, he flicked a parting glance over his shoulder and sighed. “I’m sorry, Cyrus.”
And just like that, he was gone.
~~ ~~~
“What an ass,” Buffy said, crushing an empty can of soda in her fist with one squeeze. Outside, the rain was screaming and whirling like an angry spirit, and the three of them were waiting it out in the cafeteria. “Do you want me to talk to him? Beat him up for you?”
Cyrus snorted. “Thanks, Buffy… But, no. I just wanna forget about him altogether.”
“You seem really upset,” Andi said softly.
“I guess.”
“You really liked him, huh?”
Cyrus shrugged in frustration. Not at Andi, but at himself. “I can’t believe I let myself fall for someone like TJ Kippen. I mean, he probably flirts with anything that moves! I should’ve known better.”
“This isn’t your fault,” Buffy assured him. “He led you on, Cyrus. We all saw it.”
“I just don’t understand,” he sighed. “I thought he actually liked me. It felt like he did.”
“He manipulated you.”
Andi frowned. “Not necessarily.”
“What are you talking about?” Buffy said, her eyebrows lifting incredulously. “He’s been flirting with Cyrus for weeks, and the moment he had him where he wanted him, he changed his mind. It was all just a game!”
“You don’t know what it’s like to come out,” Andi shot back, making Buffy flinch in surprise. “When Amber asked me out, I was a mess. I’d never been with another girl before. And if it hadn’t been for her patience and understanding –”
“Gross.”
“– we probably wouldn’t be together right now. But it isn’t so easy for everyone.” She turned away from Buffy and took Cyrus’ hand, sweeping a comforting thumb over his knuckles. “You don’t know how difficult it was for TJ to come out. It might not be something he wants to revisit, and you asking him to walk you through the basics of being gay isn’t gonna help that.”
Cyrus balked. “That isn’t what I wanted! I just… I wanted to learn from him because I like him.”
“Exactly,” Andi said. “You wanted him to teach you.”
“No, that’s not –”
“Be honest with yourself, Cy. Try and see things from TJ’s point of view.”
Cyrus thought back to their conversation in the locker room, how quickly TJ’s softness had hardened into rejection the moment he’d realised how inexperienced Cyrus was, the distance in his eyes when he’d turned him down… He didn’t want to be Cyrus’ teacher. That much was obvious. But what if the rest of it had been real? What if Cyrus really was the one in the wrong here?
“Oh my god,” he whispered to himself, the blood draining from his face as realisation dawned on him. “He thought I was using him.”
Andi smiled knowingly. “And you thought he was using you.”
“It was just a misunderstanding!”
“Yep.”
“Hang on a second,” Buffy interrupted, wagging a finger in the air as she struggled to catch up. “I’m confused.”
“Cyrus thought TJ rejected him because he was inexperienced,” Andi explained in a slow, patronising tone of voice. She was clearly enjoying being ahead of Buffy for once. “But TJ actually rejected him because he thought Cyrus was using him to gain experience. Do you get it now?”
Buffy folded her arms and grumbled. “I suppose…”
“Even so,” Cyrus said, his mind still buzzing with a thousand fleeting thoughts, “he didn’t need to turn me down so abruptly. I mean, he didn’t even let me explain!”
“Maybe he was upset?”
“So was I!”
“Cyrus.” Andi squeezed his hand and smiled. “You like him, don’t you? You said it yourself. And he likes you. I know he does. So why are you trying so hard to talk yourself out of this?” She scooted closer across the bench and rested her head on his shoulder. “You can’t let a stupid misunderstanding ruin this for you.”
Cyrus stared down at his hands, a trembling bundle in his lap, and exhaled a shaky breath. “What if you’re wrong?” he asked, the roaring of the rain outside almost swallowing his words. “What if he doesn’t like me because he thinks I’m naïve?”
“Then he would be an ass,” Andi said. “But I don’t think that’s true.”
Buffy groaned. “I hate to admit, but I think she’s right… I’ve seen the way he looks at you. There’s no faking that.”
“I’ve never been with a guy before,” Cyrus whimpered, stating what they both already knew. “What if I’m bad at it? What if I do need someone to teach me?”
“You’re gay,” Buffy said simply. “You don’t need someone to teach you what you already know.”
Before Cyrus could protest any further, one of the doors leading outside opened with a heavy thump, and TJ came stumbling into the cafeteria, thoroughly soaked to the bone. There was water streaming down his face, a sheet of dark blond hair covering his eyes, and his scrubs were completely sodden. Cyrus could do nothing but watch in stunned silence as the fellow shook himself out like a large dog and blindly collapsed into a nearby chair. It was only when he swept the hair out of his eyes that he noticed Cyrus watching him.
“Oh,” he said. “I, um… I’ll go somewhere else –”
“Why were you outside?” Buffy asked him, her expression flitting between amused and repulsed. “You know it’s pouring it down, right?”
“Really? I hadn’t noticed.”
“You’re not very smart for a fellow, are you?”
TJ gave her a tight, acidic smile. “I know you haven’t been here long, intern, but not every ward in this hospital is conveniently connected by corridors.”
Buffy simply glowered in response.
“C’mon, guys,” Andi said, smiling nervously as she attempted to smooth things over. “We’re all adults, aren’t we? I’m sure we can sit here without arguing until the rain stops.”
“Actually, I’m gonna go.” TJ scraped back his chair and got to his feet, the soles of his shoes squeaking against the wet floor. For a brief moment, his eyes landed on Cyrus, but they quickly danced away and returned to the rain lashing against the windows instead. “Wish me luck, I guess.”
Cyrus was standing before he’d even decided to follow him.
“Where are you going?”
“I need to talk to him.”
“But, the rain –”
“A little water’s not gonna hurt me,” he said. “But losing TJ will.”
Buffy gagged. “Okay, I know you’re in love and everything, but there was no need for that level of cheese.”
“Don’t listen to her,” Andi said, beaming as she reached out and squeezed Cyrus’ hand. “Go get him, Cy!”
As soon as he opened the door, the rain hit him like a thousand flecks of ice, instantly raising the hair on his arms and turning his cheeks a deep, stinging shade of pink. But there was no going back now. He could see TJ’s retreating form just ahead, quickly fading in the grey smudge of rain sweeping across his vision. If he didn’t move now, he would lose him, and he wasn’t sure he’d be able find the courage to confront him like this again.
So he ran.
“TJ!” The wind picked up his words and tossed them into the sky, becoming one with the rain and sinking into the wet earth beneath his feet. “TJ, wait!”
With his nose buried in the crook of his arm to shield his face from the storm, he chased after the distant speck of white with all the energy he could muster. By the time his hand latched onto the soggy tail of TJ’s coat, his legs were burning, despite the rain leeching through his scrubs, and he could barely breathe enough air into his lungs to spit out a single word. But, luckily, TJ didn’t shove him away like he’d expected him to. He stood there, quiet and grim, as Cyrus caught his breath, seemingly indifferent to the darkening clouds above their heads, and waited.
“I… I need… I need to talk to you.”
TJ looked away. “You’re only making this harder, Cyrus.”
“But you don’t understand!”
“What don’t I understand?” he asked, spraying Cyrus with droplets of rain as he whipped around to face him. “You’re new to the whole coming out thing. You wanna have some fun, figure yourself out… I get it. But I’m not interested in playing a one-time part in your journey to self-discovery. I want something that’s gonna last, okay? A relationship that means something, for once. And you’re obviously not looking for that kind of thing, so –”
“Don’t tell me what I’m looking for!” Cyrus yelled. “Just because I’m inexperienced, doesn’t mean I’m ignorant. I’ve known what I want for a very long time. And for some bizarre reason, you happen to be it!”
“Cyrus –”
“I fell in love with one of my best friends when I was thirteen. I’ve known I was gay for almost half my life. So don’t you dare stand there and accuse me of not understanding the struggles of learning to accept yourself, because I’ve lived it too! And just because I’ve never been with another guy before, doesn’t mean I’m not sure of who I am, or what I want!”
“Okay –”
“And maybe you don’t want the responsibility of being my first boyfriend. Maybe you’re scared it will be awkward and difficult and too much work. I understand that. But that doesn’t give you the right to jump to conclusions and ignore me!”
At this point, TJ was smirking, and Cyrus could feel his anger rising and rising, like a pot of water close to boiling over.
“Are you done yet?” the fellow asked, taking a step towards him.
Cyrus shoved him away and growled. “No, I’m not done yet! Do you have any idea what you’ve done to me? I’ve spent nearly thirteen years hiding from who I really am, terrified of getting hurt all over again. I’ve been hiding for so long that I forgot what it felt like to be me.” He shook his head, half-choking on a sob. “And then you kissed me, and I felt like I existed again.”
TJ stopped smirking.
“I don’t know what this means to you. I don’t know if you like flirting with me, and that’s it, or if you actually wanna be with me. Either way, it doesn’t matter… I was a goner the moment you winked at me.” He shrugged his shoulders and laughed. It felt good to be honest. It felt like the rain -  crazy and reckless and real. “I’ll admit I’m inexperienced. And awkward. And I tend to say the wrong things at the wrong times.” He smiled. “But I’m also nice. And loyal. And my friends think I’m a catch. So if you still wanna turn me down, that’s fine. But if you decide to give this a chance, you won’t regret it, because –”
The rest of his words were swallowed by a kiss.
Cyrus made a little squawk of surprise as TJ’s lips melted against his own, all of his pent up frustration seeping out of him within seconds, leaving him weightless and airy, elastic and free… He clutched onto TJ’s shoulders and whimpered slightly, losing himself to the melodic whoosh of the rain as TJ pulled him impossibly closer.
“I didn’t think you liked me,” he mumbled between kisses, gently tucking the hair behind Cyrus’ ears. “I thought… I thought –”
“I know.”
“I’m sorry, Cyrus.”
“Hey.” He cupped TJ’s face and pressed their foreheads together, breathing him in. “You have nothing to apologise for. I’m the idiot who made you think you were nothing more than a practice boyfriend.”
“Boyfriend?”
Cyrus froze, his face flushing darkly. “I didn’t mean –”
“If you tell me you didn’t mean to call me your boyfriend, I’m gonna be really upset.”
“Wait, you… You want me to call you that?”
“It has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?” TJ tilted his head to the side, revealing the wicked slice of a smile lifting the corner of his mouth. “Like you said, I’ve been flirting with you for a while now. And this is what usually comes after the flirting.”
“What is this exactly?”
TJ shrugged, the confidence in his smile not quite reaching his eyes. “Me asking you out?”
“Really?”
“Well, yeah. Unless you don’t –”
“I just chased you through a storm in nothing but scrubs and poured out my heart to you like we’re in a Hallmark movie, and you honestly don’t think I wanna be your boyfriend?”
“Um –”
“You’re such an idiot,” he laughed, palming the back of TJ’s neck and kissing him softly. All around them, the sky shivered and wept, bathing them in tears of joy as they clung onto each other for dear life, laughing and hugging and basking in the rain.
~~~~~
Cyrus tugged the fleece blanket over his shoulders and tucked it under his chin, shuddering with relief as the heat pulsing from the radiator slowly filled the on-call room. He could still feel the occasional drop of rain rolling down his spine, but at least he could also feel his toes again. And the hot cocoa TJ had placed in his hands a few minutes ago was quickly thawing his icy palms as well.
“Thank you,” his said, lips trembling as he took a tentative sip from the steaming cup. The burn was delicious.
TJ wrapped an arm around his shoulders and pulled him closer, until he was practically sitting on his lap. Despite being equally soaked, TJ seemed to radiate warmth at all times, and Cyrus couldn’t resist snuggling against his boyfriend’s – yes, boyfriend’s – chest.
“You smell like rain,” he mumbled.
“So do you.”
“Yeah. It’s quite nice, actually.”
He closed his eyes, ear pressed against the steady beating of TJ’s heart. The sudden shift from freezing to cosy was taking its toll, making him feel sluggish and loose-lipped. He had no idea what he was going to say until the words tumbled out of his mouth.
“Did you only kiss me to shut me up?”
TJ chuckled. “How could I not kiss you when you were being so damn cute?” He threaded his fingers through Cyrus’ hair, gently undoing all the frazzled knots left behind by the rain. “But I’m sorry for interrupting your Hallmark speech. What else were you gonna say?”
“I was more or less done,” Cyrus admitted. “I was just gonna reassure you that you wouldn’t have to go through the drama of coming out all over again.”
TJ sighed, shifting on the bed so Cyrus was laying across his legs, looking up at him. “I’m sorry for everything I said the other day,” he said quietly, his fingers resuming their careful exploration of Cyrus’ hair. “I just… I don’t wanna be involved in another shame spiral, you know?”
“I’m not spiralling,” Cyrus told him. “And I’m definitely not ashamed.”
“I know.”
“I’m not afraid, either.”
“It’s okay if you are.”
“I’m not.” He reached up and touched TJ’s face, tracing the fine bones beneath his lightly-stubbled cheeks. “You’re so beautiful.”
TJ grinned. “Wow, you’re a sap.”
“Too much?”
“No. Definitely not.”
“Good, because I’m just getting started…”
When their lips were mere inches apart, TJ’s pager started buzzing at his hip, and Cyrus was caught between laughter and tears as he moved off the fellow’s lap so he could check it. All he wanted to do was stay in this tiny room, with the lights low and the rain pattering against the window, and kiss his boyfriend. But when there were little kids with scraped knees and poorly tummies waiting for his assistance, Cyrus didn’t mind letting him go. This was the life they’d both chosen for themselves, after all.
“I’m sorry,” TJ huffed, already half-standing. “Duty calls.”
Cyrus gave him a sleepy smile. “It’s okay.”
“You gonna stay here and rest for a while?”
“Mmm…”
The next thing he knew, TJ was gently prying the half-empty cup from his hands and lowering his head onto a pillow. Cyrus could hear the smile in his voice as he leaned over and kissed the sensitive spot behind his ear, whispering goodbye.
“I’ll come find you later, okay?”
“Okay.”
“I’ll miss you.”
“Now who’s being a sap?”
“Me,” TJ said simply, planting one last kiss on Cyrus’ forehead as he got to his feet.
Before he could leave, Cyrus grabbed onto his elbow and ushered him closer. TJ obliged with a fond little smile, crouching down beside the bed, and allowed Cyrus to kiss him on the lips once more.
“I’ll miss you too,” Cyrus murmured softly, bumping their noses together.
After a few more parting kisses (with Cyrus promising each one would be the last) TJ managed to escape the on-call room, pausing briefly in the doorway to wave Cyrus goodbye and mockingly blow him a kiss. Joke or not, Cyrus still pretended to catch it mid-air and press it against his mouth, to which TJ blushed like a schoolboy and walked backwards into the wall, before stammering a final goodbye and disappearing down the corridor. Cyrus stared at the spot where the fellow had once stood until his eyelids began to droop closed.
He’d barely been asleep for five minutes when the door slammed open again, no doubt leaving a mark where it collided with the wall. His eyes sprang open as he sat bolt upright, only to find Buffy and Andi standing in the middle of the room, pointing at him accusingly with their mouths gaping open.
“You both look ridiculous,” he said, collapsing back against his pillow.
“We saw you kissing TJ in the rain!” Buffy exclaimed.
Andi nodded in agreement. “Yes! We saw you through the window! Cyrus –”
“Okay, okay… We kissed. What’s the big deal?”
“We’ve been looking for you everywhere!”
“Here I am.”
“Where’s TJ?”
“Or should we say, where’s your boyfriend?”
Cyrus shrugged. “Well, considering TJ and I are dating now, I guess you should say that.”
All at once, Buffy and Andi were crowded around him, jumping on the bed and shaking his arms as they bombarded him with a thousand overlapping questions. He didn’t say a word, just sat there and soaked in the attention with a smug little smile, his thoughts slipping back to TJ. The dirty-blond in the dark blue scrubs. The paediatrics fellow. His boyfriend.
And for the first time in almost thirteen years, he actually felt like himself again.
The End.
monsters aren’t real (part two)
a part two of my pervious Sacheang piece
065: “i’m sorry sweetie, school isn’t optional.”
tw for cursing I guess...
request me!
Chaeyoung sighed as she flicked through the postcard section at the dingy gas station she had sealed refuge in. She sighed when she realized she hated all of them, they all looked like stock photography of the same building or had long biblical quotes Chaeyoung didn’t even want to read. She looked out the window, only to find the snow still falling at the same pace as it had earlier. She really just wanted to get home, she had been gone for the last two weeks and she was exhausted and wanted a long shower and a kiss from her girls before falling asleep cuddled with Sana by the fire place.
But Sana would murder her if she tried to drive in this weather. She had already sent a text to her girlfriend explains she was stranded thirty minutes from town in the sketchy gas station they had made out in once before Nico came around. Sana responded with a simple, “stay safe, I love you” text. She sighed, her phone only had about twelve percent battery left and her coffee tasted like shit. She took another sip of the cheap coffee and winced as it burned down her throat.
She glanced around the gas station once more, there was only one other patron stuck with her and a bored teenager who had his face buried into a magazine. Chaeyoung knew he was reading a porn magazine underneath, he had a flush on his cheeks and he really wasn’t being discreet and he didn’t look the type to be into cosmopolitan. She knew the kid, everyone in town knew each other, and if she wanted she could tell his parents about his risqué endeavors. But she decided against it, he was just a bored curious teenager. She was the same way at his age.
The other patron, a man looking to be in his early fifties had an unlit cigarette hanging out of his mouth and the distinct smell of smoke really was triggering Chaeyoung. She promised Sana to stop, but dear lord she could use a cigarette right now. But she wouldn’t give in. If she did, she wouldn’t stop. She feared she would get kicked out of the house, Sana hated the smell and Nico had asthma. She settled for digging out some peppermint gum from her pocket and chewing it aggressively, trying anything to get rid of the temptation. It helped distract her, and Chaeyoung felt a bit less on edge than she had a moment ago.
After finding a spot to sit in the corner of the dirty gas station floor Chaeyoung unlocked her phone. Her service was spotty, and just sending a text to Sana had taken nearly twenty minutes, so she didn’t expect an answer anytime soon. She settled for scrolling through old photos saved on her phone, she didn’t have to connection to do much else and she wasn’t going to feed her subway surfers addiction when her battery was so low as it was.
Her camera roll had a lot of pictures of Sana, and a lot of pictures of Nico. Her all time favorite would always be the one taken right after they found out they had been approved to be Nico’s guardians. Sana had this huge smile as she held the baby, still wrapped in the same cloth they had found her in, and Chaeyoung melted just a bit more every time she saw it.
They didn’t have Nico’s blanket anymore, it had turned into evidence long ago and was cursed to sit in a Korean police station collecting dust for all eternity. She was surprised Nico still had it when the photograph was taken, there was very clearly blood stains on the pink cloth. Chaeyoung pushed those thoughts away, they were far far away from Korea. Far far away from whatever killed Nico’s real parents and far far away from their problems. Nico didn’t know yet, she knew she was adopted but she didn’t know about her mothers complex history. Chaeyoung hoped it stayed that way. Nico had learned too much about their dark sides recently.
Chaeyoung groaned and took another agonizing sip of the supposed coffee. She needed to get out of that gas station. She glanced at the snow once more, it had lightened a bit and Chaeyoung figured it would be fine for the short ride home. She sighed in relief before cruising herself for just now realizing she had to pee. She debated holding it, but realized she could get stuck in the snow and if she was going to freeze to death she didn’t want the police to find her and she had peed herself before death. She threw the cheap coffee in the trash the first opportunity she got, taking satisfaction in the sound of the heavy cup hitting the bottom of the trash bin.
She found the disgusting bathrooms stuffed into the back of the restaurant and was bombarded with memories of the time her and Sana had made out with each other here. They were young teenagers and the person on duty had left to smoke and they couldn’t hold themselves back. Chaeyoung had been willing to go all the way right there in the bathroom but Sana had been horrified by the gas station bathroom and insisted Chayeoung take her home if she wanted any action. Chaeyoung had done so without a second thought, of course.
Chaeyoung felt the hairs stand up on the back of her neck when she heard a ruffling noise behind her. She turned only to find nothing behind her. The boy at the counter looked ready to cream his pants and the older man was playing with the slots machine. Chaeyoung sighed and decided to let it go, opening the door to the bathroom and going inside. They had replaced the door, at least from what Chaeyoung had remembered. She heard the sound again, this time from outside and she cursed because her pants were halfway down and she had to pee. She decided to pee as fast as she could before washing her hands with water and running out of them bathroom, her hand on her firearm tactfully concealed in her jacket. She went through the fire exit and looked around. There was nothing there. Chaeyoung exhaled on relief.
But she froze when she heard the sound once again. She pulled her pistol out and cocked it, scanning the area as best she could. Everything happened too fast as the beast kept out at her. Chaeyoung shot it down mercilessly. The beast let out one final cry after her clean shot to the head before Chaeyoung looked at it. It was a young one, probably too stupid to realize that it was making that much noise. She looked at the body, it’s blood leaking onto the snow dying the beautiful white snow an ugly brown.
She picked up the thing carelessly before throwing it into the dumpster, closing the lid and hoping the trash came sometime in the next twenty four hours. She grabbed a handful of snow to cover up the colored snow and she dated off her hands before looking at the open fire door, praying to god no one heard the gunshot. She didn’t want to risk going back inside, so she went around the side of the building and got on her bike parked in the corner of the lot. She started it up, the snow sticking to her jacket as she climbed on. She let out a silent prayer before driving out of the parking lot.
“Son Chaeyoung!” Chaeyoung sneezed as Sana pulled her inside the house. “I thought I told you to stay put!” “Couldn’t stand to be there any longer love,” Chaeyoung shrugged after pulling off her thick coat, pulling her arms close to her as shivered. “I got here in one piece didn’t I?” “You could have died asshole,” Sana putted, wrapping the blanket she had previously wrapped around herself around Chaeyoung. “Go take a hot shower before you get sick.” “Babe?” Chaeyoung asked tentatively. “Are you mad?” “No,” Sana pouted.
“Then can you make me some hot chocolate?” “No,” Sana pouted even more. “Nico’s bedtime is in an hour and if you get to have hot chocolate she gets to have hot chocolate and you can see where I’m going with this.” “Can’t she stay up late? She’s in preschool it’s not like she’ll have any makeup work if she skips a day.” Chaeyoung wrapped her arms around Sana.
“Your teaching her to be a delinquent.” Sana pushed Chaeyoung away. “Shower, then we’ll talk.” “Okay,” Chaeyoung sighed. “I love you, and I missed you." “Yeah yeah,” Sana rolled her eyes. “I love you too, but I can’t kiss you if you die from hypothermia.” “Umma!” “Nico baby I told you to stay in the other room-”
“Oh hello princess,” Chaeyoung smiled and bent down so Nico could hug her. “Or should I say monkey?” Nico giggled as Chaeyoung noticed she was wearing her sock monkey pajamas. “How was the trip?” “It was fine Nico, thank you for asking,” Chaeyoung pecked Nico’s cheek. “Nico baby Umma needs to take a bath, she was out in the cold and she might get sick if she doesn’t.” Sana informed the child. Nico hugged Chaeyoung tighter and Chaeyoung laughed. “Umma don’t be cold!” Nico chanted as she hugged Chaeyoung tighter.
“I’m not cold anymore,” Chaeyoung smiled and kissed Nico’s cheek. “Thank for that monkey.” “See Mommy? Umma’s not cold anymore, because of magic hugs.” Nico turned to Sana.
“Yeah Sana, magic hugs cure everything.” Chaeyoung smiled at her girlfriend.
“Stop being cheeky, both of you,” Sana groaned, fighting off a grin on the corner of her lips.
“Umma,” Nico looked up at Chaeyoung’s face. “You have something on your shirt.” Chaeyoung looked down and found exactly what Nico was talking about. She groaned when she saw the dark brown substance on her white sweater. It would never come out, and she liked this sweater. “Was there another one?” “It wasn’t anywhere close baby, they can’t hurt you,” Chaeyoung whispered reassuringly.
“You promise?” Nico held her tiny pinky out and Chaeyoung nodded.
“I swear princess.” Chaeyoung intertwined her and Nico’s pinkies before standing up and facing Sana.
“Chaeyoung go take a shower, Nico why don’t we finish watching our movie okay?” Sana told the two.
“Mommy,” Nico whined. “Nico,” Sana mimicked. “Movie or early bed time kiddo.” “Fine, movie,” Nico grumbled, releasing her grip on Chaeyoung.
“I’ll be down soon princess okay?” Chayeoung smiled at Nico. “I seriously think your mad at me,” Chaeyoung commented once Nico had run off. “I’m sorry for driving home in the snow baby. I missed you so much and it wasn’t even that far. I swear.” “Your bike Chae, I saw it when you pulled in, the tires look destroyed.” Sana sighed. “What happened?” “Since when do you know so much about motorcycles?” “Chaeyoung I rode them for like three years.” Sana answered casually.
“Really?” Chaeyoung asked in shook. “Why didn’t you tell me? And why are you now driving a car?” “Well I quit when I moved to Korea, I had mine in Japan and my father wouldn’t let me take it to Korea because he was mad at me for choosing to go study there for my last two years of college. Anyway this isn’t about me, what happened?" “Don’t worry about it babe, the roads were really rough in Arizona okay? I couldn’t control it, the road ate up my tires.” Chaeyoung offered Sana a weak smile. “Your telling the truth?” “Scout’s honor,” Chaeyoung told Sana in English.
“What does that mean?” Sana asked as she arranged the blanket draped over Chaeyoung’s shoulders.
“I don’t know, one of the boy’s in town told it to me and I’ve had it in my head ever since.” Chaeyoung laughed. “But I think it means I’m telling the truth.” “Alright fine,” Sana sighed. “I was just scared. I’m sorry for being a bit strict.” “It’s okay baby, I know. You weren’t being that strict, I could tell it was because you care.” Chaeyoung sighed, rubbing Sana’s arms reassuringly. “I love you.” Chaeyoung leaned forward and kissed the taller girl’s lips and Sana instantly melted into the kiss.
“I love you too, but please go shower your lips are freezing.” Sana muttered after they pulled away. “I will,” Chaeyoung laughed. “I’ll be down in a bit,” Chaeyoung winked at Sana before running upstairs and taking a quick bath before returning downstairs. She smiled when she smelled Sana’s peppermint hot chocolate. She found her girlfriend and child in the kitchen and she was quickly handed her world’s best umma (she had written Umma in herself in messy handwriting with a permanent marker, and Chaeyoung wouldn’t dare smudge it)  mug Nico had given her last mother’s day. She laughed as she and Nico got matching whipped cream mustaches and Sana laughed with them as she cleaned up. They watched another movie before Nico came down from her sugar high and fell asleep against Chaeyoung. Chaeyoung carried her to bed before returning to Sana.
“Where was it this time?” Sana asked once she returned and Chaeyoung felt the atmosphere change.
“Behind the gas station,” Chaeyoung sighed. “It looked young too.” “There’s been more and more of them around here recently. Two in three months is a new record.” Sana sighed. “And you’ve had to go out on more and more missions…” “Mina’s already looking into it, she said not to worry so I’ve decided to hold off on my worrying for now.” Chaeyoung sighed. “Hopefully it doesn’t mean anything.” “Yeah, I hope so too.” Sana muttered as she hurried herself in Chaeyoung’s chest.
“Nico, baby, it’s time for school,” San whispered to the sleeping child.
“I don’t wanna go,” Nico rolled away from Sana in her bed.
“I’m afraid school’s not optional love,” Sana muttered before reaching down and lifting gate child out of bed. “Let’s get dressed okay?” “Fine,” Nico groaned as Sana set her down and changed her out of her outfit.
“You really are a princess aren’t you?” Sana teased. Nico yawned and rubbed her eyes as Sana buttoned up a pink sweater after dressing her in a white dress and pink leggings. “All done baby, I have a pastry for you downstairs, Umma went out early and got one for you.” Nico nodded and clung to Sana as she carried her downstairs. “Chaeyoung can you go get Nico’s white coat for me?” Sana asked her girlfriend once she got downstairs, Chaeyoung nodding and running off to the coat closet to pull out Nico’s warm white jacket. Nico was still half asleep as Sana buttoned up her coat before handing her a chocolate chip pastry to nibble off of. Nico took small bites and slowly became more awake as Sana ran to grab her school stuff. “Do you want to take your skates or do you want me to drive you?” Sana asked, glancing at Nico’s tiny rollerblades. It was a trend in their town, for the children to get to school on either rollerblades or bikes. Sana kind of hated it, Nico was way too young to be messing around on rollerblades. She would always insist on holding her hand and Nico hated it but Sana wasn’t risking anything.
“Walk.” Nico yawned. “With Umma?” Nico asked.
“I’ll go ask for you okay?” Sana kissed Nico’s cheek before leaving her to fiddle with her shoes at the entrance. “Chae?” She peaked in on the woman who was sipping her coffee in the kitchen. “Nic wants you to walk to school with her.” “Okay,” Chaeyoung sighed and put her coffee down. Sana smiled at her before going back to the little girl eating small bites of her pastry. “Come on Nico, let’s go.” Sana smiled at the little girl and held her hand.
“Mommy?” Nico asked. “My water?” “Yes baby girl, I filled up your water bottle last night and put ice in it this morning like you like.” Sana smiled at the child as she opened the door. As they left the house, Nico nervously looked around their yard. Chaeyoung caught on instantly and held onto Nico’s other hand.
“No monsters yeah?” Chaeyoung smiled at the little girl.
“Yeah.” Nico muttered, taking a deep breath out before offering Chaeyoung a small smile. Chaeyoung grinned at Nico before yawning, attracting Sana’s attention. “Nico-ya can you be a good girl and finish your breakfast for mommy?” Sana asked before leaving a couple kisses on the sleepy baby’s face. She pulled away and looked into her daughter’s eyes. “I’m full,” Nico pouted. “Do you want to save it for later?” Nico nodded tiredly and Sana sighed at the child before prying the pastry out of her grubby hands and wrapping it in a napkin before sipping it up in Nico’s bag.
“Mommy?" “Yes Nico?” “I love you,” Nico gave her mother a small grin. “I love you too baby,” Sana gave Nico a small smile before fixing her hair and brushing any imaginary dirt off her coat and dress. The rest of their walk was quiet, and Chaeyoung really appreciated some peace with her family, for once.
“Umma,” Nico called Chaeyoung’s attention when they stopped at a cross walk. “Uppy.” Nico made grabby hands towards Chaeyoung and Chaeyoung instantly picked her up, being mindful of Nico’s dress and leggings. Once they reached Nico’s school she was nearly asleep in Chaeyoung’s arms. Chaeyoung whispered for Nico to wake up before putting her down and Nico rubbed her eyes.
“Can you walk Nico to class?” Chaeyoung asked. She hated that they couldn’t go together, but their town that was oh so keen on each others lives didn’t know much about their family relationship. Chaeyoung had been insistent when Nico started school that they be secretive about Nico’s parental situation. She had been this way since they moved to the town. It was a sleepy town not far from the US border with Canada, and it was one of those towns where most of them grew up together, and knew absolutely everything about each other. They weren’t good with change, Chaeyoung had quickly noticed. They were the only Asian family in the small towns, and she didn’t even want to think about the amount of times she had to explain the distinction between Korean and Japanese to the townsfolk. They weren’t rejected because of their ethnitiscites,  but since they were the only ones, things got a bit overwhelming every once and awhile. They had to have Japanese and Korean ingredients delivered all the way from the city over an hour away just to have the correct ingredients for any kind of Japanese or Korean meal. Chaeyoung choose it because there was no way anyone knew them or recognized the last names. But she hated it because it made them feel different. She always worried about Nico being the only Asian girl in her class, but she hadn’t experienced any kind of racial questioning. She was thankful for that, but she knew if they sprang the gay thing things would end less pleasantly.
Chaeyoung didn’t know a single person in town besides her Sana and Nico who didn’t attend weekly church services. She had never been to one, so she wasn’t entirely sure of where the pastor stood on LGBT, but considering she had never met another LGBT couple in town she knew it was unlikely that the town looked positively on love like her and Sana’s. Especially since they used to get suspicious looks from the people in town. She supposes that the townsfolk gave up on them, writing them off as close friends who just happened to have a child together. Chaeyoung was barely around anyway, it didn’t really matter.
Nico had been told to hide her two moms early on. She had been confused for awhile, but they had treated it like a cute family secret and Nico loved secrets. They were worried for father’s day, it would be Nico’s first father day at her preschool, but they decided to figure it out then.
“Sure, you want to wait for me on that bench?” Sana pointed to a bench with chipped paint and a thin layer of snow.
“Yes, I’ll see you in a bit, have fun at school princess.” Chaeyoung smiled at the little girl.
“Bye bye Umma,” Nico smiled back before wrapping herself around Sana’s legs tightly. Sana laughed and reached down to pick her up, before shooting Chaeyoung one last loving look before entering Nico’s school. Chaeyoung sighed, her breath creating a puff of white smoke in the frigid air. She couldn’t wait to go home and sleep some more, she had missed out on a lot of sleep on her trip. But she couldn’t sleep well without Sana, so it would be pointless for her to go home early. She tilted her head back to look at the sky, it looked like it would start snowing again soon. She really hoped it didn’t, but decided she wouldn’t mind getting trapped at home for awhile all that much.
xx
“Chaeyoung can you answer the phone?” Sana asked from the other room. Chaeyoung groaned before reaching for Sana’s phone and answering the loud ringing.
“Hello?” She grunted out in English.
“Is this Miss Sana Minatozaki?” The person on the other line asked in English. “I’m her, friend, Chaeyoung, I can pass on a message if you need to speak to Sana.” Chaeyoung ran her hand through her short hair.
“Oh well Miss Chaeyoung can you tell her she’s needed at her daughter’s school immediately.” “Why?” Chaeyoung’s heart sank.
“If your just her friend, than it’s not your place to know Miss Chaeyoung.”
“Well I’m Nico legal guardian too so I deserve to know about my god damn daughter.” Chaeyoung muttered frustratingly.
“Hold on one moment please well we verify this information.” Chaeyoung groaned, finally recognizing the voice. It was Nico’s school’s receptionist. She remembered her from the open house Sana had forced her to go to before Nico started school. She had never liked her, she was condescending and proud of her son to the point it was annoying as hell, especially since her son hadn’t really done anything. And her son was a brat too, Sana had told her that he would sometimes bully Nico by stealing her food or tugging on her hair. Nico had told Sana that in confidence, and from what she knew their daughter had begged Sana with tears in her eyes to not tell anyone. Chaeyoung still couldn’t figure out why Nico wanted to be so secretive, but she found herself contemplating turning in the little brat multiple times. “Are you Son Chaeyoung?” “Yeah, I’m the only Chaeyoung in town,” Chaeyoung rolled her eyes.
“Well if you must know, your daughter got into a fight today.” “She didn’t,” Chaeyoung muttered. “There’s no way, she knows fighting is bad.” “Well she hit another child.” The woman responded and Chaeyoung could hear the hate dripping from her tone. “My son to be exact…” The lady muttered under her breath. “When will you be available to come speak with the principal about the incident?” “Sana and I can be there in ten minutes,” Chaeyoung sighed before hanging about. “Sana!” She called her girlfriend into the room. Sana peaked in and Chaeyoung grinned at Sana’s messy hair. “Appearently Nico finally snapped and slapped some sense into the Smith kid.” Chaeyoung couldn’t fight the grin on her face.
“What?” “Nico slapped-”
“I know what you said, but what the hell Chaeyoung? This is your fault I hope you know that.” Sana groaned as she came fully inside the room the collect a pair of pants to put on under her large sweater.
“How is this my fault?” “You’ve been telling her to hit back for months.” “I have not, I’ve just been telling her that what he was doing to her was wrong and maybe she should do something about it, I was referring to talking to an adult not hitting the kid back.” Chaeyoung groaned. “Whatever, we’ll talk about this later.” “Yeah, we will,” Sana sighed and shed her sweater for a nice professional blouse. “You better not be the reason she gets kicked out of the only preschool in town.” Sana muttered under her breath and Chaeyoung took a deep breath in to ignore her urge to protest her girlfriend’s statement.
xx
“Thank you for coming Miss Minatozaki… and Miss Son.” Chaeyoung heard the tone in the woman’s voice and she wanted to go off on this woman but Sana held her arm to hold her back.
“What did Nico do exactly?” Sana asked politely.
“Well, she slapped my son right on his cheek, hard enough to leave a mark, completely unprompted!” The woman explained. “You need to have better control over your daughter.” “She’s never behaved like that at home, I’m sure this is all just a misunderstand Mrs Smith, I’m very sorry to hear about your son I hope he will be okay,” Sana’s tone seemed perfectly sincere but Chaeyoung knew her girlfriend well enough to know that underneath the polite exterior Sana was practically fuming with rage.
“He will be thankfully, but he was quite hard to calm down, your daughter is sitting in front of the principal’s office waiting for you reflecting on what she did,” The woman grunted as she pointed to the door behind her. “She insisted to talk to you two alone first before me and my son will come in and we can decide how to punish Nico for her violent actions.” “Thank you,” Sana sighed at the woman before pulling Chaeyoung down the lit hallway. They turned the corner and found Nico sitting on a red bench, her coat balled up on her shoulders as tears dripped down her cheeks. Sana’s grip loosened on Chaeyoung and Chaeyoung knew her girlfriend was fighting the urge to go soft for the crying child. “Nico.” Sana called Nico’s attention. Nico instantly looked up at her and left of the chair, leaving her jacket on the floor as she hugged Sana. “I’m sorry mommy, I’m so sorry.” Nico sobbed. “It’s just he hit me and I was scared because you and Umma weren’t there to protect me and I just, I’m sorry.” “Wait, hold up, he hit you first?” Chaeyoung bent down to Nico’s level and looked into the crying girl’s face. Nico nodded and rubbed her eyes.
“Where baby girl?” Sana asked softly, her anger melting away. Nico pointed to her arm and Sana pulled up her sweater sleeve to reveal a nasty bruise on her forearm. Sana looked at Nico pitifully before examining the bruise. “Does it hurt?” Nico nodded and Sana placed the softest kiss to the bruise. “How did this happen?” “We were all playing and then Will came up to me and called me a mean name because I couldn’t tag anyone because my chest hurt again and I couldn’t run and then he hit me when the teacher wasn’t looking.” Nico sobbed more. And then I hit him because I was scared.” “Nico…” Sana whispered.
“Nico your not in trouble,” Chaeyoung nearly growled. “You did nothing wrong, what he did was very very wrong.” Chaeyoung nodded, trying not to be consumed by blind rage. Sana hugged the still crying child close to her and Nico climbed into her lap. Sana whispered loving phrases, ignoring the fact they were in the middle of a hallway and they had to go see the principal immediately. Once Nico was calm, Sana gave her a peck on the check and helped Nico pull her sleeve down over the discolored skin.
“Let’s go tell the principal your story, it’s okay Nico, even though it’s bad to hit people and you should never do it again, it was a natural response and not your fault, just know better next time okay?” Sana whispered as she stood with Nico in her arms. “Chaeyoung,” Sana whispered to the woman next to her. “Don’t.” “But Sana, I can’t-”
“Your not getting her kicked out remember?” Sana whispered harshly against Chaeyoung’s ear.
“Yes ma’am.” Chaeyoung sighed and turned towards Nico. The girl was exhausted from all her crying and she held on tightly to Sana. She would fight to the bone for her child, and the principal and that awful woman were about to realize it.
xx
“Son Chaeyoung!” Sana yelled, puling Chaeyoung away from the entrance of the car and around the side of the building, Nico stumbling behind them. “I told you not to go off on her and what did you do?” “Look Sana you heard it from Nico herself, Will is a little dick and his behavior was not right!” Chaeyoung yelled back. “You saw what he did to Nico! He deserved to be punished!” “I agree with you but you don’t have to call his mother a bitch to her face! And you didn’t have to call the principal a weak pussy either!” “They don’t speak Korean they had no idea what I said!” Chaeyoung argued.
“Chaeyoung Nico knows what your saying, your setting a terrible example for her, she can’t just call people names in Korean because they don’t understand them when she gets mad she has to learn to handle situations correctly!” Nico, who was listening to her mothers fight, put her hands on her ears as tears welled up in her eyes.
Her mothers never fought like this. She didn’t like it. She really didn’t like it. She wanted to be anywhere but there. She looked at her mothers, who were very engaged in their argument before looking at the large forrest in front of her. She wanted to get away from the fighting, she wanted to get away from the screaming. She didn’t hesitate to run to the large forrest, ducking behind a tree the moment she could. She sighed in relief after the shouting died down when she went deeper into the forrest. She sat down on a small rock, pulling her coat tighter. She was cold, but at least it was quiet. She looked around the snowy forrest, her little imagination being sent into overdrive at the scenery. She loved the forrest, when she went on hikes with her mothers and they would help her look for fairies were some of the best times of her life. Her Umma always spotted the most fairies, and she was always jealous because she never found any. But her Umma would always draw up sketches later and give them to her and Nico loved them. She smiled as she saw a tree rustle without the help of the wind. Maybe it was her turn to finally see a fairy.
“Chaeyoung, I get that you were mad, I’m mad too, but all I’m saying is you needed to restrain yourself more. You can call people a bitch and a pussy all the time when we’re at home alone in our bedroom, but doing it in front of them and our daughter is too much,” Sana’s tone soften as she let out a sigh of frustration.
“I’m sorry, I know my self control is terrible, I-I shouldn’t have done that. You were right Sana. Why did I even arguing with you? You were the one that was right.” Chaeyoung sighed in defeat.
“Hey, we can work on your self control okay?” Chaeyoung nodded when Sana wrapped her arms around her.
“I’m sorry Sana, and I’m sorry Nico.” Chaeyoung turned to where she thought Nico was, but she was surprised to find Nico wasn’t behind her. “Nico?” “I thought we told her to wait at the entrance?” Sana asked, trying not to panic. “Oh ri-” Chaeyoung was cut off but a loud shrill scream and she looked at Sana, both sporting matching panicked looks, before sprinting towards the source of the sound. “Nico!” Chaeyoung yelled as she ran into the forrest. “Nico! Where are you?!” Chaeyoung’s stomach sank when she got no response and she ran as fast as she could through the trees, Sana not too far behind her. “Nico!” She called again, only to get no response. Chaeyoung’s calves were getting scratched by fallen branches but she couldn’t are less and she sprinted. The cold air was making it hard to run without getting winded and the snow was soaking Chaeyoung jeans but she didn’t care. She pushed through the trees until she finally spotted tell tale dark hair. “Nico baby, don’t scare us like that-” Chaeyoung started only for Nico to shush her loudly. Chaeyoung looked at the child confused before she finally walked into the clearing and froze. There was a thing, a monster as Nico called it, staring right back at her, it’s teeth bared as it looked ready to pounce. Nico was trembling in fear and Chaeyoung was paralyzed because she didn’t want to move and spark the beast into action. Chaeyoung’s breath stopped momentarily as she stared the creature down, and the thing let out a loud growl and started running before a gunshot rang out in the air. Sana was standing behind her, gun in hand and Nico instantly ran to Chaeyoung. Chaeyoung ran her fingers through the scared child’s hair, trying to make out what just happened.
“That’s my way of thanking you for last time,” Sana sighed and lowered her weapon, putting the thing away before running to Chaeyoung “Sana, that’s the second one in a row. The third one Mina hasn’t picked up in advance. Sana, I think we have a problem. A huge fucking problem.”
Addiction (19/?)
Thanks for the comments and messages/reblogs on the previous chapters, guys. I really appreciate it. Hope you all enjoy this one too! I’m on a bit of a roll with Addiction at the minute. :D Warning(s): Angst, cheating, VERY sexual scenes, LOTS of swearing. And again, very sexual scenes. So...M rated basically. “What are you two looking at?” Maki asked curiously as she walked over to Honoka and Umi. The two had been talking in hushed tones in the corner of the roof, their gazes fixated on something. Maki had been watching them for a couple of minutes. Eli had left a few minutes ago to get the two of them some juice. She followed their gazes to Kotori. “You aren’t going to argue again, are you?” Honoka looked up at Maki. “No...just...her jacket. I didn’t know she liked that style, it’s too...boyish for her liking. And it’s not mine despite the H on the front.” “And it says ‘I’m too hot’ on the back.” Umi pointed out quietly. “It’s...not usually Kotori’s attitude either. So we don’t think it’s hers.” “We just don’t know where she got it.” Honoka chimed in again, a puzzled expression on her face. “And I’m not speaking to her right now so I can’t ask. Can you ask her for us, Maki-chan?”
“No, I’m not doing your dirty work for you.” Maki answered firmly. “No way.” “Maaaaaki!” Honoka whined. Umi meanwhile looked on, staring at the embroidering on the back of the jacket. There was one person she knew who would wear something like that. “I said no, I’m…” Thankfully Maki was cut off before Honoka managed to talk her into doing something she really didn’t want to do. “What’s going on? You think she has a secret lover?” Nozomi teased as she approached them. “She hasn’t been spending as much time with me and Nicocchi lately…” “Are you kidding me?” Umi growled. “I’m just kidding.” Nozomi laughed at the look on Umi’s face before she turned to Maki. “Maki-chan, can I talk to you in private, please?” “Me?” Maki asked in surprise. She hadn’t spoken to Nozomi on her own since before she’d found about about Eli cheating with Maki. “O-Okay. Are you sure you…?” “Come on.” Nozomi grabbed Maki’s hand and tugged her away from Honoka and Umi who had turned their attention back to Kotori anyway. She led them off to the other corner of the roof. “What’s wrong? You’re not mad at me, are you?” Maki asked anxiously. She wasn’t sure why Nozomi wanted to talk to her. “Did I do something wrong?” “No, relax.” Nozomi let go of Maki’s hand and turned toward her. “I just wanted to talk to you without Elichi being around, that’s all.” “Wait, what?” Maki warily took a step back. “Look...Nozomi, I really care about you. And I do want to be friends with you again but i-if you’re going to ask me to break up with Eli, I’m sorry but I can’t. I love her.” “What? Why would you think that? Please don’t let Nicocchi hear you suggest that. She’d be so pissed at you...” Nozomi sighed in exasperation. “I just wanted to apologize again, specifically for slapping you in the clubroom that day. Hurting my friends isn’t usually something I do. And before you say anything, yes we are still friends. You’re one of my closest friends.” “Oh…” Maki looked down at the ground, pulling her cap down slightly to shield her eyes as she felt them prickle with tears. She didn’t deserve such apologies. She should be apologizing. “Um...a couple of other things too.” Nozomi wrung her hands together nervously. “I’m sorry I turned Nicocchi against you. I know you felt close to her and I um...I know it’s going to take a while for her to forgive you. I’m sorry for not putting a stop to the bullying too. I could have if I’d tried harder but I was...dealing with my own stuff.” Maki shook her head. “No, you were kinder to me than I deserved. Nozomi, could you please just shut up and stop apologizing? Damn it, I don’t deserve a friend like you. I’m the one who should be apologizing. I was the reason Eli broke your heart.” “You don’t get to take all the blame, Maki-chan.” Nozomi disagreed, noticing Maki’s choked up tone. “I wouldn’t have said it before but it was Elichi’s fault too. I know she went after you first. She told me.” “She’s sorry about that. She really does feel awful. If you want to forgive one of us, forgive her. She loves you. She really does.” Maki said hurriedly. “You’re her best friend and…” “I want to forgive you too. I’m ready to move past it.” Nozomi interrupted, not wanting Maki to work herself up. “I don’t want to lose either of you.” “B-But I don’t…” Maki’s voice cracked and she trailed off, tears filling her eyes. “Oh come here.” Nozomi pulled off the hat Maki was using to hide and drew the girl into her arms, hugging her tightly. Maki’s arms went around her in turn, hands clutching at the back of her shirt. “I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry, Nozomi…” Maki made no effort to hide the fact that she was crying now. “Shhh. I’m sorry too.” Nozomi gently ran her hand over the back of Maki’s head, trying to calm her. “Elichi told me you came out to your dad?” “Y-Yeah. He said he’ll lay off with t-the ‘marriage interviews’ and stuff. But I have to be sure. I am. I know I am. I can’t imagine being with anyone else.” Maki sniffled into Nozomi’s shoulder. She didn’t make any move to pull away. The last time Nozomi had hugged her had been fleeting so she wanted to bask in it this time. “I told him I’m gay and I don’t want to be with anyone else anyway. Eli’s the only person for me.” Nozomi allowed the lingering hug, gently stroking Maki’s back. “I think the majority of us are. Or at least in a relationship with other girls. Maybe not Hanayo-chan and Rin-chan but the rest of us are.” Maki chuckled tearfully. “It’s a good thing we have mostly female fans.”
--- Nozomi glanced around the cafeteria as she got her tray. Nico was busy with something she was adamant about not disclosing so for the second day in a row Nozomi was eating alone. She brightened, spotting Eli and Maki sitting together at a table but hesitated to walk over to them. She didn’t want to interrupt. Remembering her words from that morning though, she steeled herself and walked over to the table. When she was a couple of steps away, Eli and Maki looked up. “Do you mind if I sit here?” Nozomi asked, trying to sound casual about the request. “Nicocchi is busy or something.”
“Yes! I mean, no of course not!” Eli said hurriedly while Maki looked like she might cry again. “Please sit.” Nozomi sat down at the table with them. “You can carry on with whatever you were talking about. It’s fine.” “S-So um...as I was saying, she really bleached her hair.” Maki said, glancing back at Eli. “I couldn’t believe it. But the moment she walked into class, my jaw dropped.” “You’re talking about the first year, Amagi-san?” Nozomi asked, picking up her chopsticks to eat her Ma-Po tofu. “The one who’s almost as rich as you and Umi?” Maki nodded. “Yeah, her family owns a lot of galleries and collections. She was such a model student before though, it’s weird. I mean I know she was hiding some stuff and I heard rumors that she was kicked out of a boarding school but she was so quiet that I didn’t really believe them. And she has so many admirers. She even has boys in her fanclub!” “I guess people aren’t always the way they seem to be.” Eli said with a shrug of her shoulders. “I mean I had the wrong impression about you before we…” She glanced at Nozomi uncertainly, receiving a reassuring nod in response. “I think I know where Kotori got her jacket.” Maki said when Eli chose not to continue. “But I don’t know for sure so I don’t want to say anything.” “It’s best to keep it to yourself, Maki.” Nozomi agreed. “Kotori will come out when she’s ready to.”
 Maki bit her lip. “I guess. I’m just worried about her. She’s been acting a bit odd too lately. Maybe she’s being influenced or something. You still speak to her a lot, right? So you can keep an eye on her?” Nozomi nodded in response. “Of course I can.” --- “So you really did bleach your hair.” Umi said thoughtfully as she stepped close to Hibiki who was sitting in front of her usual easel in the art room. “I mean I know you said you would but I guess I didn’t believe you…” “Yeah, it doesn’t look too bad, right?” Hibiki self-consciously ran her hand through her hair. “No, it suits you. More than your darker hair did.” Umi said with a shrug of her shoulders. “I guess all that matters is whether you like it. Do you?” Hibiki nodded, smiling widely. She felt much better now that she had her hair the way she wanted it. “The rumors have started though.” “They’re just jealous, that’s all.” Umi said with a soft smile. “Ignore them.” “I’m down a notch from Makinin again, I think. Blonde isn’t a very popular color…” “Do you guys compete or something?” Umi asked, rolling her eyes. “Not really.” Hibiki said with a shrug of her shoulders. “I’m just saying, I’m not going to be as popular now that I’m blonde.” “Eli is blonde. You should see how popular she is, especially on Valentine’s day.” Umi pointed out logically. Eli had always been quite popular amongst the other girls in the school. “Besides it’s not like you care about that, is it?” Hibiki shrugged her shoulders. “There are more important things.” “That’s true.” Umi stared at Hibiki for a moment, tempted to ask the question on her mind. Part of her didn’t want to know though so she chose not to. “You’re not with Kaichou today?” Hibiki asked thoughtfully as she turned back to her blank canvas. Umi shook her head. “She’s busy with Eli. They went off somewhere together. Maki too, I think.” “You didn’t want to go with them?” “They didn’t ask me so I didn’t. I think Honoka wants to talk to them about some things she doesn’t want to talk to me about. Which is fine.” Umi wandered over to another chair and dragged it closer to Hibiki. “Do you mind if I hang out in here with you for a while?” “Course not. You can hang out with me whenever you want to.” Hibiki turned on her chair to face Umi. It wasn’t as though she was going to get much done. She hadn’t drawn a single thing yet. “Do you want to talk about Hocchi?” Umi shrugged her shoulders. “There’s not much to talk about. She’s worried about things. About me not being out to my family, about Kotori. Maybe she just needs to talk to Eli about it. She doesn’t want to upset me maybe.” “You hate seeing her upset too so it’s pretty much a mutual thing you two have, hmm?” Hibiki asked pointedly. “Yeah.” Umi looked down at the ring on her finger, recalling how upset Honoka had been when she’d taken it off for the fundraiser. She’d regretted that decision ever since then. Ever since she’d seen how hurt Honoka had been. “I think I’m going to come out to my parents this weekend. I can’t keep doing this to her. To us. I need people to know.” “You’re following Maki’s example, huh? Isn’t your father kind of a prick though?” Hibiki asked, raising an eyebrow. “If I remember correctly.” “He’s strict but has to maintain his status as the head of the dojo. I remember when he was young, he wished I was a boy…” “A prick then.” Hibiki concluded, turning to scowl at her blank canvas.
 Umi slumped back down in her seat and sighed heavily. “Do you mind if I ask you something personal?” Hibiki shrugged. “There’s a rumour that you were kicked out of boarding school before you came here. Is that true?” Umi asked carefully. “Damn it, Umi-tan. I thought you were above gossiping.” Hibiki didn’t look at Umi. “It’s true that I was meant to go to boarding school for middle school and high school. What of it?” “What did you do?” “Wouldn’t you like to know?” Hibiki retorted automatically. “I don’t like talking about it. Guess I’ll have to soon if it’s going around the school though.” “Oh, it’s not. I heard it at a fundraiser last year.” Umi said sheepishly. “I think Maki and I are the only people here who know about it.” “I’d like to keep it that way if that’s okay with you.” Hibiki’s tone wasn’t light and carefree like Umi was used to. It was serious and firm. “Okay. We don’t have to talk about it.” Umi said, not wanting to upset her. She leaned back in her seat, her thoughts drifting to Honoka. “Thank you…” Hibiki muttered. ----
 “Your house is almost as big as Umi-chan’s.” Kotori observed as Hibiki let her into her room. She glanced around, noticing the vintage posters on the walls as well as the art supplies scattered around. She noticed a painted mural on the far wall. The room was fairly dark. Even the sheets adorning her surprisingly large bed were black. Kotori hadn’t expected anything less if she was honest. “This is...very you.” There were paint tubes on the floor in front of a canvas, settled on an easel. It was blank, Kotori noticed as she continued to look around. The room was nothing like her own. It was dark and somehow...sexy in a way. “Yeah, my parents give me free reign with this. So I went all out.” Hibiki said with a shrug of her shoulders. “I’m really into the…” “Hibiki.” Hibiki fell silent when Kotori interrupted her. Something about the girl’s voice sounded breathy. “Yeah?” Kotori bit her lip as she turned to Hibiki. She stared at her for a moment, taking in the open blouse, revealing a crimson top underneath. She felt her cheeks flush as Hibiki lifted her hand to tuck her hair behind her ear, her shirt sliding up slightly. She hugged the clothes she had brought closer to her. “Nothing. I’m just...a bit nervous.” “Hey, you really have nothing to worry about.” Hibiki walked over to Kotori and took the bag of costumes from her, placing it neatly on the bed. “Just think about performing. It’s just like that but you have to pose for a while longer than at the end of a song. And it’s just me here. You trust me, right Kotori?” “I don’t even know you that well…” Kotori said with a slightly disbelieving laugh. “I didn’t ask that.” Hibiki reached for Kotori’s hand and gripped it lightly. “We can stop whenever you want to. Do you trust me though? A bad girl posing as a good girl?” Kotori bit her lip again. Hibiki certainly knew how to make a girl’s knees weak. “I trust you. I trust an artist with a gifted skill.” Hibiki smiled and stepped back, letting go of Kotori’s hand. “We can start with a portrait with just your uniform on. Though if you don’t mind I’d like the blazer off. Sleeves up to your elbows and...your bow off. Please.” “Okay.” Kotori shrugged out of her blazer, tossing it down next to the other clothes. She took her school bow off too and then rolled up her sleeves like Hibiki had asked. “Like this?” “Yeah. I’m just gonna change too. I don’t want to get this dirty…” Hibiki turned away from Kotori and began to slip off her school blouse. Kotori’s eyes widened as Hibiki took her shirt off, revealing her bare back. Or parts of it at least. She was still wearing the crimson camisole but it was very thin. As she turned Kotori noticed that she was a lot more filled out in the chest area than she had first though. She was about as big as Maki. She watched as Hibiki unhooked her skirt and grabbed a pair of ripped old boot cut jeans which she began to tug on, not before Kotori got a glimpse of black panties though. “Fuck…” Hibiki looked up and Kotori turned away quickly, blood rushing to her face. “Did the principal’s daughter just curse?” Hibiki smirked. “How uncharacteristic. What would your mom think?” “W-Why are you undressing in front of me?” Kotori stuttered. She didn’t dare turn back to Hibiki just yet. “I said I was changing.” Hibiki said, zipping her jeans up. “Warned you. It’s safe to look now by the way. Not that it wasn’t before. I hardly care if you look.” Kotori hesitantly turned back to Hibiki. “I wasn’t looking. I was just surprised.” “Sure you weren’t.” Hibiki teased, brushing past Kotori to get to her easel. Kotori’s eyes dropped to the girl’s ass as she walked and she huffed out a sigh of annoyance. When Hibiki turned back around to face her, she looked away. She was surprised to find archery equipment in Hibiki’s closet. “You’re in the archery club?” “Eh...I was before I screwed up.” Kotori raised an eyebrow. “That doesn’t sound like you. From what I know.” Hibiki shrugged her shoulders. “Yeah well I was forced to choose a sport. Sit down on the bed, would you?” She waited until Kotori sat down on the edge of the bed. “Okay, shuffle back so you’re not perched right on the edge. Don’t fold your hands in your lap like that, put them at either side of you. Try to look relaxed.” “I don’t feel relaxed.” Kotori said as she watched Hibiki put her hair up with a bobby pin. “I feel scrutinized.” “Please.” Hibiki said with a slight scoff. “I don’t scrutinize you when I look at you. More like admire.” “Huh? Really?” “I told you. You’re really pretty. Why would I not look at you like that?” Hibiki set her easel up, preparing to draw Kotori. “Lean back on your hands just a bit and cross your right leg over your left.”                  Kotori did as she was told but then she did something that surprised even Hibiki. She lifted her hand and unbuttoned the top two buttons of her shirt. She didn’t know why but she wanted to make Hibiki squirmed. Hibiki felt her mouth run dry as her gaze drifted briefly to the bare skin on display. “T-That’s good, yeah.” Kotori almost smirked at the stutter but stopped herself just in time. She leaned back a bit further, her heart hammering in her chest at the heated look the first year was giving her. She watched as Hibiki got to work with her pencil on the easel, every few seconds looking back up at her. Like she couldn’t draw her eyes away. Her stare was intense and Kotori had to fight the urge to shudder. She managed to sit still though. She couldn’t help but notice the way Hibiki was barely even looking at her face. Instead, her gaze was drifting over her arms, chest and legs. It just made the whole thing even more intimate. She could hear the faint scratch of the pencil against the canvas as Hibiki carefully sketched her. It was quiet save from that and Kotori allowed her own attention to shift to Hibiki’s body. Or what she could make out anyway.
 Hibiki’s tongue was sticking out just slightly in concentration. Kotori’s gaze travelled further down, to her chest then past the easel to her feet planted firmly on the ground. Hibiki wasn’t standing fully in front of the easel so it was easy to see her jeans slipping just a little bit down her waist, black panties just about visible. Fighting the urge to squirm herself as heat settled low in her stomach, she kept her eyes on Hibiki and stayed quiet, focusing on not moving. She didn’t want to ruin the drawing after all. “Could you untie your hair?” “Huh?” Kotori asked in surprise. She’d gotten used to the silence and hadn’t expected Hibiki to say anything. “The half ponytail is a pain in the ass to draw. I’d like it better if it was down. Here, I’ll do it. Don’t move.” Hibiki stepped out from behind her easel and crossed the room. She knelt on the bed with one knee and leaned in, reaching for Kotori’s ribbon. Kotori’s breath caught as she found herself staring at Hibiki’s chest. A moment later, her hair fell down against her body as her ribbon was removed and Hibiki leaned back. “Um…” “Much better.” Hibiki looked down, her blue eyes meeting amber. “You okay down there?” “Mmm.” Kotori answered with a nod of her head. It was all she could really manage.
“We could take a break if you want to?” Hibiki offered thoughtfully, wondering if Kotori was having an issue staying still for so long. Kotori shook her head. “No, it’s fine. Let’s continue. I want you to continue.”                    “Even if I keep staring at you?” Hibiki’s hand moved unconsciously to Kotori’s thigh. Kotori sucked in a sharp breath. She didn’t know if Hibiki was flirting on purpose but it was certainly working to get her riled up. “I like you staring at me. But maybe it would be better if I got into character. Wearing my uniform is just me…” “I’ll see what we have.” Hibiki got up and went to the bag of clothing, rifling through it in search of any muse costumes that would look good on Kotori. She paused, finding her letterman jacket in there. “My jacket. You decided to return it then?” “Um...not exactly.” Kotori answered sheepishly. Hibiki picked up the jacket. “Then why is it here?” “I like wearing it. And you said I looked good in it when I wore it after school a few days ago, remember? I stopped by the art club?” “Yeah, I remember..” Hibiki said with a shake of her head. “Of course I remember. You do look really good in it.” Kotori smiled bashfully and stood from the bed. “Do you want to..draw me in it?” “More clothes. An artist’s worst nightmare.” Hibiki said with a slight roll of her eyes. Personally she would rather Kotori stay as she was. “Hibiki.” Kotori paced toward Hibiki and took the jacket from her hands. “Turn around. Please.” “Huh? Why?” Hibiki frowned but when Kotori merely stared at her expectantly she sighed and turned around, staring at her door. Kotori took a deep breath, trying to calm herself for what she was about to do. She was taking a big risk and putting herself out there. She’d only known Hibiki for just over a week but she was sure she understood the signals the other girl was giving her. She slowly unbuttoned the rest of her shirt and tossed it onto the floor before reaching behind her to unclasp her bra too. She tossed that down next to her shirt and slipped the letterman jacket on, leaving it unzipped. It fit her like a glove but she knew that nothing would be well covered with the jacket opened. She supposed that was the point. She didn’t want them hidden. She slid off her skirt and allowed it to the drop to the floor. Nerves kicked in now that she was exposed but she took a deep breath to calm herself. “Hibiki. You can um...” “Turn around? About ti-” Hibiki turned around, her word sticking in her throat when she noticed Kotori’s state of undress. She hadn’t expected her to be so bold. Her gaze slid down to Kotori’s breasts, barely covered by the fabric of her letterman jacket. She swallowed convulsively. “Y-You want me to draw you like this?” Kotori nodded. “At least now there won’t be more clothing…” Hibiki could swear that she saw Kotori’s nipples harden against the chill in the room. “I don’t think I can.” “Oh, do you not…?” Kotor self-consciously crossed her arms in front of her chest. It wouldn’t have been the first time she’d been rejected sexually. Maybe she was just good at reading signals completely wrong. “No, no. That’s not it.” Hibiki scratched the back of her neck as she stared longingly at Kotori’s slightly more covered chest. “I just um...I don’t think I can concentrate. Now I’m j-just kind of thinking about how much I want to touch your boobs. Stupid, right?” She took a step back, flustered and accidentally stepped in some red paint. “Ah, shit….” Kotori decided to make her move, slowly sliding the jacket off as she walked toward Hibiki. It hit the floor somewhere behind her but she didn’t have time to check where it was. When she was within touching distance, Hibiki grabbed her and spun them around, pushing her against the mural wall behind them. Kotori gasped, discovering the paint was still very much wet. “Now look what you did.” Hibiki pressed herself flush against Kotori and watched as the second year’s cheek flushed. “Now I’m going to have to paint this all over again. This time with your body…” Kotori’s stomach fluttered with excitement. She reached up, brushing her paint covered fingers against Hibiki’s cheek, leaving streaks of blue. “Then do it, bad girl.” Hibiki chuckled low in her throat. “You like that, huh? That I’m such a ‘bad girl’. It turns you on.” “Yeah…” Kotori whispered, her paint covered fingers sliding into Hibiki’s hair, tugging the bobby pin out to let it fall to her shoulders. “You do.” Hibiki planted both hands at the side of Kotori’s head, coating her hands in black and white paint as she leaned up and crashed her lips against the almost naked second year’s. Kotori was taken by surprise as Hibiki kissed her deeply, without the slightest hesitation. A skilled tongue swiping at her lower lip had her granting access immediately and she whimpered as the feeling of said tongue exploring her mouth. Honoka had never been so enthusiastic. She’d only ever kissed her briefly, their makeouts barely ever deepening to this point. A hand clutched her leg, drawing it up and Kotori whimpered as Hibiki’s knee slid between her legs, pushing against her core. A paint covered hand cupped her breast, squeezing and rubbing and spreading paint onto her skin while another clutched at her thigh to keep her leg up. The idea of her skin being marked with the paint turned her on even more and she couldn’t help but grind against Hibiki’s knee, whimpering at the friction it brought. She tore her mouth away to take a much needed breath but Hibiki didn’t seem to approve and ducked her head to kiss and nip at her neck. Kotori moaned loudly and tried to press herself harder against Hibiki’s leg. “Fuck, you really want this, don’t you?” Hibiki muttered, pushing her hands into the back of Kotori’s panties. She gripped her ass, pushing her none too gently further up the wall. She was ruining the mural but she couldn’t bring herself to care about that. Kotori gripped Hibiki’s jeans, trying to pull her closer to her. “Usually I don’t do this with girls from the school. You know, to keep up the act. But I’ll make an exception for you, Kotori. Because you’re so fucking hot. No strings attached. If you want.” Hibiki paused to suck firmly at Kotori’s neck. “Of course I am. Just hurry up and fuck me already.” Kotori growled in Hibiki’s ear, causing her to shudder. “I need it.” “Fuck…” Hibiki muttered, caught off guard. She let go of Kotori’s ass and pulled her away from the wall, guiding her to the paint mat she’d laid out on the floor instead. She gripped Kotori’s shoulders and pushed her down onto the mat, quickly following her. --- Kotori was wearing the same jacket to the club meeting. Honoka noticed as soon as she stepped into the room. She hadn’t seen much of Kotori that day, having been busy with Umi. She noticed Maki and Hanayo, who were sitting together cast a nervous glance at her but she didn’t think anything of it. She sat down opposite Kotori, Hanayo and Maki as Eli and Umi sat down at either side of her. She didn’t notice anything amiss for a moment but then she looked up at Kotori, her blood running cold as she noticed the marks on her neck. “What the hell is that?” She pointed her own neck, her eyes boring into Kotori’s. “Is that a hickey? Where did you get it?” “I don’t think that’s any of your business.” Kotori’s voice was sharp but she didn’t even look at Honoka. “If you have to know, I slept with someone. She was hot.” Honoka gripped the edge of the table. “Someone from Muse?” “No, you don’t know her. I’ve only known her for a week.” Kotori crossed her arms in front of her chest. Somehow the pained, angry look on Honoka’s face felt good. Honoka hadn’t even spoken to her in the past couple of weeks. “You threw your first time away on a one night stand?!” Honoka asked in disbelief. “Kotori-chan, that’s…” “What? You wouldn’t take it. You just let me throw myself at you.” Kotori growled in frustration. “Why would you care who I give it to? Besides, they may have only known me for a week but she seems to care about me more than you ever did. I’ll probably sleep with her again anyway. I actually feel like she wants me.” “KOTORI!”Umi stood up, slamming her hands against the desk. She quietened down when she spoke next though anger lingered in her voice. “Everyone get out. I need to speak to Kotori for a minute.” Everyone quickly got up and left the room, save for Honoka, Kotori, Umi and Eli. The blonde lingered for a moment, giving Honoka’s shoulder a brief squeeze. “If you need me I’ll be right outside the…” “Honoka, you go too.” Umi said firmly, turning to look at Honoka. “Please. Go with Eli.” To her surprise, Honoka got up and went with Eli without argument. When the door closed Umi turned on Kotori. “What the hell are you trying to do, Kotori? Are you trying to hurt her?” Umi’s voice was low but the fury in her voice was unmistakable. “Is that what you’re trying to do because I don’t even need to go and speak to her to know you’re doing a DAMN good job.” Kotori scoffed and looked away. “Kotori, I’m trying. I’m trying so hard to be nice about this.” Umi skirted around the table until she could sink into the seat next to Kotori. “But you’re pushing me. You just went and slept with someone else without even thinking about it. And then you flaunt it in front of her?” Kotori shook her head. “I can do what I like. It’s none of her...” She yelped as Umi grabbed the front of her shirt with both hands. “What the…?!” “This is the difference between how I feel about Honoka and how you feel about her. When I hurt her, I can’t stand to see that look in her eyes. I hate myself for doing it and I’ll do anything to fix it.” Umi’s eyes misted with tears. “You don’t care, do you? You really don’t.” Kotori felt her throat close up, her own eyes prickling but she tried not to look phased. “What does it matter? She hates me.” “NO SHE DOESN’T!” Umi gave Kotori a sharp shake. “Stop being so damn stubborn! She doesn’t love you like she loves me but she does love you. She needs her best friend and losing you will break her heart.” When Kotori merely stared at her, her grip loosened, tears sliding their way down her cheeks. “We both love you. Do you have any idea how much it hurts us to see you doing this to yourself? You deserve better than a one night stand.” “I don’t want it to be a one night stand! Okay?!” Kotori exclaimed, lightly pushing Umi’s hands away from her. “I like her! Maybe we rushed it but I really do like her. She’s cool and different and wild and something I’ve never experienced before. And she likes me too, I think. Well...she likes my physically at least. Unlike Honoka-chan...” “What…?” Umi’s eyes widened in surprise. “Kotori, who is it?” “Her name is Amagi Hibiki.” Kotori said with a shrug of her shoulders. “The girl who confessed to you?” “Yeah, I know her…” Umi sighed and leaned back in her seat. “Kotori, look...you need to stop trying to hurt Honoka. Just talk to her. Please. We all did things we shouldn’t have and I’m sorry. We never wanted to hurt you. But you hurt us too.” Kotori nodded silently and stood up. “I don’t hate you, Umi-chan. I just need some time.” She reached out to touch Umi’s shoulder but stopped just shy of it. Sighing to herself she turned and left the room. --- “What are you still doing on your laptop?” Eli close to whined from the bed. “Come to bed. I need my teddy bear.” “Sorry, just some last minute researching.” Maki shut the laptop and walked over to the bed, clambering up on it. She found Eli’s open arms waiting for her and smirked to herself as she moved into them lying down next to the blonde. “Hmm, I missed you…” Eli briefly buried her nose in Maki’s hair and inhaled slowly. “I missed you too.” Maki laughed softly as she slid her arm around Eli’s waist, pressing herself close. “But it’s only been a few minutes and we were in the same room…” “I don’t care, I still missed you.” Eli gently kissed the area behind Maki’s ear, causing her to shudder. “I got my acceptance letter a couple of days ago.” “What? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?!” Maki looked up at Eli, beaming happily. “I’m so happy for you. I knew you’d do it.” She reached up, cupping Eli’s face in her hands and pulled her down into a kiss. Eli pulled back, her lips turned up into a small smile. “The whole Honoka drama kind of made me forget, sorry. I’ll still be in Tokyo so that’s good. I won’t be too far away.” “That’s good.” Maki said, settling back down next to Eli. Eli nervously bit her lip. “Nozomi told me I can move in with her and Nico so I’m not living by myself. I didn’t expect her to but it’s good. It was our plan for a long time. Is that okay with you?” “Sure, I trust you.” Maki answered without hesitation. “That’s...not really what I meant.” Eli sighed and laid down on her back, staring at the ceiling. Her left arm was trapped because Maki’s head was resting there so she couldn’t move too far away. “Will you miss me?” Maki scoffed. “Of course. Well...just a little bit. I’m allowed to come and visit, right?” “Yes! If you want to.” Eli felt relief wash over her. “Maybe every weekend and holidays too if you can? If you don’t mind staying over with Nozomi and Nico there.” “As long as you have your own room, I don’t mind. Besides, just try to keep me away at the weekend if Im going a full week without seeing you.” Maki turned onto her side to look at Eli. “And we’ll skype every night before bed.” Eli smiled softly at the promise. “You gonna start cram school soon?” “Yeah, my dad’s already looking into it. He’s still letting me take piano lessons and do concerts though.” Maki said happily. Her dad had dealt with everything a lot better than she’d thought he would. “You’ll come to my competitions, right?” “Obviously. I have to be there to cheer my amazingly talented girlfriend on.” Eli gave Maki a gentle squeeze. “Hey, Maki...I know this sounds stupid but can you promise me something?” “Anything.” Maki said solemnly, noticing the serious look on Eli’s face. “What is it?” Eli’s face turned red with embarrassment. “Just...promise me this isn’t going to tear us apart? I know we won’t see each other as much but...I love you so much, Maki. I’ll do anything to keep us together. Anything.” Maki stared at Eli for a moment before she scooted back, sliding off the bed. She walked across the room to rummage through her bag and Eli sat up, worriedly watching her. “Maki? Is something wrong?” Eli was relieved when Maki turned back to her and walked over to the bed, clutching a long box. “What’s that?” Maki knelt down on the bed next to Eli. “I was going to give you this at graduation but now’s a better time, I think.” She held the box out to Eli who slowly took it from her but didn’t open it right away. “Open it!” “Alright.” Eli slowly opened the box to reveal a gold bracelet. She cast a glance at Maki who was smiling nervously before she took the bracelet from the box. “Maki…” “I had some charms put on it. A piano for me obviously and ballet shoes for you.” Maki explained as she watched Eli run her fingers over the charms. “I was thinking you can wear it when you’re at college. So you think of me.” “I’ll never stop thinking about you.” Eli said, her voice sounding slightly choked. “I have a matching one too.” Maki opened her other hand to reveal a bracelet that matched Eli’s. “So when you look at yours you’ll know I’ll be wearing mine too. Honoka gave me the idea actually. But I just want you to know that I’ll always be thinking about you too. I want to be with you...forever if you’ll have me, Eli.” “You’re gonna make me cry.” Eli said, her voice choked with emotion already. She held out her bracelet to Maki. “Put in on for me?” Maki brightened at the request and took the bracelet, setting her own on her lap. Carefully, she reached toward Eli’s outstretched wrist and put the bracelet on for her. “Will you…?” “Of course.” Eli took Maki’s bracelet from the redhead’s lap and put it on for her, being as careful as she could. Maki smiled at the way the bracelet looked on her wrist. “I meant what I said before. I’m never going to leave you, even if things get hard I’m still going to be with you.” “You really are trying to make me cry…” “I’m sorry, I ju-” Maki was cut off as Eli kissed her suddenly, toppling them both over onto the bed. “Shhh.” Eli whispered, situating herself on top of Maki. “I hope the door is locked. Because you’re not gonna get any sleep tonight.” “Huh?” Maki’s confusion was interrupted by Eli kissing her again. With the blonde pressed flush against her she could hardly bring herself to argue. Her arms went around the girl above her and she kissed her back, arching slightly to get closer to her. Eli smirked to herself as Maki’s hand slid under her shirt, soft fingers moving over her skin. Even when she was beneath her, Maki was trying to top her it seemed. “I hope you can be quiet.” She mumbled against soft lips. “Because I plan to make you scream my name.” Maki shuddered at the warning. Her hands sunk down to Eli’s sleep shorts, slipping underneath them so that she could cup her firm ass, fingernails digging into soft skin. “Is that a challenge?” Eli opened her mouth to reply but Maki gave a firm tug, pulling Eli’s hips down to meet hers. The blonde moaned despite herself and Maki laughed quietly. “Maybe you’re the one who needs to learn to be quiet…” She teased, leaning up to nip at Eli’s ear. “Maybe I’ll be the one making you scream tonight.”
Eli groaned as she felt Maki continue to grind her repeatedly against her. “Maki…” Maki pushed herself into a sitting position, her lips finding their way to Eli’s neck and she slid her hand into the front of the blonde’s shorts, finding slick heat waiting for her. “Fuck, Eli…” She mused to herself as Eli rolled her hips forward against her hand. She couldn’t help it, she firmly bit Eli’s ear, earning a soft squeak of surprise. “You’re so damn cute. I don’t want to strip you tonight. It’s hotter doing it in our clothes, don’t you think?” Eli moaned like Maki had known she would. One of the things Maki had noticed about the blonde was that doing it in her clothes turned her on. It was cute, Maki thought. She planted her feet firmly on the bed and quickly flipped them, taking Eli by surprise. She grinned briefly at the blonde before she leaned down and pressed her lips to heated skin, dragging her teeth and lips down Eli’s front until she reached the edge of her tank top. She continued until she reached it’s hem which she pulled up with her teeth, revealing Eli’s smooth stomach. “You’re so…” She planted her lips to Eli’s abdomen, using her teeth a little to cause the blonde to hiss softly. “Fucking hot.” “Maki…” Eli arched into Maki’s mouth, trying to get closer to her. The redhead’s hand was still in her shorts, persistent fingers stroking her slowly. “Maki!” Maki smirked against Eli’s abdomen. It always amused her that she could turn the usually calm, confident blonde into such a needy mess. “Mmmhm?” “Just…” Eli’s hand slid into Maki’s hair, taking her slightly by surprise. “Come on.” Maki gave a soft chuckle. It was cute, when Eli tried to take control. “Why? You like it when I make you wait. It turns you on, doesn’t it? All of that anticipation...” Eli whimpered in response as Maki teasingly slid a single finger into her. “Maki, please. Please.” Maki paused, shuddering at the pleading tone in Eli’s voice. “Please what, Eli?” She shifted down, her lips brushing Eli’s shorts but bypassing where she knew Eli really wanted her. She kissed Eli’s thigh, gently nipping it a second later. “Just fucking…” Eli threw her arm over her eyes, her cheeks flushing red. “Ugh. Maki. Come on…” Maki withdrew her fingers for a moment, moving back to her knees next to Eli. Her previous position was uncomfortable so she moved so that she was straddling Eli’s stomach, facing away from her. She slid her hand back into El’s shorts and reentered her with two fingers, causing her to moan loudly. She didn’t move them again though, letting them stay still. “Why should I do it if you can’t even say it out loud?” Eli pushed her head into the pillow and moaned at the feeling of Maki’s fingers inside of her. Maki moved her fingers just a little bit and Eli automatically tried to grind her hips forward to prolong the movement. “Say it.” “Fine!” Eli growled, struggling to think. “Just fuck me!” Maki shook her head in disapproval. “Say it nicely.” “Fuck…” Eli opened her eyes and watched as Maki leaned down, kissing the waistband of her shorts. Somehow the fact that Maki wasn’t facing her made it even hotter. “Please fuck me, Maki. Make me scream your name. Make me yours, please just...” Maki braced herself with one hand on Eli’s thigh and began to thrust her fingers back and forth, effectively interrupting the blonde’s aroused babbling. “You’re already mine…” She muttered more to herself than to Eli who was too busy writhing beneath her to reply anyway. “Yesss…” Eli hissed as she moved her hips in time with the thrusts of Maki’s fingers. It felt so good she could already feel herself inching toward one of the most mind blowing orgasms she’d ever had. She reached out, needily tugging at Maki’s sweats, needing to see more. Maki barely noticed her sweatpants inching down her ass as Eli tugged at them. She hardly cared anyway. It wasn’t as though she’d forbidden Eli from using her hands or touching her. The thought gave her an idea but she stored it away for later. Eli’s hands crept over her ass and up her back, touching her everywhere she could but Maki wasn’t to be distracted. She leaned down as she continued to move her fingers, pressing her lips just above them. Eli yelped and spread her legs wider to give Maki more space. She wished she could feel Maki’s tongue directly against her yet Maki kissing and licking at her above her shorts was somehow even more of a turn on. “Fuck, Maki…” She gripped Maki’s hips firmly in her hands, her eyes flitting restlessly over the skin she’d managed to expose. Maki groaned softly when Eli’s hands didn’t stay where they were for long, sliding down to grip her rear. Somehow Eli being so needy and desperate only turned her on more. She wanted to think of more ways to get her like that. She smirked at another idea she had. She would save that for an anniversary or something. She would need to research and maybe seek advice somewhere. “Maki, I-I’m going to...fuck!” Eli gripped at the covers, trying to grind forward against Maki’s fingers and mouth. The hand on her thigh kept her mostly pinned down though. “Maaakii…” Maki shivered at the way her name sounded on Eli’s lips. She increased the pace of her fingers and sucked firmly at Eli’s clit over her short. She was taken by surprise when Eli’s hips jerked forward, her back arching off the bed, even with Maki atop her and she let out a muffled scream. She was curious about it but she kept up the movement of her fingers until Eli slumped back down, spent. Maki looked over her shoulder in time to find Eli discarding a pillow she’d used to muffle her scream. She vowed to someday get Eli to scream in a place where she didn’t have to hold herself back or silence herself. Smirking smugly, Maki drew her hand from Eli’s shorts, surprised to find out how wet her fingers were. She didn’t hesitate to slide them into her mouth, humming in satisfaction to herself. Eli, panting softly watched through hooded eyes, arousal spiking again. “Fuck. M-Maki, can you do something for me?” Maki slid her fingers from her mouth, assuming Eli was going to ask her to use it. “Anything.” “Take your clothes off while I catch my breath.” Maki was puzzled but decided to do as Eli asked. She got off the bed and stripped quickly until she was completely naked. She got on the bed and went to kiss Eli only for the blonde to turn her face away. “What’s wrong?” “Straddle me like you were before.” Eli ordered, still a bit breathless and flushed. “But...my face this time.” Eli’s words were hushed and shy but Maki heard them just fine. Her stomach filled with butterflies, her centre throbbing in response. “O-On your...okay!” She carefully moved up the bed further as Eli shifted down a little. She swung one leg over Eli’s head, positioning herself over her. “A-Are you su...AH!” ---- Honoka was staring down at her uneaten lunch when a shadow fell over her, causing her to look up. She had sat herself in the far corner of the cafeteria because she hadn’t wanted to speak to anyone, especially her friend and yet Eli, Maki, Nozomi and Nico were standing in front of her. Nico sat down opposite, her tray clattering against the table. “Heard you were late this morning.” She remarked. Honoka shrugged as Eli sat down next to her, Nozomi taking a seat next to Nico while Maki sat next to Eli. “So?” “Your hair looks different.” Nozomi added carefully. It was obvious there was something wrong. “You don’t usually wear it completely down. Did you feel like a change?” Honoka shrugged again. Maki cleared her throat, deciding to approach the issue directly. She leaned forward so that she could look at Honoka. “We heard that you were rude to a teacher. Does it have anything to do with Umi not being at school? Is she sick?” “Maybe.” Honoka answered vaguely, not bothering to look up. “Just leave it alone, I don’t want to talk about it.” “Honoka, we’re just trying to help.” Eli said gently. “As the student council president, you can’t snap at teachers when y-” “Why don’t you just shut up?!” Honoka snapped angrily, reaching the end of her patience. Eli flinched next to her while the others stared at her in shock. Even Nico was taken by surprise. Honoka never snapped at Eli. “Honoka, she’s just trying to help you.” Maki said defensively. “She’s worried about you, just like the rest of us. There’s no need to yell at her. If you don’t want to te-” “Maki, shut the hell up.” Nico ordered, her gaze fixed on Honoka. The fact that the girl was sitting opposite her meant that she could see the tears that laced her eyes. She didn’t look like she’d slept much either. She reached across the table and grasped Honoka’s hand. “Hey. What happened?” “She came out to her family.” Honoka answered weakly, squeezing Nico’s hand back. Maki’s eyes widened as Eli looked away uncomfortably. Nozomi, sensing what was coming looked down at her hands. “Her dad was...awful.” Honoka continued. She paused for a moment to blink back tears and swallow against the lump in her throat. “He slapped her and told her to get out s-so she’s living with me for now. My mom told her to take the day off because she was awake most of the night crying.I was late this morning because I could tell she was upset that I had to leave and I-I didn’t want to go but I had to.” “Shit.” Eli slipped her arms around Honoka, hugging her tightly from the side. “What about your parents?” Nozomi asked quietly. “Are they okay with it? Do they know? If the two of you need somewhere to stay when they find out I’m always here.” “Thank you, Nozomi.” Honoka quickly wiped her eyes. “But my parents are fine with it. They’re actually happy it’s Umi-chan. My mom is ecstatic about it. She loves Umi-chan. Everyone in my family does...” “That’s good.” Eli murmured, gently rubbing Honoka’s back. She looked over her shoulder at Maki who was suddenly very quiet, her eyes fixed to her lap. She reached out and grasped Maki’s hand, recognizing the look of guilt on her face. Maki managed a small smile. She shouldn’t have been so quick to snap at Honoka in retaliation. She should have been calm and gentle, like Honoka had with her so many times before. Nico took a deep breath. It was a lot to take in. “Does she need us to go and get her stuff? Nozomi and I can pick it up for her if she wants. I can’t promise I won’t key her dad’s car though…” Honoka managed a giggle at that. She could imagine Nico doing that. “My dad’s going to get it today. With Yukiho, he said. I guess she must be taking the day off or they’re going later. T-There is something you can all do though. If you want.” “Anything.” Maki said sincerely. “M-Maybe you can all come after school today?” Honoka asked hopefully. “I know she’d love to see you. Especially you, Maki-chan…” “Me?” Maki asked in surprise. “Why me?” “Well she told me that you really helped her over the past few weeks.” Honoka said with a shrug of her shoulders. “I think you really make her feel better. A-And Nozomi too, you make everyone feel better when they’re upset. And Nico-chan, you can help cheer her up.” “Am I invited?” Eli joked, giving Honoka a gentle nudge. Honoka offered a small smile. “I need you there for me too. And Umi of course. Can you all come? Please?” “Of course. Nozomi said softly. “But um...what about Kotori-chan?” Fury flitted across Honoka’s features. “She hates Umi-chan. She told me so. I don’t want her anywhere near Umi-chan right now.” Nozomi wanted to protest and tell Honoka that Kotori had only said that in the heat of the moment. She’d said so herself. She stayed quiet though, nodding mutely.
–PART TWO!—
“Is everything alright, cap’in?”
“Hmm, yes, yes. Have the prisoners given any information yet?”
“Yes, cap’in. Two of them had been those servants of the higher class. Prisoners say they were the lot who frequented the royal family’s quarters and runs ‘em errands.”
“Good. Have you identified them?”
“Yes sir. One, the girl, was a rather feisty little thing. Unfortunately the urchin… um…”
“Well? Spit it out.”
“Little lass went crazy and Tommy had to shoot her.”
Will sighed, rubbing his ring-decorated fingers over his face. No, this simply couldn’t do. “And the other one?” he grumbled.
“Still half asleep and mumbling. I think we might ‘ave hit him on the noggin a tad too hard.”
“Good. Tie him up in my quarters—I’ll be the one doing the interrogating, else you bloody bastards end up killing our key to getting that treasure.”
Captain Solace’s second mate, Lancer, nodded his head of ragged brown hair and offered a crooked-tooth grin. “Pardon me, cap’in,” he said, putting a finger forward. “But how’s killin’ off the royal family going to get us rich? If we do it then… we got’s to do it fast, and we wouldn’t be able to raid all their riches.”
“Hmm… you’re not as stupid as I thought. We will get some of their stuff, but a bounty’s up on their heads. Captain Jackson has a score to settle with the snotty-nosed fools, anyone who can kill them gets a chest full of rubies. Not on his priority list of people to kill, but he hates them anyway.” Will smiled to himself. Pirate bounties were always up for grabs, if you knew where to look. Rich enough pirates, like Percy Jackson for example, could give you a good amount of riches for killing people they want dead but couldn’t bother to do so themselves.
The pirate industry was far better than the trading industry now a days.
Will frowned, glaring at his second mate. “What are you still standing here for? Go tie up the prisoner!”
“Y-yes cap’in!” Lancer stumbled away in a rush, leaving Will alone at the head of the deck.
The waves were calm today. The weather was wonderful and not a single thing seemed out of place. Will had his crew weigh anchor just off the coast of an isolated beach, a little way from the kingdom’s docks. Once the royal family was disposed of, Will would get his bounty and say goodbye to the vast town filled with penniless, miserable people.
Ah yes. Life on the sea was one for him! Well… he will miss someone.
Nico… He was too sincere, too charming, too wonderful of a person to leave behind. It was a long shot, but Will knew he would find him again. He would find Nico and ask him to come with, to leave the drab city behind. He had so much potential and wonder…
Yes, somehow, when they return to the docks to execute the mission, he’d find Nico. He’d force him onto the ship if he had to.
He just… he didn’t want to lose him.
“The servant’s all ready for interrogation, sir. A feisty one he is, squirmin’ and thrashin’ all about.”
“Alright. Thank you, Lancer.”
Across the deck and into the captain’s quarters Will went, making sure to keep his pistols well hidden within his coat. His first mate, Kayla, was awaiting him by the double doors. She had a small smirk on her face as he set his hands on the knobs.
“I wish you the best of luck, dear brother.” She said, giving a little mock-salute. “You’ll need it.”
Will was all too used to her antics. “That bad, huh?”
She nodded. “Like he’s possessed by the devil ‘imself.”
“Good,” the captain smiled, turning the brass knobs. “I like a challenge.”
________________________________________
Nico’s wrists burned horribly from the rope.
He twisted and turned in desperation to find anything so use as a means of escape. There was a single cot and a dresser on the far side of the room, filled with all sorts of knick-knacks, they were two far away. Crammed against the wall on the opposite side were what seemed to be more dressers, desks and cabinets filled with sparkling knick-knacks of a similar kind. Again, too far away. This left him securely tied to a chair in the middle of a bare floor facing an ominous looking set of double doors.
He tried moving his chair, to inch it toward the pile of knick-knacks, but it seemed to be made of an especially heavy wood or metal because it simply wouldn’t budge. It wouldn’t even topple over!
Frustrated, Nico let out another scream through his gag. This cloth was replaced by something less pungent than what was put on him during the kidnapping, but it was still horribly disgusting. Who knew how many mouths this thing had been used on.
Just as he was ready to give his bound wrists another thrashing, the double doors opened and he froze. The pirates who’d bound him said that The Captain was coming. Oh god…
“Nico?”
Holy sh-
“Mmph?!”
Blue eyes, blond hair, sun-kissed skin and a splash of freckles… all fit into one hell of an outfit with a royal-red coat, glinting belts, and a rather flamboyant, black, wide-brimmed hat. What the hell…?
Nico simply could believe his luck- or misfortune, he had yet to find out- as the man approached with an honestly puzzled expression. He tugged down Nico’s gag so he could gape as well as stare in disbelief.
“Nico… what?” Will wondered how Lancer didn’t tell him it was Nico. Of all people who he would soon murder, it had to be this boy. Well… he was the captain, after all. What he says goes.
“Y-you’re a pirate?!” Nico screamed, causing Will to flinch.
“Well, I-“
“You said you were a merchant! You dirty lying-“
“Hey, let me explain!” He raised his hands in surrender. “Would you have believed me if had told you I was one? And if you did, would you still have hung out with me?”
Nico gaped, at a loss for answers. He did have a point. “But…”
“Listen, I found you… well, putting it bluntly, attractive.”
Nico didn’t want to give him any hope, but well… the color rising to his cheeks was involuntary.
“I wanted to befriend you, alright? I wanted to get to be someone in your life. In truth, I was going to find you after we completed what needed to be done, the reason we’re in this kingdom. I was going to ask you to leave the place with me, confess who I really was, but I swear to you, the only lie I’ve ever told you was about my being a merchant. I swear.”
This man was either all too honest and straight-forward, or an extremely good liar. Whichever, Nico found himself wanting to believe Will. He felt like in those two days he was with him, he’d suddenly known every single thing about this man, and admittedly found those things endearing. But now that knowledge was in great doubt.
Will Solace was a pirate. A bloody pirate. They pillaged and plundered and murdered… yet they did they wanted and went wherever they wanted. And Will… Will wasn’t just a pirate, he was a goddamn captain of an entire crew. If Will really did care about him…
Something more to life, huh?
“What… what was ‘needed to be done’?” he asked, his dark eyes scanning the captain for any signs of malice. All he saw was a blink of surprise.
“W-What-?”
“You said you were only in this kingdom to do a job of sorts. What job is it, and what does it have to do with me?”
“N-Nico-“
“Be honest with me, Will.” His locked their gazes, making sure to convey every ounce of conviction, wanting, and maybe even a bit of desperation, in that one look.
“I…” His shoulders slumped. “Well, I have to tell you sometime, don’t I?” He let out a small chuckle. Then straightened back up, now wearing an expression of relief. “The royal family has a considerably high price on their heads, and we want that bounty. You, Nico, are a servant on the inside. You work in close quarters with the royals and know the ins and outs to their private chambers. You hold information.”
“So… you’re going to murder them?”
“Yes.”
“Oh.”
Well, those snot-holes were nothing but stuck-up rulers who hoarded all the money for themselves and left the kingdom starving. They were harsh and rude, especially the eldest princess. Hah, at times, Nico found him close to murdering her himself. There were even talks of a revolution around town, a storming of the palace by the people. Well, killing them swiftly and privately would make that whole ordeal easier.
“You do realize that the place is heavily guarded right? And the guards are pretty good at their job so…”
“Does this mean you’ll help us?” Will was absolutely beaming. Nico almost laughed.
“Does this mean you’ll take me as far away from this kingdom as possible?”
“You can count on that.”
“And I can join your crew?”
“Of course!”
“And you’ll untie me? My wrists are burning.”
“Oh, uh, I-I’ll get to that now.” This time, Nico had to actually laugh. Will was flustered and clearly embarrassed as he pulled out a knife and began to cut through the knots. He was adorable.
“Then you have yourself a done deal.”
Will looked up, a wild grin playing on his lips. “One more thing,” he said. “Promise to have a one-on-one dinner with me sometime?”
“Are you asking me out?”
“Um… yes…?”
Nico rolled his eyes, breaking into a smile of his own. “Finish untying me and I’ll think about it.”
Will laughed. “That’s good enough for me.”
